Donald Trump threatens UK again and warns ‘they better be careful’

The UK was back on Donald Trump’s mind as he threatened ‘a big tariff’ in retaliation to a digital services tax introduced by Westminster six years ago. The tax, which has been enforced since 2020, imposes a two per cent levy on the revenues of several major US tech companies – including social media firms. But amid strains in relations between the two countries during the Middle East war, Mr Trump raised the issue with journalists at the Oval Office on Thursday (April 23). He told reporters: “We’ve been looking at it and we can meet that very easily by just putting a big tariff on the UK, so they better be careful. If they don’t drop the tax, we’ll probably put a big tariff on the UK.” The tax targets companies whose worldwide revenues from digital activities exceed £500 million, with more than £25 million of the revenue from UK users. According to a 2025 Treasury review, the levy raised more than £800 million in 2024–25, up from £678 million in 2023–24. Click here …

Osborne House was once the holiday retreat of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, but now one of its most opulent features keeps those at Sandringham House busy with its difficult upkeep, as it has been relocated.  According to the Sandringham estate’s official website, three beautiful chandeliers hang in the ballroom, which once resided at Osbourne House. They were then moved to Buckingham Palace before Queen Mary noticed them and had them brought to Sandringham.   © InstagramThe ballroom at Sandringham looks out over the parkland “They are each made of over a thousand pieces of Venetian crystal, and on the ground stand at seven feet high. The spokesman, Esmail Baghaei, also defended Iran’s attacks on Gulf states, telling CNBC’s Dan Murphy that targeting “military bases and assets” belonging to the United States in the region is “legitimate under international law.” The price of crude oil has sharply spiked past $100 a barrel as the Strait of Hormuz has been effectively closed. “As long as the situation is insecure, I think all tankers, all maritime navigation, must be very careful,” said Baghaei, who is also head of the Center for Public Diplomacy. He said that Iran will fight against the U.S. and Israel “as long as it takes,” and that his nation is preparing for …

Draft gender guidance urges ‘very careful approach’

More from this theme Recent articles Schools should take a “very careful approach in relation to social transition”, new draft government gender guidance states, with “particular caution” urged in primary settings. The Department for Education is consulting on draft guidance on supporting children who are questioning their gender, which if signed off would form part of the statutory keeping children safe in education (KCSIE) guidance. The guidance states that parents should be involved in the “vast majority” of cases in which a child questions their gender. It comes after the landmark Cass Review of gender care services for under-18s, which found “remarkably weak” evidence around medical interventions in gender care, with a lack of research available. Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said the proposed guidance should “give teachers the clarity they need to ensure the safeguarding and wellbeing of gender questioning children and young people”. ‘Very careful’ approach The guidance states schools should take a “very careful approach in relation to social transition”. “The Cass Review acknowledged that there is a lack of good evidence on the long-term impact of …

Chicks this young are fed a nutritious oily mix of partially digested squid and fish eggs. Every year, Laysan albatross return to this wildlife refuge on the northeastern edge of the Hawaiian Archipelago and reunite with their mates.
