Everything Nigel Farage’s critics get wrong about Reform UK deportation plan | Politics | News

Never mind comparisons with Donald Trump, as someone who lives in Singapore, I can confidently say nothing Nigel Farage announced yesterday would look out of place here or in the other developed democracies of Asia. Yesterday the Reform chief announced asylum claims going back years would be reviewed with the possibility of over 400,000 folks being deported. The only difference is – unlike the enfeebled countries of the West – Asia would never have got itself into this mess to start with. No ECHR here, friends. As for the 1951 Refugee Convention Reform wants Britain to leave, Singapore isn’t even a signatory. Japan is. But Japan defines a refugee so narrowly it barely takes any in. These nations have strong borders and strong law enforcement. Sod the freedom to screech like a banshee, real freedom is being able to walk alone at 3am in total safety. That you can in Seoul, Singapore, Taipei and Tokyo (and, to some extent, in Budapest and Warsaw). Now try London, New York and Paris. See the difference? Tough on …

Greens Deny Farages Allegation Of Cheating In By Election

The Green Party has hit back at Nigel Farage’s claim the party won the Gorton and Denton by-election thanks to “sectarian voting and cheating”. The Reform UK leader hit out after his party’s candidate, Matt Goodwin, was comfortably beaten into second place by the Greens’ Hannah Spencer. She won with a majority of nearly 4,500 after a bitterly-fought contest which saw Labour beaten into third place. After the polls closed on Thursday night, independent election observers Democracy Volunteers revealed they had witnessed “concerningly high levels of family voting” throughout the day. That is where where two people use one polling booth and potentially direct each other on voting. Democracy Volunteers director John Ault said: “Based on our assessment of today’s observations, we have seen the highest levels of family voting at any election in our 10 year history of observing elections in the UK. “We rarely issue a report on the night of an election, but the data we have collected today on family voting, when compared to other recent by-elections, is extremely high. “In …

Likewise, Jenrick said taxes are “clearly too high” and promised to “build an economy that serves alarm clock Britain” — people who get up early for work — but was thin on the detail of any specific tax cuts. Fundamental questions about the shape of policy or the economy under Reform have yet to be answered. Four groups are due to finish work in May on regulation, growth capital, pensions and savings, and tax. Farage and Tice have toyed with the idea of scrapping the “triple lock” (which guarantees large increases in the state pension) but have not reached a conclusion. Braverman said 50 percent of young people should enter manual trades, while Tice has suggested a complete overhaul of pensions for public sector workers; these policies are yet to be fleshed out. At the same time, Farage’s appointees have their hands full — especially Tice, whose theoretical super-department would cover business, trade, energy and housing policy. He is also still in charge of Reform’s cost-cutting efforts in local councils. Some basic questions about personnel …

Farage’s party Reform UK draws increasing numbers of Conservative MPs

Former UK interior minister Suella Braverman and Nigel Farage, leader of Reform UK, at a press conference in London on January 26, 2026. ISABEL INFANTES / REUTERS Three high-profile defections in less than three weeks from the Conservative Party to Reform UK: In the United Kingdom, the right is shifting ever more rapidly toward the far right. On Monday, January 26, Suella Braverman, who served as interior minister under both Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak, confirmed that she was giving up her Tory party membership to join Nigel Farage’s anti-immigration movement. She follows in the footsteps of Robert Jenrick, Sunak’s former secretary of state for migration, who crossed the Rubicon on January 15, and Nadhim Zahawi, who briefly served as Boris Johnson’s chancellor of the Exchequer, and made the switch three days earlier. In total, around 20 current and former Conservative officials have moved to the far right since 2024. “I feel like I’ve come home!” said Braverman during a joint press conference with Farage in central London. “I share that love for that country …

Nigel Farage’s support for Trump is putting off potential voters – POLITICO

“Stevenage woman” became pollsters’ shorthand for mothers based in towns and suburbs at the last election, who were seen as crucial to Labour’s 2024 general election victory. Farage might “just be a stooge” for Trump, Lauren, a mental health support worker, said. “He might just be [Trump’s] whipping boy. That kind of concerns me,” the 54-year-old added. Jane, a 51-year-old stay-at-home mum of three, said: “There’s no one who will actually stand up to him. Trump would say, ‘do this, do that,’ and Nigel would be like ‘yep, yep.’” When asked to pinpoint the greatest threat to the U.K., Rachel, a 47-year-old property manager, said: “I think Trump, full stop.” These women are not alone in their view. Wider polling by More in Common, the think tank which organized the focus group held on Monday night, found 25 percent of women see Farage’s support for Trump as the top reason not to vote Reform. That compared to 21 percent of the men surveyed between Jan. 10 and 13. More in Common’s sample size was 2,036 …

Reeves Says Farage’s Push To Keep Two-Child Cap Is Based On Race

Reeves Says Farage’s Push To Keep Two-Child Cap Is Based On Race

Rachel Reeves has claimed Nigel Farage’s opposition to the lifting of the two-child benefit cap is based on skin colour. The chancellor’s punchy attack on the Reform UK leader comes as she is set to reveal new legislation to lift the Tory policy in April. It comes a year after Labour insisted on keeping it as as cost-cutting measure, and earning plenty of backlash from its own MPs in the process. Reeves told the Guardian she had delayed removing the cap, meant to help lift 550,000 children out of poverty, until the markets were stable. This U-turn is set to cost the government £3 billion a year by 2029-30. Farage told a press conference on Wednesday that his party will be voting against scrapping the cap, because he was concerned it would benefit “huge numbers of foreign-born people”. The chancellor claimed that effectively suggested some children deserved to be in poverty. She told the newspaper: “I don’t really care what colour a kid’s skin is – some deserve to be in poverty and some don’t? …
