IONNA, the EV charging network created by a coalition of large automakers, will install fast chargers at over 350 sites across America in partnership with convenience store chain Circle K. IONNA was founded in 2024 as a partnership between several large automakers to advance fast-charging in North America. At first, it was BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis, though later Toyota joined the fray. The partnership intends to install fast charging at locations they call “rechargeries” across America, focusing on extra-fast 400kW chargers, to feed today’s quickest-charging vehicles and future-proof charging for faster-charging vehicles to come in the future. Ford is offering free EV chargers through its Power Promise program and discounting models by up to $9,000 this month. Ford extends free EV charger deal with new discounts First launched in October 2024, Ford’s “Power Promise” was designed to make it even easier for drivers to go electric. The program includes a free Level 2 home EV charger, plus Ford will cover the cost of standard installation. If you already have a home charger, you can opt for a $2,000 in bonus cash. It also offered EV buyers 24/7 live support and proactive roadside assistance for on-demand help. Although the program was set to end on March 31, Ford extended the offer until July 6, 2026. The Vienna, Virginia-based energy tech company just launched its Zero Cost Swap Program, which replaces old, unsupported, or broken EV chargers with new, networked equipment – with no upfront cost for the site host. Public charger reliability is still one of the biggest complaints among EV drivers. A lot of those issues trace back to early-generation chargers that are now reaching end of life, along with companies exiting the market and leaving equipment behind. On top of that, the buds are crazy comfortable, sound great, have excellent noise canceling, and have most of the aforementioned Apple-exclusive features, like hands-free Siri (no Adaptive Audio, however, sad). The buildout centers on fast charging at retail locations, with the majority of sites initially hosted at Menards home improvement stores. The idea is to put fast chargers where drivers already go. Each location will feature four 200kW C6 Smart DC fast chargers with two charging ports each. Mayor Zohran Mamdani, NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) Commissioner Mike Flynn, and the New York Power Authority (NYPA) have opened a new public EV fast-charging station at a municipal lot in downtown Flushing, Queens (135-23 39th Avenue). It’s the first of 10 sites planned over the next year as part of a partnership between NYC DOT and NYPA. The Flushing site has eight 360 kW fast chargers that can take an EV to 80% in around 10–15 minutes. And drivers won’t be charged extra for parking while they plug in. The city picked this location because it has limited access to affordable charging and a high number of residents who are Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) drivers – more than a third live in Queens. DC fast charger maker Kempower, electric long-haul truck maker Windrose, and EV Realty say they’ve completed a successful Megawatt Charging System (MCS) session at EV Realty’s San Bernardino charging hub. It’s the first time a Kempower Mega Satellite MCS has been used for charging in North America. That matters because MCS is what heavy-duty electric trucks have been waiting for.
