Published On 28 Apr 202628 Apr 2026 United States President Donald Trump’s approval rating has dropped to its lowest point since he returned to the White House, sinking to 34 percent amid economic uncertainty and the US-Israel war on Iran, a Reuters/Ipsos poll suggests. Finnish cold-water swimmers reveal how frigid dips cure the modern rush

Finnish cold-water swimmers reveal how frigid dips cure the modern rush

Taking a plunge into freezing water might seem like a recipe for panic, but regular cold-water swimmers use the extreme chill to master the art of mental stillness. A new study published in the European Journal of Marketing shows that individuals who regularly swim in icy water learn to intentionally slow down their perception of time, transferring this calming skill into their daily lives. These findings suggest that intense physical routines can offer a quick antidote to the fast pace of modern society, proving people do not need to escape to a long retreat to find peace. Modern life is often defined by a frantic pace and constant digital connection. Many people seek out leisure activities that promise an escape from their everyday responsibilities. They hope for a chance to experience time passing more slowly. Activities that involve novel physical movements often help people detach from their racing thoughts and find a temporary oasis of relaxation. This societal pressure pushes individuals toward experiences that provide a stark contrast to their usual routines. Some people seek …

US stocks gain, dollar dips on hopes for Iran war negotiations

10Y Auction Tails As Foreign Demand Dips

10Y Auction Tails As Foreign Demand Dips

After yesterday’s impressive 3Y auction, moments ago the Treasury sold $39 billion in benchmark, 10Y paper, in what was a mediocre auction. The auction, a 9-Year 10-Month reopening of cusip CPX8, stopped at a high yield of 4.282%, up from 4.217% last month and the highest since last August. It also tailed the When Issued 4.280% by 0.2bps, the third consecutive tail in a row. The bid to cover dipped to 2.429 from 2.449, and was also below the six-auction average of 2.48. The internals also disappointed, as foreign demand slumped from March with Indirects awarded 65.32%, down from 74.45%, and below the recent average of 68.78%. Directs offset much of this drop, rising to 23.88%, almost double the 12.83% in March and the highest since January. Dealers were left holding 10.8%, down from 12.7% the previous month, but in line with the average of 10.05%. Overall this was a slightly subpar auction, especially after yesterday’s stellar 3Y auction, but in light of the bid drop in yields across the curve and the lack of …

WTI Dips After Big Crude Inventory Build, US Production Slows

WTI Dips After Big Crude Inventory Build, US Production Slows

Oil prices are down overnight but playing headline roulette with every word that comes out of any leaders’ (or non-leaders’) mouth as ceasefire chatter (now denied) has WTI riding a roller-coaster (but below $100 once again as we write). “Flows and actions matter more than words,” said Giovanni Staunovo, a commodity analyst at UBS Group AG. And while inventory data may not be the market-moving event in this new regime, it is useful to see signs of stockpiling or demand. DOE A sizable crude build (the sixth weekly rise in total US crude stocks in a row) was mirrored by the seventh weekly drawdown in gasoline stocks… Stockpiles at Cushing, Oklahoma, also rose for the sixth consecutive week. A 520,000-barre- build takes inventories at the storage hub to the highest level since July 2024. Stockpiles at Cushing are now firmly above 30 million barrels.  Stocks for all transport fuels in the US dropped this week with diesel falling 2 million barrels to the lowest level since mid-March. That fuel, alongside jet, is in the spotlight …

Historic Cole’s set to close permanently with collaborative French dips

Historic Cole’s set to close permanently with collaborative French dips

After eight months of extensions, lines of fans and negotiations to find a new buyer, one of L.A.’s oldest and most famous restaurants is set to close this weekend with a celebration. Cole’s, the city’s longest-running public house and alleged creator of the French dip sandwich, will shut its doors March 29. “We delayed the closure because we got such a great, big response of people coming out to support the restaurant, which we really appreciate,” said Cedd Moses, the founder of Pouring with Heart hospitality group. “But then business started receding again, so now at this point, we’re forced to close. We just can’t keep the doors open and keep hemorrhaging money.” Last July, Pouring with Heart, the owner of Cole’s since 2008, announced an early August closure for the downtown institution. This was then extended into September, which extended again through the end of 2025. In the last days of the year the group announced the restaurant and bar would run through January, but continued into March. The team delayed closing as they …

The 11 best hand blenders tried and tested on soups, smoothies, sauces and dips

The 11 best hand blenders tried and tested on soups, smoothies, sauces and dips

The best hand blenders (sometimes called immersion blenders or stick blenders) don’t just help you make delicious soups and smoothies: many have attachments that can whisk, chop, grate and mash your way to lump-free sauces, smooth baby food, creamy mash and crunchy slaws. Blitzing multiple ingredients is a great way to up your healthy eating game and reach the 30 plants a week target. Fussy kids need never know you’ve hidden extra veggies in their pasta sauce if a hand blender can whizz them into a smooth, soft texture. More compact than a full-sized blender, a hand blender should be easier to store in your kitchen drawers or cabinets. Hand blenders can be as basic or as sophisticated as you need, whether you’re a keen home cook or just want to whizz up a few smoothies. I tested hand blenders from under £50 to over £200 by leading brands including Morphy Richards, Bosch, Kenwood, Braun and more. You can read my full reviews below, followed by answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. …

Disneyland Resort relies on local visitors as international tourism dips

Disneyland Resort relies on local visitors as international tourism dips

Disneyland Resort’s high percentage of California visitors has helped mitigate a dip in international tourists, an executive said Thursday. More than 50% of the Anaheim theme park’s audience has typically been from California, Thomas Mazloum, president of Disneyland Resort, told reporters during a media event at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa. As a result, the company has been able to quickly shift marketing focus to that audience, as well as its ongoing efforts to boost out-of-state attendance. Walt Disney Co. had previously indicated a slowdown in international visitation at its U.S. theme parks in its fiscal first-quarter earnings call earlier this month. Company executives said they expected to see “modest” growth in its operating income for its experiences sector — which includes Disney’s theme parks — due to “headwinds” in foreign visitation trends to its domestic parks, as well as pre-launch costs for its new cruise ship and a “Frozen”-themed land in Disneyland Paris. And as Disneyland Resort hit its 70th anniversary last year, the park is looking to grow and find new audiences …

Meghan Markle Dips Into Viral ‘2026 is the New 2016’ Trend

Meghan Markle Dips Into Viral ‘2026 is the New 2016’ Trend

It’s not just your friends from college. Even Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle has leapt into the “2026 is the new 2016” trend that’s sweeping social media. But while most of us are dredging up grainy, 10-year-old shots and videos intended to establish that 2016 was a great year worthy of nostalgia, Meghan Markle might have more reason than most to look back, as 2016 was the year she met her now-husband, Prince Harry. These throwback posts have become almost a viral obligation, one that not even royalty can escape. In the Duchess of Sussex’s case the post was a short black-and-white video of the couple dancing barefoot on the grass—but the video, itself, wasn’t from ten years ago, as Markle notes it was shot by the Meghan and Harry’s daughter, Princess Lilibet Diana, who was born in 2021.
