French container ship attacked in Strait of Hormuz – POLITICO

French container ship attacked in Strait of Hormuz – POLITICO

The vessel switched off its tracking signal before entering the strait, leaving the exact location of the strike unclear. The incident follows Trump’s announcement that the U.S. would guide ships safely through Hormuz under “Project Freedom,” a plan to escort vessels out of the critical waterway. On Tuesday night, however, he said the U.S. would pause support for ships transiting the strait “for a short time,” citing “great progress” in negotiations with Iran. French government spokesperson Maud Bregeon said: “The strikes that targeted a CMA CGM vessel clearly show that the situation remains dangerous. The ship was not flying the French flag. As things stand, France was therefore in no way targeted. Both the Iranians and the Americans must understand that it is in the common interest for traffic to resume freely.” The attack comes amid a string of incidents flagged by the U.K. Maritime Trade Operations over the past week. On Tuesday, a cargo vessel was hit by an unknown projectile in the strait. A day earlier, a vessel was reported on fire near …

Container Ship Sinks In Hormuz After Iranian Strike Last Month; UBS Gives Latest Strait Update

The Egyptian-owned, Maltese-flagged container ship Safeen Prestige (IMO: 9593517), which was damaged in the first week of the U.S.-Iran conflict following an Iranian strike, has reportedly sunk in the Strait of Hormuz. According to Bloomberg, Pakistan’s hydrographic service said the container ship sank last week, leaving only an oil slick on the surface of the water in the Hormuz chokepoint. The IRGC torched the SAFEEN PRESTIGE in the Strait of Hormuz and continues to reignite the fire. Now they’re illegally closing the straitThis is pure maritime terrorism, not politics. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard is a global terrorist organization and must be treated as such. pic.twitter.com/u22UNaYSc5 — سيف الدرعي| Saif alderei (@saif_aldareei) March 27, 2026 Satellite imagery from the EU’s Copernicus Browser appears to confirm this, showing the container ship on fire in late March and then disappearing from imagery by last Thursday. The Safeen Prestige is owned by Transmar International Shipping of Egypt and managed by GFS Ship Management of Dubai, according to the maritime blog TradeWinds. It is also listed as a Maltese-flagged container ship on …

I canceled four subscriptions after setting up this one Docker container on a mini PC

I canceled four subscriptions after setting up this one Docker container on a mini PC

There’s a very specific kind of financial delusion that comes with modern software. “It’s just $2.99 a month.” You say it casually, repeatedly, and about five different apps. Cloud storage, password manager, notes, and something for documents you swear you’ll organize someday. Maybe a photo backup service running in the background. None of it feels expensive. Until you zoom out and realize you’re essentially paying a monthly subscription … to access your own digital life. I promise, I wasn’t trying to fix that. I wasn’t auditing my spending or going full “self-host everything” mode. I just had a small PC sitting there, underused, and judging me loudly. And I had that one dangerous thought that always leads somewhere: this could probably run something useful. So I fired up Docker. Not as a lifestyle change or as a long-term plan. Just to see what would happen. This was supposed to be one simple container It turned into a full stack Screenshot: Roine Bertelson/MUO The original plan was refreshingly simple: install one container, learn something, shut it …

Alpines – from succulent sempervivums to pretty saxifrages – come into their own in spring and early summer, clothing pots in interesting flowers and foliage and best of all, most are cold hardy, coming from cool, mountainous regions. The peak time for alpines is after the first spring bulbs start coming up, until mid-May. But where do you start? Create a good match Whether you are using an alpine rock, a terracotta pan or an old Belfast sink, create a cohesive look, matching the rock or container with the top dressing, to give it more of a natural landscape, suggests Lauren Fear, alpine horticulturist …

New NEA grant of up to S,500 to help beverage producers with costs of container return scheme

New NEA grant of up to S$2,500 to help beverage producers with costs of container return scheme

For the cost of scheme stickers, producers can email BCRS Ltd to seek reimbursement. The consortium will process the claims and make the first payment by March. Companies which do not wish to receive the grant can opt out by writing to transition_grant [at] bcrs.sg, said NEA.  COSTS FOR PRODUCERS  Under the scheme, producers must ensure that their beverage containers have a deposit mark to help consumers identify their eligibility for the 10-cent deposit refund.  Producers are also encouraged to have a Singapore-specific barcode on their containers to avoid a situation of overclaiming deposits.  “When international barcodes are used, the same barcode may appear on containers sold outside Singapore, where the 10-cent deposit has not been paid into the scheme,” NEA explained. “This creates a risk that such containers could be returned to reverse vending machines in Singapore, triggering a deposit refund even though no deposit was paid. “International experience has shown that shared barcodes can lead to overclaiming of the deposits.” Importers who are not able to influence their packaging design to include the …

Plastic-free soy sauce container biodegrades in 4 weeks

Get the Popular Science daily newsletter💡 Breakthroughs, discoveries, and DIY tips sent every weekday. Chances are sushi aficionados have left a restaurant take-out in tow and with a handful of adorable, but environmentally problematic, fish-shaped soy sauce packets. These single-use plastic “shoyu-tai” drip bottles are as iconic as they are convenient, but their small size and disposability mean they often end up sliding down sinks and into drains. Eventually, these plastic faux fish make their way to landfills or, worse, the ocean. Once in the big blue, they slowly break down into microplastics that are then eaten by real fish. Ironically, those microplastic-filled fish may one day end up nestled between rice at a sushi bar. One Australian state has already passed legislation banning the plastic fish-shaped soy sauce packets, and others are reportedly considering following suit. But designers at Heliograf and Australian design studio Vert Design may have found a way to keep the fish packet alive—albeit in a more sustainable form. Their newly designed fish is called Holy Carp! and is made entirely …
