China condemns US Hormuz blockade as oil flows Disrupted

In 2025 China imported 5.4 million barrels of crude oil through the Strait of Hormuz every day, making it one of the waterway’s largest stakeholders. As the economic effects of the US blockade of the strait reach China’s shores, Beijing has condemned the move as “dangerous and irresponsible”. Meanwhile, Donald Trump claimed on Wednesday that he is working with Beijing, and that China welcomed his efforts to reopen the waterway. Source link

Get the latest entertainment news, reviews and star-studded interviews with our Independent Culture email Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter Get the latest entertainment news with our free Culture newsletter The View hosts slammed Donald Trump’s outrageous AI-generated image of himself as Jesus, labeling it “blasphemous.” Over the weekend, amid his feud with Pope Leo XIV, the president shared a doctored image of himself dressed as Jesus, in white robes and a red sash, putting his hand to the forehead of a sick man. He appears to have since deleted the post. During Monday’s segment of the ABC talk show, the hosts displayed the picture on the screen behind them as they addressed Trump’s recent Truth Social rant, in which he called the Pope “WEAK on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy.” “I think our founding fathers did a lot of things right, and the 25th Amendment is there for a reason,” began Sunny Hostin, a devout Catholic. Ratified in 1967 following JFK’s assassination, the amendment gives power to the executive …

Vance Stumps for Orbán, Condemns Election Interference

Vance Stumps for Orbán, Condemns Election Interference

U.S. presidential campaigns usually get started at the Iowa State Fair or some other exalted arena of Americana. J. D. Vance chose Budapest. The vice president visited Hungary’s capital today to align himself in the most visible way possible with the prime minister, Viktor Orbán, who is fighting to hold on to power in parliamentary elections scheduled for Sunday. The U.S. government’s support for Orbán had already been clear. Donald Trump had issued a “Complete and Total Endorsement” on social media. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the most credible threat to Vance’s claim on the Republican presidential nomination in 2028, had traveled to Budapest in February and declared, “Your success is our success.” Vance, not to be outdone, didn’t cloak his endorsement in diplomatic rituals. “I’m here to help him in this campaign cycle,” the vice president said at Orbán’s side. For the prime minister, it was almost too good to be true. He raised his hand to his face as if to stop himself from blushing. Hungary is of relatively little material value to …

Pope Leo condemns ‘violence of war’ in first Easter Mass amid Iran conflict

Pope Leo condemns ‘violence of war’ in first Easter Mass amid Iran conflict

Pope Leo XIV celebrated his first Easter Mass as pontiff with a call Sunday to exercise hope against “the violence of war that kills and destroys,’’ saying “we need this song of hope today” as conflicts spread around the world. With the US-Israeli war on Iran in its second month and Russia’s ongoing campaign in Ukraine, Leo has repeatedly called for a halt in hostilities. In his Easter homily, the pope singled out those who wage war, abuse the weak and prioritize profits. Leo, the first US-born pope, addressed the faithful from an open-air altar in St. Peter’s Square flanked with white roses, while the steps leading down to the piazza where the faithful gathered were filled with spring perennials, symbolically resonating with the pope’s message of hope. UN Condemns Trumps Iran Threats As War Crimes

UN Condemns Trumps Iran Threats As War Crimes

A senior United Nations officials has warned Donald Trump that targeting key civilian infrastructure in Iran would be “war crimes”. The US president said bridges and power plants could be destroyed unless the regime in Tehran agrees a peace deal to end the conflict. His comments, in a post on Truth Social, came nearly five weeks after the war began with a wave of Israeli and US strikes. Trump said: “Our Military, the greatest and most powerful (by far!) anywhere in the World, hasn’t even started destroying what’s left in Iran. Bridges next, then Electric Power Plants! New Regime leadership knows what has to be done, and has to be done, FAST!” But speaking on Radio 4′s Today programme, Tom Fletcher, the UN’s under-secretary general for humanitarian affairs, said that would be a clear violation of international law. He said: “This is infuriating. We’re dealing with the intended and unintended consequences of this reckless conflict, and I think what everyone is observing now is that war is not a television game show. “Peacemaking is not …

Lebanon condemns Israel’s ‘clear intention’ to impose new occupation of its territory

Lebanon condemns Israel’s ‘clear intention’ to impose new occupation of its territory

Lebanon denounced what it called Israel’s plans for “a new occupation of Lebanese territory” on Tuesday, after Israel said it would establish a “security zone” in the country. Defence Minister Major General Michel Menassa said the remarks by his counterpart Israel Katz were “no longer mere threats”, but reflected “a clear intention to impose a new occupation of Lebanese territory, forcibly displace hundreds of thousands of citizens, and systematically destroy villages and towns in the south”. Katz also said Israel would have “security control” up to the Litani river, an idea which Menassa denounced as “a deepening of the aggression against Lebanese land and national sovereignty”. Tehran-backed Hezbollah drew Lebanon into the war by launching attacks on Israel to avenge the killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Israel has responded with broad strikes across Lebanon and a ground offensive. Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney denounced Israel’s deployment of troops against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon as an “illegal invasion” that violates its “integrity and sovereignty”. Fresh Israeli strikes hit the country’s south and near Beirut on Tuesday, the state-run National News …

Japan rape accuser condemns prosecution’s failure to protect victims

TOKYO: A Japanese prosecutor who publicly accused her boss of rape condemned her office on Tuesday (Mar 31) for failing to protect victims, after it rejected her request for an independent probe into harassment within the organisation. Very few women in Japan speak out about sexual assault but Hikari (not her real name) came forward in 2024 to accuse Osaka’s then top prosecutor of raping her six years earlier. Kentaro Kitagawa, head of the Osaka District Public Prosecutor’s Office, was arrested and admitted the assault but later withdrew his statement, saying the sex was consensual. Hikari has made a request to the justice ministry and the prosecutors’ office that a third-party panel be set up to investigate cases involving others in the legal profession, and to implement measures to prevent harassment. Hikari has previously said she was “certain that there are other instances of harassment and additional offences” besides those involving her. But they said they would “refrain from responding” as Hikari also filed a suit against the state last month, seeking compensation. “Whenever a …

China Condemns US Starting ‘Vicious Cycle’ Of ‘Chaos’ In Attacking Iran

Chinese Special Envoy to the Middle East Zhai Jun has said at a briefing after his shuttle-diplomacy trip that included recent stops in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait that the US-Israeli operation against Iran must immediately cease or else a “vicious cycle” toward destabilizing the region and disrupt global trade would persist. “Should hostilities continue to escalate and the situation deteriorate further, the entire region will be plunged into chaos. The use of force will only lead to a vicious cycle… the war should not have begun in the first place,” Zhai declared. via AFP Washington’s latest war of choice in the Middle East has been focus of growing condemnation from Beijing, with Zhai having added: “The one who tied the bell must be the one to untie it.” Or this is another way of saying whatever the US broke it must quickly fix. Separately, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian reiterated at the start of this week that continued military action risks deepening instability, and reminded Washington that its past wars in the …
