Frontier Jet Hits Person On Takeoff, Engine Erupts In Flames At Denver

Frontier Jet Hits Person On Takeoff, Engine Erupts In Flames At Denver

A shocking runway security incident unfolded late Friday at Denver International Airport after Frontier Flight 4345, an Airbus A321 bound for Los Angeles, struck an individual during its takeoff roll, forcing the crew to abort. Full transcript of the ATC audio: Frontier 4345 (pilot): Tower, Frontier 4345, we’re stopping on the runway. We just hit somebody and have an engine fire. DEN Tower: Frontier 4345, I see that. DEN Tower (to Frontier 4345): Frontier 4345, I’m going to be rolling the trucks now. Do you know if there are souls on board and fuel remaining? Frontier 4345 (pilot): Alright, 4345 we have 231 souls on board. We have 21,320 pounds of fuel onboard. There was an individual walking across the runway. pic.twitter.com/4cA5JniCW1 — PaulyBee (@PaulyB303) May 9, 2026 In our view, a commercial jet at a major international airport does not simply “hit someone” on an active runway during takeoff, particularly near the point of rotation. This suggests a potentially serious breakdown in perimeter, airfield, or runway security controls. The incident appears to represent a major …

Trump Administration Sues Denver Over Its 1989 Assault Weapons Ban

Trump Administration Sues Denver Over Its 1989 Assault Weapons Ban

The Trump administration sued Denver and its police department on Tuesday seeking to strike down an assault weapons ban that’s been in place for Colorado’s largest city since 1989. The lawsuit came a day after city officials publicly rejected calls by the Department of Justice to repeal the longstanding local ordinance that makes it a crime to possess assault weapons. Trump’s Republican administration alleges the ban violates the Constitution’s Second Amendment right to bear arms. The administration also is threatening to sue Colorado over a statewide ban on large-capacity ammunition magazines adopted following a 2012 mass shooting at a movie theater. “The Constitution is not a suggestion and the Second Amendment is not a second-class right,” acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said in a statement on Tuesday. “Denver’s ban on commonly owned semi-automatic rifles directly violates the right to bear arms.” Department of Justice attorneys had asked the city last week to stop enforcing the ban and enter negotiations with federal officials to resolve the matter. But Denver’s mayor and police chief during a Monday …

Denver Art Museum Returns Looted Marble Head to Turkey

Denver Art Museum Returns Looted Marble Head to Turkey

The Denver Art Museum has returned a marble head of a bearded man stolen from the ancient city of Smyrna to Turkey. This marks the latest in a growing list of successful restitutions tied to the country’s renewed campaign to reclaim its cultural heritage from museums worldwide.  The sculpture’s provenance indicates it was likely carved in the fifth century BCE in Smyrna—the ancient Greek name for present-day Izmir. Situated on Turkey’s Aegean coast, the city is among the world’s oldest continuously inhabited seaports and trade centers, a distinction that has also made it a frequent site for archeological excavations and, inevitably, a target for illicit antiquities trafficking. According to Turkey’s Culture and Tourism Minister, Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, the marble head was unearthed in the city’s agora, or public gathering place. Related Articles “Through cooperation and constructive dialogue with the Denver Art Museum, we have brought this artifact back home,” Ersoy told the Turkish news outlet Yeni Şafak. The sculpture is now on view at the İzmir Archaeology Museum. In recent years, Turkey has notched a …

Denver Art Museum Reveals 2025 Acquisitions

The Denver Art Museum in Colorado announced this week that it acquired more than 750 works across all 11 of its curatorial departments in roughly the last year, with an emphasis on further diversifying its collection. Made between October 1, 2024, and September 30, 2025, the acquisitions included Tishan Hsu’s mammal-screen-green-1 (2024) and Jackie Amézquita’s el SUDOR de mi GENTE (2023), as well as works artists who had solo exhibitions at the museum in 2025 such as Dawoud Bey and Kent Monkman. The museum also acquired two important historical pieces by women: Berthe Morisot’s painting La Leçon au jardin (The Lesson in the Garden), from 1886, which was already on view but was only formally accessioned in 2025, and a rare version of Camille Claudel’s sculpture Rêve au coin du feu (Fireside Dream), which was conceived 1899 between 1905. Meanwhile, the museum expanded its photography collection by 133 works, among them seven 20-by-24-inch Polaroid photographs by modernist photographer and theoretician György Kepes, and its architecture and design department added 35 new objects, including two contemporary …
