Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future was a groundbreaking science fiction comic serial, first appearing in the UK comic The Eagle in 1950. Now, more than 75 years later, a reinvention of the series is underway, with the first new graphic novel written by Alex de Campi (Bad Girls and Madi) with art by Marc Laming (Marvel’s Star Wars). set for later this year. As science fiction enthusiast and a scientist, I am excited to see what it will be like. I’m sure I’m not alone, as a number of scientists – including the late astrophysicist and cosmologist Stephen Hawking and planetary scientist Colin Pillinger – cited Dan Dare’s exciting vision of the future as instrumental in their decision to pursue science. Netflix formally opened and inaugurated a new Warsaw office on Monday, 10 years after first launching its streaming service in Poland. “Including Netflix’s only technology hub outside of the United States, this new office brings world-class technical and creative talent together under one roof: the engineers who design and build products used across Netflix’s global ecosystem, and the creative team driving its ambitious Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) content slate,” the streaming giant said. Located in the heart of the city, the new office houses 300 staff across content and engineering, as well as marketing, global affairs, communications, finance, and talent. Netflix opened its first Poland office in 2022, with its dedicated technology hub established the following year. “Since then, Netflix’s engineering footprint in Warsaw has grown significantly, and the team will continue to expand over the coming years with additional focus on infrastructure, gaming and production technology,” the company said. “I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved in Poland over the last decade,” said Greg Peters, co‑CEO of Netflix, who traveled to Warsaw for the opening of …

Here’s a hot take: South by Southwest is a Latin music festival. When the De Los team headed to Austin, Texas, in 2024 to cover the event for the first time, approximately 60 acts that fell under the expansive Latin music genre umbrella had been invited to perform. It may only be March, but Celine Dion is already looking towards summer. The Canadian hitmaker sent fans wild with a series of swimsuit-clad photos she shared on Instagram, showing herself on a luxury yacht.  The post featured throwbacks from 2008 when Celine was at sea, soaking up the sunshine as she posed in a blue one-piece with the sun pouring down on her  Celine, 57, captioned the dreamy post: “Outfits I can’t wait to wear again… Who else is excited for summer?” She added the year and location of the photos: “Gérard Schachmes (2008 – Cape Town),” she wrote.  Fans commented: “Oh my,” remarking on her tanned and toned physique and lush surroundings. I love watching those Letterboxd street interviews where they ask strangers to name their top four films of all time. I genuinely don’t know what mine would be. It would depend on the day. It would depend on the mood. But the original The Devil Wears Prada would absolutely be in there, no doubt. I remember watching the 2006 film for the first time and thinking it was just…great. Not “This is so clever” great. Not “Wow, what a twist” great. Just perfect. The pacing, the performances, the clothes. At age 11, I was maybe a little young to be absorbing Miranda Priestly’s sub-zero energy and Nigel Kipling’s velvety sarcasm. But it lodged itself somewhere permanent—for everyone, really. Twenty years later, the sequel is finally on the way, and I feel weirdly protective and very excited. A new trailer for The Devil Wears Prada 2, due out May 1, dropped this week.
