Last month, the Oscar-nominated Marty Supreme star, 30, faced a wave of criticism after suggesting that “no one cares” about ballet and opera. Theron, 50, a former ballet dancer, weighed in on the controversy in a new interview with The New York Times, calling out Chalamet. “Oh, boy, I hope I run into him one day,” the Oscar-winning Monster actor said. “That was a very reckless comment on an art form, two art forms, that we need to lift up constantly because, yes, they do have a hard time.” She predicted that “in 10 years, A.I. is going to be able to do Timothée’s job, but it will not be able to replace a person on …

Jennifer English delivers emotional speech upon winning Best Actor at BAFTA Games Awards

Jennifer English delivers emotional speech upon winning Best Actor at BAFTA Games Awards

Pre-show favourite and leading nominee at the BAFTA Games Awards 2026 Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 walked away with three big prizes at the star-studded show: Best Game, Best Debut Game and Best Lead Actor. Heading into this year’s glitzy BAFTA Games Awards show, Clair Obscur had nominations across 12 different categories, including Best Game, Game Design, performance awards, Best Music and all of the technical awards. Somewhat surprisingly, it won only three – arguably the ‘big three’ – as Dispatch and Ghost of Yōtei picked up a handful each also. Want to see this content? How the latest Netrunner distro delivers a Linux productivity powerhouse

How the latest Netrunner distro delivers a Linux productivity powerhouse

Screenshot by Jack Wallen/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. ZDNET’s key takeaways Netrunner is a Linux distribution for all. Based on Debian, Netrunner uses a tweaked KDE desktop. Netrunner might not win design awards, but it works very well. KDE Plasma is one of the best desktop environments on the planet. It’s smooth, beautiful, user-friendly, and highly configurable. I would go so far as to say that KDE Plasma has surpassed GNOME as the most popular desktop environment for Linux. Some Linux distros, such as KDE Linux, ship with a fairly untouched version of KDE Plasma, whereas other distros ship with customized versions. Netrunner takes KDE Plasma and bends it into a hybrid of KDE Plasma, GNOME, and Windows 11. As a result, the Netrunner desktop distribution should be immediately familiar to anyone who has used a PC over the past decade. Some might consider that a bold statement, but it really is true. Also: KDE Linux is the purest form of Plasma I’ve used in months – but there’s a …

Zendaya Delivers Final Method Dressing Look on ‘The Drama’ Press Tour

Zendaya Delivers Final Method Dressing Look on ‘The Drama’ Press Tour

That’s a wrap on “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” for Zendaya. The Emmy Award-winning actress and fashion icon has completed her method dressing streak amid The Drama’s global press tour by stepping out at the New York premiere at Regal Union Square on Thursday night in a look by Schiaparelli with jewelry by Tiffany & Co. Zendaya stars opposite Robert Pattinson in A24’s The Drama, a film about a happily engaged couple whose relationship is put to the test when an unexpected revelation by the bride-to-be sends their wedding week off the rails. As a play on the plot — and perhaps as a cheeky nod to news that she is a newlywed herself after marrying longtime love Tom Holland — Zendaya and her stylist Law Roach have curated a series of looks that align with the wedding tradition of “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue.” It’s a well-known mix that, per Victorian-era codes, is meant to ward off evil spirits and deliver good luck to the couple. Her “something …

IndexCache, a new sparse attention optimizer, delivers 1.82x faster inference on long-context AI models

IndexCache, a new sparse attention optimizer, delivers 1.82x faster inference on long-context AI models

Processing 200,000 tokens through a large language model is expensive and slow: the longer the context, the faster the costs spiral. Researchers at Tsinghua University and Z.ai have built a technique called IndexCache that cuts up to 75% of the redundant computation in sparse attention models, delivering up to 1.82x faster time-to-first-token and 1.48x faster generation throughput at that context length. The technique applies to models using the DeepSeek Sparse Attention architecture, including the latest DeepSeek and GLM families. It can help enterprises provide faster user experiences for production-scale, long-context models, a capability already proven in preliminary tests on the 744-billion-parameter GLM-5 model. The DSA bottleneck Large language models rely on the self-attention mechanism, a process where the model computes the relationship between every token in its context and all the preceding ones to predict the next token. However, self-attention has a severe limitation. Its computational complexity scales quadratically with sequence length. For applications requiring extended context windows (e.g., large document processing, multi-step agentic workflows, or long chain-of-thought reasoning), this quadratic scaling leads to sluggish …

Sodium-ion EV battery delivers 11-min charging and 450 km range

Sodium-ion EV battery delivers 11-min charging and 450 km range

The next generation of electric vehicle batteries is arriving, promising to be more efficient, safer, and lower cost. After another breakthrough, sodium-ion batteries for passenger EVs are nearing mass production. Sodium-ion EV batteries begin rolling out in China Just over a month after CATL and Changan Automobile unveiled the world’s first mass-produced EV with a sodium-ion battery, another “breakthrough” was announced this week. China’s Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group) revealed its latest progress with the new battery tech this week. The company’s R&D unit (BAIC R&D) shared on its WeChat account that it had achieved a “significant breakthrough,” completing its first sodium-ion battery prototype. BAIC’s Aurora battery series now spans lithium-ion, solid-state, and sodium-ion batteries. The sodium-ion battery pack features prismatic cells with an energy density of over 170Wh/kg, placing it among the best in the industry. What the EU Biotech Act delivers for Europe – POLITICO

Biotechnology is central to modern medicine and Europe’s long-term competitiveness. From cancer and cardiovascular disease to rare conditions, it is driving transformative advances for patients across Europe and beyond.1       Yet innovation in Europe is increasingly shaped by regulatory fragmentation, procedural complexity and uneven implementation across member states. As scientific progress accelerates, policy frameworks must evolve in parallel, supporting the full lifecycle of innovation from research and clinical development to manufacturing and patient access.  The proposed EU Biotech Act seeks to address these challenges. By streamlining regulatory procedures, strengthening coordination and supporting scale-up and manufacturing, it aims to reinforce Europe’s position in a highly competitive global biotechnology landscape.2 Its success, however, will depend less on ambition than on delivery. Consistent implementation, proportionate oversight and continued global openness will determine whether the act translates into faster patient access, sustained investment and long-term resilience.  Q: Why is biotechnology increasingly seen as a strategic pillar for Europe’s competitiveness, resilience and long-term growth?  Gilles Marrache, SVP and regional general manager, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Africa and Canada, Amgen: Biotechnology sits at the intersection of health, industrial policy and economic competitiveness. The sector is one of Europe’s strongest strategic assets …

This New Watch Delivers Premium Touches at a (Relatively) Accessible Price

Picture the scene. You’re cruising above the Pacific, three and a half hours into a thirteen-hour trip: Sydney to Los Angeles. As you pass above Fiji, the cabin crew announces that you just crossed the international date line, and you’d better remember to set your watch back by a day before you land. You’re no fool: you wore your GMT watch, a piece, typically with an extra hour hand, designed to help you track time in two different places, for exactly this reason. But as you make the necessary adjustments, you realise that having fixed the time, the date’s still wrong. Instant air rage. Admittedly, that might have more to do with your decision to watch Captain America: Brave New World, but your shame as a watch geek for packing the “wrong” kind of GMT will be enduring. If this all sounds fairly ridiculous, that’s because it is, but there is undeniably a hierarchy of travel-time watches. Of course, every watch collector knows of the GMT, but most don’t realize there are two different types …
