Cannes Film Festival regular Bruno Dumont (Slack Bay, Flanders) is returning to the Croisette this year with his latest, Red Rocks, screening in the Directors’ Fortnight sidebar. Directors’ Fortnight added the feature, described as a Romeo and Juliet-style romantic drama set on the French Riviera, as a late edition on Thursday. Dumont will also give a masterclass in the section, where he premiered his feature debut, The Life of Jesus in 1997. Over the years, the French director has screened several works in the section, which runs parallel to Cannes’ main festival. He screened his four-part television miniseries Li’l Quinquin in Directors’ Fortnight in 2014 and the musical drama Jeannette, the Childhood of Joan of Arc there in 2017. Dumont has also graced the main Competition multiple times, winning the Grand Jury Prize for both his 2006 psychological war drama Flanders and his 1999 crime mystery Humanity. His recent Palme d’Or contenders include the comedies Slack Bay (2016) and France (2021). Sam Altman’s eyeball-scanning startup, Tools for Humanity, announced last week that a new product called Concert Kit—designed to give verified humans a way to purchase concert tickets—would first roll out on Bruno Mars’ world tour of his latest studio album, The Romantic. However, Bruno Mars Management and Live Nation, the producer for the Romantic Tour, told WIRED in a joint statement on Tuesday that the partnership “does not exist,” and that Tools for Humanity never even approached them about working together. The confusion stemmed from a Tools for Humanity event April 17 in San Francisco, where chief product officer Tiago Sada said the company would be joining the Romantic Tour to not just provide access to tickets but also “VIP experiences for verified humans.” The statement was reiterated in a blog post published by the company, which read: “Concert Kit launches today and will roll out during the Bruno Mars World Tour featuring DJ Pee .Wee (aka Anderson .Paak), where verified humans will have exclusive access to VIP suite experiences at select stops.” A video …

After a decade-long wait, Bruno Mars released his highly anticipated fourth solo studio album, “The Romantic,” on Friday . The nine-track project kicks off with one of the most saccharine forms of affection known to man: a traditional Mexican serenade. The day before the album debuted, Mars released his music video for “Risk it All,” a bolero imbued with wailing mariachi trumpets and violins. Directed by Mars and Fresno’s Daniel Ramos, the video notably guest-stars the Los Angeles band Mariachi Los Criollos de Guadalajara, who can be seen playing outside the Guardian Angel Catholic Church in East Hollywood. The album tells the story of a lovelorn Latino on a quest for love, only to be rejected. Despite this long break from solo projects, the multi-instrumentalist and singer has remained a constant presence on radio and streaming platforms, particularly thanks to two songs: “Die With a Smile” with pop superstar Lady Gaga, and “APT.” performed with South Korean singer Rosé. Both tracks broke streaming records. The first, a pop-rock ballad, became, in August 2024, the fastest song to reach one billion streams on Spotify, while the second, with its rapped chorus, was, the following year, the most-streamed song in the world on Apple Music.
