I changed these hidden Google Maps settings and my commute feels completely different

Navigation apps are like politics—everyone has an opinion and everyone picks a side. Having tried almost every other app in existence, I have firmly settled on Google Maps, mostly because I like its features, interface, user interaction, and deep integration with the Google ecosystem. However, for the most part, I used Google Maps in default mode and never bothered to explore its settings fully. What I have since found lurking beneath is an impressive array of user features that have not only revolutionized my daily commute experience but have changed the way I vacation, plan routes, and interact with my devices. These small additions add up to make a big difference, and after adjusting just a handful of settings, my daily commute became smoother, less stressful, and even a bit more enjoyable. Related I replaced Google Maps with this app and didn’t miss it Biggest comeback of 2026. Sex After Menopause: Women Over 50 Share How It Feels And How To Feel Better

Sex After Menopause: Women Over 50 Share How It Feels And How To Feel Better

Menopause can bring about a number of mental, physical and emotional changes — including some shifts in your sex life. Clinically speaking, menopause is reached when you’ve gone 12 straight months without a period, marking the end of one’s reproductive years. The average age of the last menstrual period is 51, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. But the transitional phase leading up to menopause, known as perimenopause, typically lasts about four years — though it can be as short as a few months or as long as 10 years. Colloquially, however, many use the word “menopause” as an umbrella term to encompass the whole process. During perimenopause, which often begins in your mid 40s, levels of hormones like estrogen and progesterone fluctuate. This can lead to irregular periods, hot flashes, insomnia, brain fog, mood swings, vaginal dryness and low libido — all of which can impact one’s sex life directly or indirectly. It’s worth noting that, for some individuals, symptoms may be intense and last a while, and for others they …

Huawei Teases a Wider Foldable, and the Timing Feels Very Apple-Adjacent

Huawei Teases a Wider Foldable, and the Timing Feels Very Apple-Adjacent

Huawei’s new extra-wide foldable phone was revealed on Monday, and it’s already drawing comparisons to the next big thing from Apple. Little is known about the Pura X Max, teased on China’s Weibo social network, but the internet is buzzing over its uncommon proportions, wide aspect ratio and similarities with the rumored iPhone Fold expected to arrive later this year.  There are plenty of different ways to fold a phone, and tech companies have been experimenting with various configurations over the last few years. There are clamshell-style devices, like the Motorola Razr and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, which fold like OG flip phones, shrinking down into a pocketable square. Then came taller, book-style phones that unfold to reveal larger, tablet-size displays. These days, you can even find trifold phones with two hinges. However you fold it, most foldables either start or end with the familiar candybar shape as their base. Manufacturers have experimented with a variety of different foldable configurations, yet the Pura X Max’s wide proportions are uncommon. Huawei Huawei’s Pura X Max — …

I tried an abliterated local LLM and it feels nothing like the others

I tried an abliterated local LLM and it feels nothing like the others

Local LLMs are great for privacy; they run locally and require no subscription. That is, until you realize they suffer the same problems their cloud counterparts do: extremely restricted safety guardrails. Safety measures online are one thing, but if you’re running your AI model locally, bypassing them should be easy, right? Turns out, it actually is. If you’ve ever gone down the local LLM rabbit hole, you must have come across abliterated models. Local LLMs have already made cloud versions obsolete for certain tasks, and once you run them without restrictions, you’ll never look at regular models the same way. What abliterated LLMs actually are Stripped-down models with their guardrails removed Yadullah Abidi / MakeUseOf AI models go through a process called RLHF or reinforced learning from human feedback before launch. This process trains the model to refuse requests it deems harmful or sensitive. The model learns a specific direction in its activation space that teaches it what requests to refuse, hence implementing safety guardrails that prevent it from abuse when implemented in online services. …

I set up Pi-hole on my home network, and the internet feels like a completely different place

I set up Pi-hole on my home network, and the internet feels like a completely different place

If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance that your internet’s working. You’re probably using the modem that came with your internet package. Maybe you’ve added your own router to the mix. But there’s one change that has the power to revolutionize your home network and everything you connect to it. And as is so often the case with these things, it’s DNS. It’s always DNS. Normally, all of your devices, from phones to computers to smart home accessories, use the DNS servers provided by your internet service provider (ISP). Alternatively, you can choose to use DNS servers from other companies. Google and Cloudflare are some of the more popular options, and they are often faster and more reliable than the servers offered by your ISP. But I wanted even more control and even better performance, so I rolled my own. These days, my home network runs on two Pi-hole DNS servers powered by virtualized Ubuntu machines. And now I’ve tasted the benefits, I’ll never go back to using anyone else’s servers. Related Your router …

11 Phrases A Man Only Says If He Feels Deep Soulmate-Level Love For You

11 Phrases A Man Only Says If He Feels Deep Soulmate-Level Love For You

You can definitely tell the difference between a man who likes you on a surface-level basis and a man who feels something so deeply for you that it truly impacts every facet of his life. Despite movies telling us that declarations of love should be over-the-top and lavish, sometimes the best way to show love is just through words that have meaning. A soulmate-level love shows up not only in how a man treats you, but also in the things that he reassures you about every single day. In fact, hearing affirming words from someone you trust can strengthen emotional security and even support clearer thinking and connection in a relationship. A man who feels a deep, soulmate-level love for you will speak this way to you even when he’s not trying to impress you. The words may sound incredibly simple, but you can practically feel the weight beneath them. What he says aligns with exactly how he shows up, and that kind of consistency is one of the clearest signs that his feelings are …

Aventon Current ADV Electric Mountain Bike Review: Feels Just Like the Real Thing

Aventon Current ADV Electric Mountain Bike Review: Feels Just Like the Real Thing

While Aventon is known first and foremost as an ebike brand, the company started by making fixies in 2013. That gives it some bona fides when it comes to making enjoyable rides for experienced cyclists. (In addition to the Current ADV, there’s also a higher-end model, the Current EXP, with a more expensive carbon frame and better components.) Since its first venture into e-MTBs with the Ramblas in 2024, the company has continued to develop very nicely specced electric mountain bikes for the price. The designers behind the newest iterations did a masterful job. The Current ADV looks 100 percent the part of contemporary mountain bike. With its 6061 aluminum frame, SRAM Eagle groupset, tubeless-ready Maxxis Minion tires wrapping a pair of double-walled 29-inch wheels, a 170-mm X Fusion Manic dropper post, a Rockshox Psylo Gold front suspension that boasts 150 mm of travel, and a Rockshox Deluxe Select+, it’d be easy to confuse the Current ADV for a traditional analog mountain bike. What Happens When Trump Feels Cornered

What Happens When Trump Feels Cornered

This is an edition of The Atlantic Daily, a newsletter that guides you through the biggest stories of the day, helps you discover new ideas, and recommends the best in culture. Sign up for it here. In an earlier, somewhat more innocent era of Donald Trump’s social-media posting, one could still chuckle darkly at his 2017 declaration that his approach “is not Presidential – it’s MODERN DAY PRESIDENTIAL.” But as the war in Iran bogs down, his communication has far surpassed the merely bizarre and become entirely unhinged. When Trump feels cornered, I have written, he lashes out most fiercely—which might explain the wild statements and actions emanating from the White House over the past few days. The nadir (for now) was an Easter-morning Truth Social missive in which Trump threatened that “Tuesday will be Power Plant Day, and Bridge Day, all wrapped up in one, in Iran. There will be nothing like it!!! Open the Fuckin’ Strait, you crazy bastards, or you’ll be living in Hell – JUST WATCH! Praise be to Allah.” Trump …
