Ronald Reagan’s faux pas with King Charles at the White House

Ronald Reagan’s faux pas with King Charles at the White House

More than 200 years after the Boston Tea Party, a simple cup of tea served to a British royal at the White House is said to have “horrified” the President of the United States. When King Charles, then-the Prince of Wales, visited Washington, D.C. in 1981, he met with President Ronald Reagan in the Oval Office of the White House, where the “faux pas” took place. David Charter, author of Royal Audience: 70 Years, 13 Presidents — One Queen’s Special Relationship with America, tells HELLO!: “Ronald Reagan was horrified when he had Prince Charles into the Oval Office and they brought him a cup of tea that still had the tea bag in it, and he could see that he wasn’t drinking this cup of tea, and he thought he’d made a terrible faux pas.” WATCH: Prince William and Princess Kate display powerful ’emotional stability’ at State Banquet It’s “a very small little faux pas like that,” David thinks “that somehow only endear each side [the British and Americans] to the other a little bit more”. …

Real or faux, vintage or new, fur is no longer hiding

Real or faux, vintage or new, fur is no longer hiding

In the heart of Paris, in front of the entrance to a fashion school, two students took a cigarette break, fur coats draped over their shoulders. “It’s vintage,” one of them warned when approached. “I bought it at a thrift store. I wonder who used to own it. Who knows, maybe Marguerite Duras or Françoise Sagan?” This winter, the streets of the capital are teeming with fur coats – often brightly colored, sometimes oversized – worn by people of all ages. Yet, until recently, wearing such attire openly in the city was considered socially shameful. Today, when the fur is real, it most often comes from pieces found secondhand or taken out of closets (or at least, that is what those wearing it are quick to clarify when asked about their outfit). Occasionally, but this is rarer, it is new, purchased from a handful of maisons that continue to uphold traditional craftsmanship. More often, it is imitation: The fur-free market, which encompasses a wide range of realities and price points depending on the brand, is …

Molotov Cocktails, Volatility, Stability, And Faux Liquidity

From silver, to software stocks, to cryptocurrency, we have seen violent price swings on almost a daily basis. We have political risks, geopolitical risks, as well as the implications of a rapidly evolving technological shift. We touched on Non-Standard Deviations last week, and are going to expand on that today. We will attempt to examine the bigger picture of the potential volatility from transitioning from one world economic order to another. We also highlight how liquidity, or in our view, the lack of a true depth of liquidity, plays in this world. Molotov Cocktails Gasoline, in a tank (or a bottle) at room temperature, is stable. Apply a catalyst (a rag lit on fire) and we enter the “volatility” phase. An explosive, hot, and unpredictable phase. Once the heat has dissipated, we are left with CO2 and H2O (carbon dioxide and water). Both are very stable. And in our example, there is some broken glass from the …

Queen Letizia creates ‘instant drama’ in faux fur cape

On Tuesday, 6 January, the Spanish royal family celebrated Pascua Militar, an annual military ceremony paying tribute to the Armed Forces for their commitment to protecting the Spanish people. It’s an incredibly significant event in the royal calendar, and so, the family always ensures that they’re dressed to the nines for the occasion. While King Felipe and Princess Leonor had to wear military uniforms, Queen Letizia of Spain brought out the most incredible outfit that carried the same heft, though in a more specifically regal manner – and one brilliant statement piece completely stole the spotlight. © Getty Images Queen Letizia and Princess Leonor at the Pascua Militar ceremony on January 06, 2026 in Madrid, Spain As identified by royal style blogger @royalfashionpolice on Instagram, the 53-year-old opted for a faux fur-trimmed black cape from her go-to designer, Carolina Herrera, that she’s worn four times in the past, most recently in October 2025. © Getty Images King Felipe and Queen Letizia at the Pascua Militar ceremony at the Royal Palace on January 06, 2026 in …
