An Emirates passenger aircraft meant to land in Newcastle hours after departing from Dubai declared a mid-air emergency and was re-routed. The flight, Ek35, which has now landed in Edinburgh after an in-flight emergency was declared, was scheduled to arrive at Newcastle at 11.20am on Tuesday. According to the reports, the Boeing 777 aircraft circled above Newcastle and Sunderland before the pilot activated an emergency protocol referred to as squawking 7700. Flight monitoring platform FlightRadar24 suggests the aircraft made an approach to Newcastle Airport before executing two ‘go-arounds’ – a manoeuvre whereby pilots call off a landing approach, circle back and make another attempt. An Emirates spokesperson said: “Emirates can confirm that adverse weather conditions on 27 January caused the diversion of Emirates flight EK035 from Dubai to Newcastle, to Edinburgh. The flight departed at 13:53 hrs local time. Emirates apologises for any inconvenience caused.
