The 31-year-old TV star, who is expecting his first child with fellow Towie regular Sophie Kasaei, has said he is receiving around-the-clock care to monitor for any seizures, but said the swelling on his brain had worsened. His condition is not connected to the outbreak of bacterial meningitis, which has killed two young people in Kent, with the UK Health Security Agency confirming on Saturday that the number of cases linked to the “unusual” cluster had risen to 34. Speaking from this hospital bed, Mr Brook said: “This is the first time I’ve really been able to speak strong [sic] enough about what’s going on. There’s been a lot of speculations as to why I’m here and what’s going on, and there’s a few comments and people saying …

Harry Brook completes one of England’s finest centuries after McCullum masterstroke

Harry Brook completes one of England’s finest centuries after McCullum masterstroke

Good afternoon and welcome to live coverage of the 2026 T20 World Cup Super Eights Group Two match between England and Pakistan in Pallekele. Kandy must be among England’s favourite homes from home, not just for its beauty – they have won four games on the bounce there this year in bilaterals against the hosts and then again versus Sri Lanka in their first match at this stage on Sunday. At times during that victory, in comments sections, social media, on TMS and on the ICC’s world feed used by Sky, there was something more than disquiet about England’s performance with the bat. Rage at slipshod batting during the Ashes and a general impatience with Brendon McCullum has not been diluted by the switch in formats. If anything it seems to have redoubled. And yet England won comfortably, once again proving Sir Geoffrey Boycott’s old adage about it being foolish to judge a pitch until you have seen both sides batting on it to be as perceptive as ever. England have triumphed in a couple …

Man dies after being pulled from flooded Derbyshire brook following police chase | UK News

A man has died after being pulled from a flooded brook following a police chase. Police had been chasing a stolen caravan in Oakerthorpe, Derbyshire, in the early hours of Saturday. Two men in the vehicle towing the caravan rammed into the police cars before coming to a stop and fleeing on foot. One man was arrested shortly afterwards, while a second was described by police as having “entered the flooded Egginton Brook”. Several hours later the man was recovered from the water and treated by ambulance crews at the scene before being taken to Royal Derby Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said. Because the death happened after police contact, the force has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). Formal identification of the man has not yet taken place, and efforts are ongoing to trace his next of kin, the force added. England cricketer Harry Brook ‘regrets’ saying he was alone during nightclub incident | UK News

England’s white-ball cricket captain Harry Brook has backtracked over his account of an incident with a nightclub bouncer. Brook, 26, was fined and warned over the incident in Wellington, New Zealand, the night before a one-day international in November. He previously said he had been “clocked” by the bouncer. The cricketer, whose England side lost by two wickets the following day, had initially said he was alone. But he has now issued a statement saying he “regrets” those comments and was protecting teammates. It has also been reported by The Telegraph that teammates Jacob Bethell and Josh Tongue were fined for their roles, and are being investigated by the Cricket Regulator. Sam Curran hat-trick for England overshadowed by Harry Brook revelations

Sam Curran hat-trick for England overshadowed by Harry Brook revelations

The revelation also increases scrutiny on previous comments made by England regarding the matter, including those of managing director Rob Key, who said ahead of the Boxing Day Ashes Test, before the Brook news had been revealed, that “no formal action” had been taken against any players in relation to that evening in Wellington, where England players had been filmed out drinking before the game, when in fact all of Bethell, Tongue and Brook had been fined. On the pitch, however, England could not have been happier with their performance in Kandy. They won the toss, restricted their opponents to a below-par total, and then knocked it off with time to spare. In truth, despite his hat-trick, Curran had been the weakest of the bowlers on the night, conceding 38 runs from his two-and-a-half overs, before he struck three times in succession in the penultimate over to claim his third hat-trick in T20 cricket and take only the second hat-trick for the England men’s team in T20 cricket. Chris Jordan, who took one during the …

Harry Brook and Joe Root batter Sri Lanka in rare, morale-boosting series win

Harry Brook and Joe Root batter Sri Lanka in rare, morale-boosting series win

“When Brooky came in,” Root said of his captain. “He went through the gears and showed exactly what he is capable of doing. You saw his full array of shots, his ability and it’s a joy to watch from the other end.” After a difficult recent period for Brook, in which he has spoken about the need to “regain the trust” of his team-mates following his altercation with a nightclub bouncer in Wellington, to score a match-winning century in a series decider is well-timed and fitting for a player of his ability. So too is the series win a feather in the cap for his blossoming captaincy. England had not won an overseas ODI tour since beating Bangladesh in 2023 and across their last 17 ODIs they had won only five. By contrast, Sri Lanka have been close to unbeatable at home in recent years, winning 11 and drawing one of their last 12 series. “I think he’s been excellent in every aspect,” Root said of Brook’s captaincy. “He’s grown throughout the three games and …

England’s Brook slams ‘worst’ Colombo pitch despite victory

England’s Brook slams ‘worst’ Colombo pitch despite victory

COLOMBO, Jan 25 : England captain Harry Brook said the pitch used for Saturday’s second one-day international against Sri Lanka was probably the worst he had ever played on despite their series-levelling victory in Colombo. England used six spinners, who bowled a combined 40.3 overs – the most by the side in an ODI – on a slow, turning track at Khettarama, where Joe Root’s composed 75 secured their five-wicket victory. “The pitch is probably the worst pitch I’ve ever played on,” Brook said after England’s first win in 12 ODIs away from home. “You had to go out there and adapt as quick as possible, and just try to get off strike and get the other batter on strike.” Brook contributed 42 off 75 balls at a strike rate of 56, which is considerably lower than his overall strike rate of 99.83 in this format. Brook also doffed his hat to Root for the way he dominated spin to register his second successive fifty of the series. “He is an awesome player and his ability …

Brook barrage puts England on top but concerns about recklessness remain

Brook barrage puts England on top but concerns about recklessness remain

No coach, particularly McCullum, would want to temper Brook’s flair and aggression. But when he is pulling a short ball and a top edge lands between three fielders, as it did off Mitchell Starc when he was on 45 and well set, it displays an irresponsibility that is reckless from the team’s vice-captain. Two balls from Cameron Green encapsulated the issue. One bouncer into the arm pit was flapped at and edged down to fine leg for a single. The next, another short one, was whipped majestically for six and, going with the wind, landed 20 rows back over the very same fielder. This is why teams go to the short ball against Brook; starting from the Lord’s Ashes Tests of 2023. His habit of hitting from low to high increases the chance of taking a wicket. “I could have played it better at times. It didn’t feel amazing today but on another day it’ll feel a hell of a lot better, so happy that I just got through it,” Brook said. “I’ve just got …
