Legendary actress who was told off for asking Prince William for a kiss | Royal | News

A legendary British actress has revealed the moment she was jokingly rebuked by Prince William after asking for a kiss. Emma Thompson had known the Prince of Wales for years when she received her damehood from him in November 2018, following a friendship with King Charles that stretched back to the 1990s. The Oscar-winning actress, who has presented at William’s Earthshot Awards, shared a playful moment with the future King while being awarded the honours as a result, including asking him for a kiss during the ceremony. Speaking to reporters while promoting the Disney film Cruella, Ms Thompson said: “Prince William was absolutely fantastic. I wrote him a fan letter afterwards. His face and body language, so kind and generous to every single person.” “I’ve known him since he was little, really,” she added. “I’ve always liked him. I couldn’t believe how tall he’d got. I did say, ‘I suppose I’d better not kiss you’, and he said, ‘Probably better not’.” She added that she then asked the prince a question about himself, to which …

‘Everybody to Kenmure Street’ Director Interview on Doc, Emma Thompson

A film telling the story of “one of Scotland’s most spontaneous and successful acts of civil resistance in recent memory” deserves a title full of urgency. And documentary maker Felipe Bustos Sierra found one: Everybody to Kenmure Street. Executive produced by two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson, who also has a surprising other role (more on that later), recently opened the 22nd edition of the Glasgow Film Festival after its world premiere at Sundance. On Wednesday, it screens at CPH:DOX, the Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival, before debuting in cinemas in the U.K. and Ireland via Conic on Friday, March 13. Everybody to Kenmure Street tells what at first seems like a David and Goliath story. In May 2021, a U.K. Home Office dawn raid in the Glasgow district of Pollokshields, one of Scotland’s most diverse neighborhoods, prompted local residents to rush to the streets to stop the deportation of two neighbors. “As word spread in the early morning of what was Eid celebrations for many locals, a handful of protestors swelled to hundreds of people, flooding Kenmure Street and …

Alan Rickman’s widow shares heartbreaking reflection 10 years after his death

Alan Rickman’s widow, Rima Horton, reflected on her late husband’s legacy in a rare comment for the former politician, who first met the Harry Potter star in 1965. Alan passed away in January 2016 after a battle with pancreatic cancer, which has one of the lowest survival rates of any cancer as it often goes undetected until the advanced stages. Rima spoke to BBC Breakfast about Alan’s private health battle on Tuesday while promoting a special charity prize draw to raise funds for Pancreatic Cancer UK. “He had so much more to give. There were so many more things he could have done,” she said in the interview. The 78-year-old added that he underwent six months of chemotherapy that extended his life expectancy, but ultimately “didn’t cure” his cancer.  © WireImageAlan’s wife Rima is raising money for pancreatic cancer research “The biggest problem is that by the time that people find out they’ve got it, it’s too late,” she explained. “The symptoms are so difficult to work out. What we’re trying to do is raise …

Glasgow Film Festival 2026 Sets Opener Exec Produced by Emma Thompson

Everybody to Kenmure Street, the new documentary from Felipe Bustos Sierra that was executive produced by two-time Oscar winner Emma Thompson, will open the 22nd edition of the Glasgow Film Festival (GFF) on Feb. 25. It tells the story of “one of Scotland’s most spontaneous and successful acts of civil resistance in recent memory.” The film will world premiere at Sundance before getting its U.K. premiere at Glasgow. “In May 2021, a U.K. Home Office dawn raid in the Glasgow district of Pollokshields, one of Scotland’s most diverse neighborhoods, prompted local residents to rush to the streets to stop the deportation of their neighbors,” explains a synopsis. “As word spread in the early morning of what was Eid celebrations for many locals, a handful of protestors swelled to hundreds of people, flooding Kenmure Street and making it impassable to the immigration enforcement van. The eight-hour stand-off made international headlines as the community organized itself in an extraordinary act of peaceful solidarity.” The film uses crowd-sourced footage from the day along with archive film and “set-designed …
