ZDNET’s key takeaways Nothing’s new Headphone (a) are available now for $199. They offer a unique design, long battery, great sound, and intuitive button controls. Although they’re lighter than their predecessors, they still feel a little clunky after extended wear. Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. These days, good sound isn’t that hard to come by. So how do headphones differentiate themselves? If you’re the London-based Nothing, you’ll give your headphones great battery life, add some smart quality-of-life improvements, and a distinct visual style. Right-Wing Gun Enthusiasts and Extremists Are Working Overtime to Justify Alex Pretti’s Killing

Right-Wing Gun Enthusiasts and Extremists Are Working Overtime to Justify Alex Pretti’s Killing

Brandon Herrera, a prominent gun influencer with over 4 million followers on YouTube, said in a video posted this week that while it was unfortunate that Pretti died, ultimately the fault was his own. “Pretti didn’t deserve to die, but it also wasn’t just a baseless execution,” Herrera said, adding without evidence that Pretti’s purpose was to disrupt ICE operations. “If you’re interfering with arrests and things like that, that’s a crime. If you get in the fucking officer’s way, that will probably be escalated to physical force, whether it’s arresting you or just getting you the fuck out of the way, which then can lead to a tussle, which, if you’re armed, can lead to a fatal shooting.” He described the situation as “lawful but awful.” Herrera was joined in the video by former police officer and fellow gun influencer Cody Garrett, known online as Donut Operator. Both men took the opportunity to deride immigrants, with Herrera saying “every news outlet is going to jump onto this because it’s current thing and they’re going …

Meet the Vitalists: the hardcore longevity enthusiasts who believe death is “wrong”

Meet the Vitalists: the hardcore longevity enthusiasts who believe death is “wrong”

“There’s a lot of closeted scientists working in our field, and they get really excited about lifespans increasing,” explains Ives of Shift Bioscience. “But you’ll get people who’ll accuse you of being a lunatic that wants to be immortal.” He claims that people who represent biotech companies tell him “all the time” that they are secretly longevity companies but avoid using the term because they don’t want funders or collaborators to be “put off.” Ultimately, it may not really matter how much people adopt the Vitalist label as long as the ideas break through. “It’s pretty simple. [The Vitalist declaration] has five points—if you agree with the five points, you are a Vitalist,” says Hamalainen. “You don’t have to be public about it.” He says he’s spoken to others about “coming out of the closet” and that it’s been going pretty well.  Gries puts it more bluntly: “If you agree with the Vitalist declaration, you are a Vitalist.”  And he hints that there are now many people in powerful positions—including in the Trump administration—who share …

Finally, a computing accessory that both PC enthusiasts and professionals can be excited for

Hyper Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. Hyper, maker of a wide range of computing accessories, announced a handful of new products today at CES, including the much-anticipated TrackPad Pro, a premium haptic standalone touchpad for Windows that’s wireless. Hyper also announced a USB4 M.2 PCIe enclosure supporting NVMe SSDs and PCIe modules via USB4 at speeds of 64bps in an aluminum enclosure for thermal performance. Hands-on with Hyper Trackpad Pro I went hands-on with the TrackPad Pro earlier this year and found it to fill a gap in the market as a premium, highly customizable trackpad for Windows, targeting creatives, programmers, or everyday users who prefer using gestures on either a laptop or desktop.  The result is a device that lacks distinct parallels on the market, particularly at this level of …

Pebble’s newest e-paper smartwatch is for enthusiasts who want the analog feel

Pebble/ZDNET Follow ZDNET: Add us as a preferred source on Google. ZDNET’s key takeaways Pebble unveiled the Pebble Round 2 on Friday. It’s a thin, open-source smartwatch with a 10-day battery life. It improves on the Pebble Time Round, which launched in 2015. Ten years after Pebble’s launch of its first-generation round smartwatch, the Pebble Time Round, the indie watch brand arrives with the Pebble Round 2 — and improvements in almost every area. Pebble announced the Round 2 on Friday, with a longer battery life and a larger display. Also: CES 2026 news: Live updates on TVs, smart glasses, phones, and more we’ve seen so far The watch has maintained its thinness while addressing common user complaints, like the thick bezel that wraps around the display and the short battery life of the Pebble Time Round. This isn’t the kind of watch you’d use for marathon training. It’s a sleek, elegant, and functional device that can track some health details, primarily sleep and steps, but forgoes the breadth of a fitness watch for timekeeping, communication, and …

The 15 best laptops for gamers, students, Mac enthusiasts and more

Buying a laptop is a smoother experience than it used to be, with choices for all budgets and needs. But that in itself can be a double-edged sword, with the tyranny of choice leading to a feeling of paralysis. Fortunately, I’ve reviewed nearly 40 laptops for Telegraph Recommended in 2025, and narrowed the list down to 15 top picks, grouped by category. Of course, you may just want a recommendation for a really good, general-purpose laptop for everyday use. In that case, I can save you time and point you towards the outstanding Asus Zenbook S16, which remains my top recommendation as the best overall laptop currently on the market. However, if your requirements are a little more specific, then read on. Here are the categories I’ll be assessing. Gaming laptops: As the name suggests, these are laptops optimised for gaming. They come with powerful graphics cards (sometimes referred to as GPUs), displays that can refresh at 144Hz or more and, ideally, will let you add more RAM and storage for upgradability. Laptops for students: …
