Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Curry Barker to Direct

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: Curry Barker to Direct

Curry Barker is gassing up his chainsaw. Though the 25-year-old filmmaker’s much talked-about film Obsession is not yet in theaters, A24 is handing him the feature keys to storied horror property The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Barker is in talks to write and direct his own take on Texas Chainsaw, that will stand separate from an A24 TV series from Glen Powell, Dan Cohen and JT Mollner. Barker has been on a rise rarely seen these days in Hollywood. After coming up in the world of YouTube sketch comedy, he shot an $800 horror movie and put it on YouTube for free, where it amassed more than 2 million views and caught Hollywood attention. He then became the toast of the Toronto Film Festival last fall, when his under $1 million budgeted movie Obsession became the biggest sale of the fest, going to Focus Features for around $15 million, a sum which makes it won of the biggest indie sales ever in terms of budget to purchase price ratio. The feature, which Barker wrote, directed and …

Dries Van Noten at Chainsaw, the Venezuelan coffee shop in Melrose Hill

This story is part of Image’s March Outside issue, a celebration of the Los Angeles outdoors and the many lives to be lived under its unencumbered sky. The ritual of meeting up and hanging out at a coffee shop in L.A. is a showcase of style filled with a subtle site-specific tension. Don’t you see it? Comfort battles formality fighting to break free. Hiding out chafes against being perceived. In the end, we make ourselves at home at all costs — and pull a look while doing it. It’s the morning after a night out. Two friends meet up at Chainsaw in Melrose Hill, the cafe with the flan lattes, crispy arepas and sorbet-colored wall everybody and their mom has been talking about. Miraculously, the line of people that usually snakes down Melrose yearning for a slice of chef Karla Subero Pittol’s passion lime fruit icebox pie is nonexistent today. Thank God, because the party was sick last night — the DJ mixed Nelly Furtado’s “Promiscuous” into Peaches’ “F— the Pain Away” and the walls …

A man has been fatally shot by police after a woman was stabbed, in a spree that allegedly saw him break into multiple homes and hijack a car. The man is said to have forced his way into the woman’s home armed with a chainsaw and knife on Friday morning, 6 February. En route to the scene, officers were informed that a woman had been stabbed and a man had absconded from the property in a white four-wheel drive. Upon arrival, officers found a 28 year old woman with severe injuries. She received treatment from NSW Ambulance paramedics before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious but stable condition. Police spotted the four-wheel drive shortly afterwards on nearby Stewart Parade and initiated a chase. During the pursuit, the vehicle drove through a sports ground before reportedly crashing on Forster Bridge. Police rushed to the bridge and located the 4WD, but were informed the man had hijacked another vehicle which subsequently rammed a police vehicle. An officer sustained minor injuries. Netflix Reveals Anime Partnership With ‘Chainsaw Man’ Studio Mappa

The stunning box office success of Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reza Arc, the anime feature about a man who co-exists with the demonic spirit of a chainsaw, caught the attention of the whole industry last fall — including Netflix. The film earned $43 million in North America and $160 million worldwide, further cementing even the most offbeat anime as a major mainstream commercial genre. And lo and behold, last week Netflix quietly revealed a new strategic alliance with Mappa, the Tokyo-based anime studio behind the feature, as well as many of global anime fans’ other favorite titles. On Tuesday, Netflix’s Kaata Sakamoto, head of content for the streamer in Japan, shared a few comments on the shape the partnership will take during a content presentation in Tokyo. “Building on the strong relationships we’ve cultivated with Japan’s leading creators and studios, we are evolving these partnerships into deeper, more collaborative creative ventures,” Sakamoto said. “Our recently announced partnership with Mappa reflects this direction. Multiple projects are already underway, spanning story development through merchandise, as we …
