OpenAI Plans to Combine Its AI Tools in a Desktop ‘Superapp’

OpenAI Plans to Combine Its AI Tools in a Desktop ‘Superapp’

OpenAI is working toward creating a desktop “superapp” that will consist of its three tools: ChatGPT, the coding platform Codex and the Atlas browser, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal. OpenAI executives said the goal behind this new desktop app is to improve the user experience. The move comes after the Journal reported earlier this week that OpenAI CEO of applications Fidji Simo told employees the company wanted to focus on its core business instead of side projects. In a Thursday memo to staff reported by the Journal, Simo, who leads development of the new app, said the company was spreading its “efforts across too many apps and stacks, and that we need to simplify our efforts.” ChatGPT is the signature chatbot from OpenAI, Codex is a coding platform designed for software developers, and Atlas is the AI-first browser from the company, which acts like a traditional internet browser, but with ChatGPT as an assistant. (Disclosure: Ziff Davis, parent company of CNET, in 2025 filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, alleging it infringed Ziff Davis copyrights in …

HBO Max and Paramount+ to Combine Into One Streaming Platform, Paramount Says HBO Brand Will ‘Operate With Independence’

Welcome to the latest digest edition of the Stack! It’s a bit heavy on DC/Marvel news this week, but that’s just how these things shake out sometimes. News From DC and Marvel Beloved artist and colorist Tatjana Wood, best known for her work at DC Comics, passed away at the very respectable age of 99. Warner Bros is getting a mite cranky about Chinese company ByteDance yoinking its iconic superhero characters so that any schmo with a social media account can post IP-infringing videos of Superman, Batman, et. al. Marvel has changed how they credit colorists, moving over to the term “color artist” to better reflect the vast amount of work these folks do in creating the final look of the comics we all love. DC’s revived Vertigo imprint is selling like gangbusters. The Lanterns teaser trailer dropped. The new Wolverine game for PlayStation will be available in September of this year. The Smithsonian has acquired copies of two of the most famous comics ever printed: Action Comics #1 and Captain America Comics #1. Sony …

It Is No Easy Task to Combine Paramount+ and HBO Max

It Is No Easy Task to Combine Paramount+ and HBO Max

David Ellison has stated his intention to “put … together” Paramount+ and HBO Max when his giant acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery is complete. But which major streamer will absorb the other? And how would that work anyway? In terms of its reach, HBO Max is bigger — then again, so is Warner Bros. Discovery as a company, but that isn’t stopping Paramount Skydance from being the buyer. It’s good to be a billionaire. Paramount+ actually has the larger library of the two and the important incumbent advantage. The rebuilt HBO Max (“Max” was a nightmare on Roku devices), however, boasts the newer tech stack. Perhaps there’s a third option: neither of the above. When asked by The Hollywood Reporter, Dan Rayburn, a streaming media expert, consultant and chairman of the Streaming Summit at the NAB Show, punted on the main question. But as fourth-down decision analytics inform, sometimes punting is the right play. This idea of Paramount+/HBO Max integration is frankly “too new” to “contemplate how you can merge two streaming services of that …
