A skin cancer diagnosis can seem to arrive out of nowhere. But buried in years of health records, prescription histories, and demographic data, researchers say there may be clues that help flag people at especially high risk before melanoma appears. That is the idea behind a large Swedish study that tested whether artificial intelligence could sort through routine healthcare registry data and identify adults more likely to develop melanoma within five years. The work drew on records from more than 6 million people, making it one of the broadest efforts yet to use national population data for melanoma risk prediction. During the five-year study window, 38,582 of the 6,036,186 adults in the dataset developed melanoma, including melanoma in situ. That amounts to about 0.64% of the population studied. “Our study shows that data which is already available within healthcare systems can be used to identify individuals at higher risk of melanoma,” said Martin Gillstedt, a doctoral student at the University of Gothenburg’s Sahlgrenska Academy and a statistician at Sahlgrenska University Hospital’s Department of Dermatology and …

China-based company Xiamen Kang Zhongyuan Biotechnology Co., Ltd. is behind the recall that was initially announced March 20. The FDA then upgraded the recall to a Class II as of April 10, meaning consumers who ingest affected products could face health consequences. An August 2025 inspection of the manufacturing facility behind the products prompted the FDA to initiate the recall. Additional details were not supplied. An analysis of U.S. Medicaid data found that 26.7% of autistic adults without intellectual disability had an ADHD diagnosis. This was the case for 40.2% of autistic adults with intellectual disability. The paper was published in JAMA Network Open. Autism, or autism spectrum disorder, is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by specificities in social communication, sensory processing, and patterns of behavior or interests. It is called a spectrum because its manifestations vary widely, from individuals who need substantial daily support to those who live independently. Autism itself is not a disease and does not inherently imply poor health. However, autistic people have higher rates of certain co-occurring physical and mental health conditions compared with the general population. These commonly include anxiety, depression, ADHD, epilepsy, sleep disorders, and gastrointestinal problems. Barriers to healthcare access, such as communication difficulties and lack of healthcare provider training for working with autistic individuals, can worsen overall health outcomes. A new study published in Neuropsychopharmacology suggests that the use of oral contraceptives may influence how the brain regulates fear responses in safe environments. The research indicates that women who use birth control pills, particularly those with higher doses of synthetic estrogen, may experience elevated fear in safe contexts compared to women who have never used hormonal contraception. The findings also imply that these alterations in fear processing could persist for a significant period after an individual stops taking the medication. Anxiety disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder are nearly twice as prevalent in women as they are in men.
