Dog law change is now in force and ‘extended to paths and roads’

If in doubt, use a lead (Image: AnnaEle via Getty Images) Dog owners are being alerted about a significant legal change that could result in them facing unlimited fines. The Dogs (Protection of Livestock) (Amendment) Act 2025 officially took effect on March 18, 2026, introducing some of the most substantial updates to countryside regulations in decades. The alert arrives as extended daylight hours and milder temperatures encourage more individuals to venture outdoors for walks. Under the fresh legislation, which is applicable in England and Wales, the previous £1,000 ceiling on fines has been abolished, meaning courts can now impose unlimited fines on owners whose dogs are discovered to have worried livestock. Crucially, “livestock worrying” doesn’t simply mean an attack; it encompasses chasing animals or causing them distress or anxiety, even without any physical harm. Simultaneously, police have been granted enhanced powers to investigate incidents. Officers can now seize and detain dogs suspected of involvement, enter properties with a warrant and gather evidence, including obtaining DNA samples or mouth impressions to assist in identifying the dog …

Jacob Elordi Takes Flight in Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars Trailer

Jacob Elordi Takes Flight in Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars Trailer

Jacob Elordi is keeping booked and busy, with his latest project on display during Disney’s CinemaCon presentation on Thursday. The thriller tells the story of Hig (played by Elordi), a young pilot who, together with a military survivalist, Bangley (Josh Brolin), has carved out an efficient but isolated homestead in a brutal post-apocalyptic world. But that changes when a mysterious radio transmission spurs Hig to venture into the unknown in search of the hope and humanity he still believes exists.  Ridley Scott is in the director’s chair, with a theatrical release date set for Aug. 28. Based on Peter Heller’s bestseller, the film also stars Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong and Allison Janney. The film is written by Mark L. Smith and produced by Scott, Michael Pruss and Cliff Roberts.  The trailer arrived in Las Vegas — following a virtual appearance from Scott — at the same time it went public, and starts with Elordi and Qualley as a married couple excitedly bringing home a dog. Cut to a short time later and Elordi and …

Woman in her 70s killed in UK’s third fatal dog attack in a week | UK News

Woman in her 70s killed in UK’s third fatal dog attack in a week | UK News

A woman in her 70s has died after being attacked by two dogs in a house in Wolverhampton. West Midlands Police said officers were called to Willis Pearson Avenue at around 11.30pm on Wednesday but the victim died at the scene. A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control and causing injury resulting in death. He was taken to hospital after his hand was injured in the incident. Police said the dogs were destroyed at the house due to “continued aggression” when emergency services arrived. They are not believed to be banned breeds. The incident follows two other fatal dog attacks last week; a three-month-old girl died in Redcar, near Middlesbrough, and 19-year-old Jamie-Lea Biscoe died after being found with serious injuries in Leaden Roding, Essex. Deaths from dog bites increased more than 200% in a year, according to a new report on accidental deaths and hospital admissions. Source link

Dav Pilkey first appeared on my radar back in the early 2000’s when my brother began reading Captain Underpants. I loved seeing him light up about books the way I did. Now that I work at a library, I see that same enthusiasm amongst the many kids who check out the Pilkey books in our collection, especially the Dog Man series. That’s what makes Dav Pilkey’s books so special. They’re funny, heartfelt, and most importantly, they help kids fall in love with reading. Ever since I wrote a literature review on the enjoyment of reading back in college, I’ve been a strong believer in how much fostering a joy in reading can contribute to people becoming lifelong readers. This year marks 10 years since the publication of the first Dog Man book. I admire how much joy Dav Pilkey has brought to young readers, especially reluctant readers. To celebrate this special anniversary, I’m shining a well-deserved spotlight on …

You might even have experienced your pet responding to your emotional state. Animals seem to have impressive skills at detecting our state of health too. However, new research suggests that many dog owners are not skilled in recognising pain in their pets as they might like to think. This could have significant consequences for the behaviour, health and welfare of our pets. As a migraineur, I am amazed at how my dogs cope with me when a migraine hits. They seem to recognise the pain, distress and incapacity that comes along with a migraine and respond with more gentle interactions than usual. I hope that when the …

Satire is dead? Twenty Twenty Six proves there’s life in the old dog yet

Satire is dead? Twenty Twenty Six proves there’s life in the old dog yet

This article first appeared in Radio Times magazine. It was the great Tom Lehrer who said, when Henry Kissinger was awarded the 1973 Nobel Peace Prize, that “satire was dead”. This era’s professional wags were similarly minded to put down their pens after US President Donald Trump was given the inaugural Fifa Peace Prize ahead of this year’s World Cup. There is a lot that is wrong with this year’s tournament and the US’s co-hosting of it (I seem to remember writing a similar sentence in 2022 about Qatar), and I’m wary of wringing too much joy from the absurdities that have already abounded, such as US “star striker” Patrick Agyemang being ruled out through injury after pulling a hamstring for Derby County against Stoke City or, even more brow-raisingly, the nominated “Gay Pride match” being that between Iran and Egypt. What is there left for satirists to do? The answer, it transpires, is to insert some singularly British idiocy into the mix. Fourteen long years ago, in simpler days on the eve of the …

Dean McKay has been jailed for 27 months (Image: Alexander Lawrie / Edinburgh Live) A man who battered a dog to death with a metal pole has been jailed for 27 months and sentenced to a lifetime ban from owning or keeping animals. Dean McKay, 38, brutally attacked a female German Shepherd named Goldie after chasing the dog’s owner, Kyle Pugh, into a Premier store in the Calder Park area of Edinburgh in May 2024. McKay kicked the dog to the body before killing her by smashing her over the head with the metal pole which broke the dog’s neck, the Edinburgh Sheriff Court heard last month. McKay was with Daniel Devlin, 39, who also confronted Mr Pugh while armed with a knife and a claw hammer. The pair fled the scene after the attack. Muthaf***in’ Robot Dog In The Muthaf***in’ Hood

Authored by Steve Watson via modernity.news, Residents in Atlanta are staring down robot dogs patrolling their own apartment parking lots — with live foreign operators apparently calling the shots through the machines. Another viral video posted to X captures the raw street-level reaction as locals confront one of the mechanical units. The operator responds in real time, and the accent leaves little doubt about the location of the person on the other end of the feed. Atlanta residents react to the new robot dogs patrolling their apartment parking lot They speak to the dog and there seems to be a live operator talking back The person speaking very clearly is likely in India based on the accent There are plenty of videos of these dogs… pic.twitter.com/01h9kxwyNj — Wall Street Apes (@WallStreetApes) April 12, 2026 The post continues… “There are plenty of videos of these dogs calling the police on people, so that means someone sitting in India is patrolling our streets and calling the police on Americans.
