Mom who watched a newborn baby drown in the toilet had pictures of Casey Anthony on her phone, cops say

A Florida college student accused of watching her newborn daughter drown in a toilet allegedly had photos of Casey Anthony, who was acquitted of first-degree murder in the disappearance of her infant child, on her phone, police say. Anne Mae Demegillo, a 20-year-old from Palm Coast whose newborn died March 5, was arrested the next day for aggravated manslaughter and initially released on $250,000 bond. After further investigation, a grand jury on Monday indicted her on charges of first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse and concealing the death. Demegillo turned herself in at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility and is now in custody without bond pending a court hearing, Flagler County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday. During the investigation, detectives say that Demegillo had used her phone to search for terms such as “newborn premature babies,” “Palm Coast OBGYN” and “foods to decrease fertility.” Investigators also discovered that her phone held images of Anthony, who was acquitted of murdering her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, in a high-profile trial that captivated the country. She was, however, convicted …

Casey Bloys on HBO’s next chapter: Harry Potter, The Pitt and big new bets

The man shaping HBO’s future is thinking less about algorithms and more about instinct. As Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content, looks ahead to the UK launch of HBO Max on Thursday 26 March, his guiding principle remains strikingly simple: make television people will pay for – and make it unlike anything else. “One of the things about working at HBO for as long as I have… is that, before streaming, we were unique in that we were television people were asked to pay for,” he says. “So in development, we would naturally ask ourselves: does this feel like television worth paying for?” It’s a deceptively powerful framework – one that has shaped everything from Game of Thrones to Euphoria – and continues to underpin HBO’s strategy as it expands its direct-to-consumer offering in the UK. Bloys is clear that there is no single answer to that question. “Does it feel like a spectacle? Does it feel cinematic? Does it feel like it’s pushing boundaries in some way? Does it feel …

Casey Wasserman’s name dropped from agency following Ghislaine Maxwell scandal

Casey Wasserman’s name dropped from agency following Ghislaine Maxwell scandal

Casey Wasserman’s name has been scrubbed from the agency he founded decades ago, replaced with an amorphous moniker: “The Team.” Monday’s move comes amid the lingering controversy over the sports mogul’s decades-old association with Ghislaine Maxwell, accomplice of the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Following revelations of Wasserman’s salacious 2003 emails with Maxwell, several musicians and athletes — led by pop artist Chappell Roan and soccer star Abby Wambach — said that, to stay true to their values, they would leave the agency then known as Wasserman. Fears of a broad flight of artists and agents prompted Wasserman to announce that he was selling his talent representation and sports marketing firm. Talks with prospective buyers have been ongoing, according to a person close to the agency but not authorized to speak publicly. For now, the agency is still owned by Wasserman and private equity firm Providence Equity Partners. Wasserman continues to lead LA28, the nonprofit group that will be staging the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles in two years. The LA28 board’s executive committee unanimously …

The hearing was a long time coming for Means — a wellness influencer, entrepreneur and author — who had to delay the confirmation hearing in late October because she was pregnant and went into labor. During her testimony, Means praised Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s leadership and echoed many of the talking points of his “Make America Healthy Again” agenda, while sidestepping pointed questions about the administration’s controversial actions on vaccines and other issues. In a back and forth between Means and Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy, chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, she said that she believes “vaccines save lives,” but stopped short of encouraging mothers to have their …

Karen Bass Says Casey Wasserman Should ‘Step Dow’ From LA28

Karen Bass Says Casey Wasserman Should ‘Step Dow’ From LA28

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass is calling on Casey Wasserman to step down as chairperson of LA28 after some emails of his surfaced in the Department of Justice’s Jeffrey Epstein document release. During an interview on CNN Monday, the mayor said, “I cannot fire him, but I have an opinion. And my opinion is that he should step down. That’s not the opinion of the board.” Last week, Wasserman was publicly backed by the Los Angeles Olympics Committee board after they hired an outside law firm to review his interactions with Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted sex trafficker connected to Epstein. Their flirtatious correspondence took place in 2003, years before Epstein’s arrest in Palm Beach. “LA28 takes allegations of misconduct seriously, and our Board is committed to thoroughly reviewing any concerns related to the organization’s leadership,” the executive committee wrote. “Mr. Wasserman fully cooperated with the review. We found Mr. Wasserman’s relationship with Epstein and Maxwell did not go beyond what has already been publicly documented.” Bass made it clear in today’s interview that she disagreed …

Casey Wasserman is putting his agency up for sale, the mogul announced in a memo to staff Friday night, following a week of intense scrutiny and criticism from his roster after suggestive emails he’d sent to Ghislaine Maxwell had surfaced in the Epstein Files. In the memo, obtained by The Hollywood Reporter, Wasserman said that he had “become a distraction” from his company’s operations, confirming he’d sell the agency, though he didn’t specify to whom. Wasserman said that Mike Watts would oversee day-to-day operations of the business during the sales process “while I devote my full attention to delivering Los Angeles an Olympic Games in 2028 that is worthy of this outstanding city.” “First and foremost, I want to apologize to you,” Wasserman wrote in the memo. “I’m deeply sorry that my past personal mistakes have caused you so much discomfort. It’s not fair to you, and it’s not fair to the clients and partners we represent so vigorously and care so deeply about.” The decision follows significant pressure from the music department in particular, …

The Grammy-winning star shared a statement on social media announcing her departure from Wasserman, led by Casey Wasserman, saying she holds her teams “to the highest standards” and has “a duty to protect them” as well. “No artist, agent or employee should ever be expected to defend or overlook actions that conflict so deeply with our own moral values,” she added.
