How Elle Fanning Adapted Margo’s Got Money Troubles With a Few Key Changes

But in the show, as in the book, Margo is moved by Shyanne’s retelling of her birth story and subsequently unplanned foray into single motherhood. “I don’t want him,” Margo tells her mother about the baby’s father, Mark, in the series. “But for whatever reason, I want this baby. I want it more than I’ve ever wanted anything.” Let’s Get Prosthetic Another necessary nip and tuck in the adaptation? The pair of prosthetic breasts Fanning wears as Margo, designed by Jason Collins, the special effects designer and prosthetics lead for Pam & Tommy (2022). “I needed bigger boobs, so I had these fake, prosthetic tits,” Fanning told VF last year. “I am friends with Margaret Qualley—she wore them in The Substance. I liked it,” she added. “It’s fun to squeeze them.” Although Fanning shares that Pfeiffer wore fake teeth for her role as Shyanne, she declined further enhancement. “They wanted to do prosthetic boobs on me in the beginning. And I was fine with that until I heard how long it was going to take …

Elle Fanning in Apple Dramedy

Elle Fanning in Apple Dramedy

Viewed from a great distance — like, say, the interstellar perspective of the UFO that descends upon Fullerton, California, in one of the protagonist’s fanciful sci-fi videos — Margo’s Got Money Troubles might appear at first like a venture into a strange and alien land. The ensemble is stuffed with colorful job descriptions: former Hooters waitress (Michelle Pfeiffer’s Shyanne), ex pro wrestler (Nick Offerman’s Jinx), a trio of OnlyFans models. The opening narration, from Margo herself (Elle Fanning), tells of “impossible possibilities” and “trying to avoid reality by rewriting it.” All in all, the David E. Kelley series would seem to have all the hallmarks of an aggressively quirky family drama, the sort where everyone seems adorably odd but also not quite real. Margo’s Got Money Troubles The Bottom Line Warm, welcoming and well-acted. Venue: SXSW Film Festival (TV Premiere)Airdate: Wednesday, April 15 (Apple)Cast: Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nick Offerman, Greg Kinnear, Thaddea Graham, Michael Angarano, Nicole KidmanCreator: David E. Callum Turner, Elle Fanning in Dark Satire

Callum Turner, Elle Fanning in Dark Satire

The Pet Shop Boys’ synth-pop banger “Paninaro” is a tongue-in-cheek anthem to hedonistic Italian youth culture of the 1980s, its label-whore obsessions and its blithe superficiality. Fittingly, the song’s thumping beat is heard twice, real loud, in Rosebush Pruning, Karim Aїnouz’s high-gloss, pitch-dark satire about an American family described by one of its scions as mediocre, vapid egotists, who will never have to work thanks to a large inheritance. Fashion and techno music are the chief interests of the surviving members, one of whom dreams of Bottega Veneta loafers floating in the sky. The Taylor family left New York for the Catalonia coast six years earlier and have never quite managed to fit in, which is not surprising given the insular bubble of circle-jerk flattery that have built. Rosebush Pruning The Bottom Line Tart and amusing at times but leaves a sour taste. Venue: Berlin Film Festival (Competition)Cast: Callum Turner, Riley Keough, Jamie Bell, Lukas Gage, Elena Anaya, Tracy Letts, Elle Fanning, Pamela AndersonDirector: Karim AїnouzScreenwriter: Efthimis Filippou, inspired by the film Fists in the …

‘Árru’ Film Clip for Sámi Berlin Debut Movie by Elle Sofe Sara

‘Árru’ Film Clip for Sámi Berlin Debut Movie by Elle Sofe Sara

Ancestral lands with reindeer face the threat of a mining project in Árru, the feature directorial debut of choreographer and filmmaker Elle Sofe Sara. And buried beneath the snowy landscapes of the Arctic region of Sápmi, where the Sámi live, the only indigenous people of the European Union, lies family trauma. Sounds like it will take a strong female protagonist to take on such challenges. That woman is Maia, portrayed by Sara Marielle Gaup Beaska, who stars alongside Simon Issát Marainen, Ayla Gáren Nutti, and Mikkel Gaup. Maia fights to protect her ancestral lands from a looming mining project. Amid protests, she turns to her charismatic uncle Lemme (Gaup) for help. But that only brings back those aforementioned traumas. A synopsis for the movie sums up her dilemma this way: “Maia must choose: save the land at the cost of her family or surrender it to break the silence.” Árru world premieres in the Panorama section of the Berlin International Film Festival on Feb. 16. The Sámi, who inhabit Sápmi, spanning the Northern parts of …

Elle Fanning’s Oscar nomination still undersells her year

Elle Fanning’s Oscar nomination still undersells her year

Versatility is an actor’s bread and butter. If a performer walks into an audition, they’ve got to be ready to read the lines however the script supervisor and director see fit. Do it again, but this time with a little more grit. Give us emotion. Give us anger. Give us power. Actors have to be ready to adjust at a moment’s notice. Flexibility is the name of the game, second only to talent. But versatility is also a lost art — collateral damage during the construction of the pipeline that directly funnels social media stars to the screen. In the age of self-tape auditions and Instagram industry connections, an actor’s artistic elasticity is deprioritized. What so often matters most these days is the size of an actor’s following or which established person can vouch for them. That’s also why, if you notice that an actor tends to play one type of role, it’s worth googling whether they have famous relatives. Fanning’s turn in “Predator: Badlands” would be striking as it is, but examined alongside “Sentimental …
