After testing this HP laptop, I get why its ‘boring’ design is adored by business users

pros and cons Pros Powerful hardware Sturdy build Good keyboard and trackpad Cons Middling battery Expensive Thick and heavy Runs hot more buying choices Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. HP’s ZBook series aims to combine workstation-level performance with business features, and the 14-inch ZBook G1i epitomizes the form factor. It’s hefty, pricey, and loaded with high-end hardware designed to blaze through professional workflows in a non-descript, “all-business” profile.   Also: I found the apps slowing down my PC – how to kill the biggest memory hogs I used the ZBook 8 G1i as my main driver for a week and came to appreciate its raw horsepower, but with the influx of thin-and-light laptops on the market, one can’t help but compare it to laptops that are almost half as light, with marathon batteries to boot (and comparable performance).  Still, the ZBook 8 G1i doubles down on its predictably corporate design by delivering exactly what you’d expect from a laptop like this: power, durability, and reliability, with a handful of configurations, including niche …

At various locations near the Metropolitan Museum in New York City, posters have popped up with the words: “Bezos Met Gala: Brought to you by the firm that powers ICE” and “Boycott the Bezos Met Gala.” In November, the Met announced that this year’s biggest night in fashion would be “made possible” by the world’s third-richest man and his wife, Lauren Sánchez Bezos, who were named as lead sponsors, alongside secondary donors, Condé Nast and Saint Laurent. The role is understood to give the couple influence over everything from invites to the overall presentation of the event. The sponsorship by the tech …

You Can Put Beef Tallow and Salmon Sperm on Your Face. but Should You?

You Can Put Beef Tallow and Salmon Sperm on Your Face. but Should You?

Bryan Vander Dussen spent years as a dairy farmer before shifting to selling farm-raised beef. In the past year, he and his wife have been making another transition: Cooking up recipes in their kitchen that turn organ fat from his animals into tallow balm that buyers are eager to slather on their skin. One tricky bit: Coming up with formulas that don’t smell like pot roast. “You see it everywhere, so we were like, ‘Why don’t we do this?’” he said. “Some of the feedback is, ‘We don’t want to smell like beef,’ so we add things like lavender and wild orange to kind of counter that potential beef smell.” From moisturizers made with beef tallow to salmon sperm facials, consumers have become more interested in animal-based skin care products in recent years. Promoted as natural alternatives to synthetics, they’re gaining popularity across social media and high-end spas as well as at farmers’ markets and in home kitchens. “There’s been a movement in the last couple of years to embrace animal-based foods,” said Norah MacKendrick, …

Record US Drought Sparks Worries About Fires, Water Supply and Food Prices

Record US Drought Sparks Worries About Fires, Water Supply and Food Prices

Drought in the contiguous United States has reached record levels for this time of year, weather data shows. Meteorologists said it’s a bad sign for the upcoming wildfire season, food prices and western water issues. More than 61% of the Lower 48 states is in moderate to exceptional drought — including 97% of the Southeast and two-thirds of the West — according to the U.S. Drought Monitor. It’s the highest levels for this time of year since the drought monitor began in 2000. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s comprehensive Palmer Drought Severity Index not only hit its highest level for March since records started in 1895, but last month was the third-driest month recorded regardless of time of year. It trailed only the famed Dust Bowl months of July and August 1934. Because of record heat, much of the West has had exceptionally low levels of snow in the first few months of the year, which is usually how the region stores water for the summer. A different drought — connected to the jet …

Pope Leo XIV Challenges Angola’s Leaders While Delivering a Message of Encouragement for Its People

Pope Leo XIV Challenges Angola’s Leaders While Delivering a Message of Encouragement for Its People

LUANDA, Angola (AP) — Pope Leo XIV challenged Angola’s leaders to break the “cycle of interests” that have plundered and exploited Africa for centuries as he arrived in the southern African country on Saturday with a message of encouragement for its long-suffering people. Leo, history’s first U.S.-born pope, said that it was “not in my interest at all” to debate Trump, but that he would continue preaching the Gospel message of peace, justice and brotherhood in Africa. U.S. Vice President JD Vance later wrote on social media that “I am grateful to Pope Leo for saying this.” Vance, a Catholic convert, suggested earlier in the week that Leo “be careful” when speaking about theology. In Angola, Leo met with President Joao Lourenco and delivered his first speech to Angolan government authorities, in which he referred repeatedly to Angola’s tortured history of colonial plunder and civil war. “I desire to meet you in the spirit born of peace and to affirm that your people possess treasures that cannot be bought or stolen,” he said. “There dwells …

Iran Fires on Ships in Strait of Hormuz as Tehran Imposes Restrictions Again

Iran Fires on Ships in Strait of Hormuz as Tehran Imposes Restrictions Again

Confusion over the critical chokepoint threatened to deepen the energy crisis roiling the global economy and push the two countries toward renewed conflict, even as mediators expressed confidence a new deal was within reach. Iran’s joint military command said on Saturday that “control of the Strait of Hormuz has returned to its previous state … under strict management and control of the armed forces.” Two gunboats from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard opened fire on a tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz, the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations center said. It reported the tanker and crew as safe, without identifying the vessel or its destination. TankerTrackers.com reported vessels were forced to turn around in the strait, including an Indian-flagged supertanker, after they were fired on by Iran. Saturday’s developments came after U.S. President Donald Trump said the blockade “will remain in full force” until Tehran reaches a deal with the U.S. that includes its nuclear program. Tehran had reopened the strait Friday to commercial vessels. Despite the escalation, Pakistani officials say the United States and …

Major UK airport to close down with no more flights – in business since 1936 | UK | News

Coventry Airport is preparing to close its doors later this year, with the UK Civil Aviation Authority confirming it will cease operations from June 2026. Many locals have made their feelings known about the closure, reflecting on the airport’s storied past and the potential impact on nearby businesses and the broader community. Firms operating at the airport have been told they must vacate the site by May 2026. A CAA spokesperson said: “Coventry Aerodrome has given formal notice to us of its plan to close the airport permanently with effect from 11 June 2026.” The site, originally founded in 1936 as Baginton Aerodrome, served as RAF Baginton, a fighter airfield during the Second World War. Over the decades, it has handled freight, light aircraft, and occasional commercial flights. Coventry Airport also played host to a Papal visit in 1982, when Pope John Paul II toured the UK and drew an estimated 350,000 people to the site. One resident remarked to Coventry Live: “All the people who are moaning about the closure are probably the same …

UPS Plane Aborts Landing in Louisville After Small Plane Crosses Its Runway in Latest Close Call

UPS Plane Aborts Landing in Louisville After Small Plane Crosses Its Runway in Latest Close Call

A UPS cargo plane had to abort its landing in Louisville earlier this week when a small plane crossed the runway just as it approached. The air traffic controller yelled “Skylab 25, stop!” at the small plane before quickly ordering the UPS plane to pull up and perform a maneuver called a go-around to avert another tragedy at Louisville’s Muhammad Ali International Airport, which is a major hub for UPS. The audio was posted online by www.LiveATC.net. Just last November, a UPS plane crashed after an engine fell off as it was rolling down the runway to take off. The National Transportation Safety Board announced Thursday that it plans to hold two days of investigative hearings starting May 19 to learn more about why the crash that killed 14 people happened. Fortunately, no one was hurt in this latest incident, which happened about 12:10 a.m. Tuesday. Right after the cargo plane safely pulled up, the controller asked “Skylab 25, what are you doing?” The pilot responded “Skylab 25, yeah, sorry about that.” The Federal Aviation …
