Navigation apps are like politics—everyone has an opinion and everyone picks a side. Having tried almost every other app in existence, I have firmly settled on Google Maps, mostly because I like its features, interface, user interaction, and deep integration with the Google ecosystem. Huawei’s new extra-wide foldable phone was revealed on Monday, and it’s already drawing comparisons to the next big thing from Apple. Little is known about the Pura X Max, teased on China’s Weibo social network, but the internet is buzzing over its uncommon proportions, wide aspect ratio and similarities with the rumored iPhone Fold expected to arrive later this year.  There are plenty of different ways to fold a phone, and tech companies have been experimenting with various configurations over the last few years. There are clamshell-style devices, like the Motorola Razr and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7, which fold like OG flip phones, shrinking down into a pocketable square. Then came taller, book-style phones that unfold to reveal larger, tablet-size displays. These days, you can even find trifold phones with two hinges. However you fold it, most foldables either start or end with the familiar candybar shape as their base. Local LLMs are great for privacy; they run locally and require no subscription. That is, until you realize they suffer the same problems their cloud counterparts do: extremely restricted safety guardrails. Safety measures online are one thing, but if you’re running your AI model locally, bypassing them should be easy, right? Turns out, it actually is. If you’ve ever gone down the local LLM rabbit hole, you must have come across abliterated models. Local LLMs have already made cloud versions obsolete for certain tasks, and once you run them without restrictions, you’ll never look at regular models the same way. What abliterated LLMs actually are Stripped-down models with their guardrails removed Yadullah Abidi / MakeUseOf AI models go through a process called RLHF or reinforced learning from human feedback before launch. This process trains the model to refuse requests it deems harmful or sensitive. If you’re reading this, there’s a good chance that your internet’s working. You’re probably using the modem that came with your internet package. Maybe you’ve added your own router to the mix. But there’s one change that has the power to revolutionize your home network and everything you connect to it. And as is so often the case with these things, it’s DNS. It’s always DNS. Normally, all of your devices, from phones to computers to smart home accessories, use the DNS servers provided by your internet service provider (ISP). Alternatively, you can choose to use DNS servers from other companies. Google and Cloudflare are some of the more popular options, and they are often faster and more reliable than the servers offered by your ISP. While Aventon is known first and foremost as an ebike brand, the company started by making fixies in 2013. That gives it some bona fides when it comes to making enjoyable rides for experienced cyclists. (In addition to the Current ADV, there’s also a higher-end model, the Current EXP, with a more expensive carbon frame and better components.) Since its first venture into e-MTBs with the Ramblas in 2024, the company has continued to develop very nicely specced electric mountain bikes for the price. The designers behind the newest iterations did a masterful job. The Current ADV looks 100 percent the part of contemporary mountain bike.
