Kimmel drew widespread backlash from Trump’s supporters after joking that Melania had the “glow of an expectant widow” days before a gunman stormed the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 25. “I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence, and normally would not be responsive to anything that he said but, this is something far beyond the pale,” Trump said of Kimmel’s joke on his Truth Social platform. “Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC,” he concluded. Kimmel later defended his divisive joke during Monday night’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, describing it as a light roast about the couple’s age difference …

Former NATO envoy warns of ‘very big mistakes’ in criticizing Trump on Iran – POLITICO

There are “ways to be proactive … without taking gratuitous shots at President Trump that don’t actually help,” he said. Be nice to Trump Instead, European leaders should follow the example of NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, who has been careful not to anger Trump by backing the war against Iran. “Working with President Trump, being complimentary, being enthusiastic, because … he is doing them a service,” is the approach they should take, Volker said. He also called on German Chancellor Friedrich Merz to turn up the charm on Trump. Germany has not restricted the use of its crucial Ramstein air base and Merz has not clashed with the U.S. president, although he has observed that relations with the U.S. are “just difficult” at the moment. Merz has been more circumspect with the president than Starmer, and Trump has not retaliated against him as he has with the British prime minister. “Unlike Keir Starmer, where President Trump seems to like to go after him a little bit, to poke him a little bit, he doesn’t do …

In criticizing Leo and posting image of himself resembling Jesus, Trump sparks outcry from religious allies

(RNS) — A pair of social media posts published by President Donald Trump over the weekend have stirred backlash among religious Americans, including some of the president’s Catholic and evangelical supporters, who condemned his strident criticism of Pope Leo and an image he posted depicting himself as a Jesus-like figure. The first post, which was published at around 9:00 p.m. ET Sunday evening (April 12), focused on Pope Leo, who has been critical of the Trump administration’s actions in the Iran war. In a lengthy statement, Trump declared the pontiff is “weak” on crime and nuclear weapons, and ultimately claimed Leo was only elevated to the papacy to counter the president. “Leo should be thankful because, as everyone knows, he was a shocking surprise,” Trump wrote. “He wasn’t on any list to be Pope, and was only put there by the Church because he was an American, and they thought that would be the best way to deal with President Donald J. Trump. If I wasn’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the …

Former Spartans Player Paul Davis Ejected From Game After Criticizing Officials From the Stands

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Former Michigan State and NBA player Paul Davis was ejected from the Breslin Center after vocally criticizing officials from the stands during the 12th-ranked Spartans’ 80-51 victory over Southern California on Monday night. Michigan State led 67-46 with just over six minutes left when officials motioned toward the stands to point out Davis, who was eventually ordered to leave. Television cameras showed longtime Michigan State coach Tom Izzo mouthing, “What are you doing?” toward Davis with his arms outstretched. Izzo, who coached Davis two decades ago, spoke in more detail about the incident after the game. “You know, I love Paul Davis,” Izzo said. “I really do. He’s one of my favorite guys. He’s always calling and doing things. But what he said, he should never say in the world. That ticked me off.” The 41-year-old Davis played for Michigan State from 2002-06 and was a three-year starter. He had career averages of 13.2 points and seven rebounds, including 17.5 points and 9.1 rebounds his senior season. He played in …
