As Sudan war enters its fourth year, Christian leaders say some signs of hope emerge

As Sudan war enters its fourth year, Christian leaders say some signs of hope emerge

NAIROBI, Kenya (RNS) — As the war in Sudan enters its fourth year Wednesday (April 15), the bombed Episcopal Church of Our Savior in Khartoum’s Omdurman constantly reminds Christians of the brutal conflict. The church that stood for 81 years is now in ashes after it was bombed in 2023. On its ruins in Sudan’s capital city, Episcopal Archbishop Ezekiel Kondo stood days before the war’s third anniversary and told Christians, “God is with the people in good times and difficult times.” “We thanked God for His protection during the three years of the war,” he said at the site where shelling in the early months of the conflict brought the church down, destroying its roof and burning everything inside – including the pews, Bibles and hymnals.  Sudan is a Muslim-majority country where only an estimated 5% of the population is Christian, according to Pew Research Center. But Kondo told RNS that over 5,000 Christians — including leaders from other denominations — had on Friday gathered at the site of the church, which was also …

Indian IT firms face subdued fourth quarter as war, AI concerns persist; weak rupee helps earnings

Indian IT firms face subdued fourth quarter as war, AI concerns persist; weak rupee helps earnings

BENGALURU, April 6 : Top Indian information technology firms are set to report another lacklustre quarter, with revenue and profit seen rising around 10 per cent year-on-year largely on a weaker rupee rather than underlying growth, seven brokerages said. Uncertainties due to wars, weak discretionary spending and concerns around artificial intelligence will keep weighing on client budgets, making the revenue forecast for the next fiscal year a key focus for investors, they added. Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys, HCLTech and other software services exporters are due to report fourth quarter results starting April 9. “We expect limited deal win surprises, patchy ex-BFSI growth and slow start to (the first half of 2027) on macro/gen AI uncertainty,” Ambit Capital analysts said in a preview note. The Indian rupee fell 4 per cent against the U.S. dollar during the March quarter, and slid to record low levels. Software services companies typically benefit as they bill in foreign currencies while incurring most costs in rupees, inflating profits when dollar revenues are converted. The $315 billion sector, employing about 5.9 …

Skeleton of D’Artagnan, the Fourth Musketeer, Found in Dutch Church

Skeleton of D’Artagnan, the Fourth Musketeer, Found in Dutch Church

The skeletal remains of the 17th-century French folk hero D’Artangnan—born: Charles de Batz de Castelmore—have perhaps been recovered after being buried under a church in the Netherlands for centuries. The floor of the church, St. Peter and Paul in Maastricht, suffered damage last month, and subsequent repair work revealed the remains. D’Artagnan, a French soldier who served under Louis XIV, rose through the ranks to eventually became a captain of the Musketeers of the Guard, an elite branch of the French military. Fans of French literature, know D’Artagnan from Alexandre Dumas’s beloved 1844 adventure novel Les Trois Mousquetaires. (If you were a child in the ‘90s, the live action Disney movie The Three Musketeers, starring Chris O’Donnell as D’Artagnan, is likely the more immediate reference point.) In both instances—and many other creative retellings of the story over the years—a character named D’Artagnan leaves home and is befriended by Musketeers named Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, who take D’Artagnan under their wing. Trump threatens Iran’s power plants as war enters fourth week with no end in sight : NPR

We have the latest on the U-S and Israeli war on Iran, where in the past 48 hours, Israel has struck one of Iran’s nuclear facilities and Iran has responded with strikes in Israel. AYESHA RASCOE, HOST: The war in Iran has moved into its fourth week with all sides appearing to ramp up threats and attacks. President Trump issued new warnings late Saturday that the U.S. will, quote, “obliterate” Iran’s power plants if the Strait of Hormuz waterway is not open to international traffic within 48 hours. Iran doesn’t appear to be deterred by the threats. It launched a new wave of airstrikes in Israel starting last night, with missiles striking two cities near Israel’s nuclear research center. More than 100 people have been injured. For more now, we go to NPR’s Carrie Kahn who’s in the Israeli city of Arad, where one of the Iranian missiles hit. Carrie, welcome. CARRIE KAHN, BYLINE: Hi. Good morning. RASCOE: So can you tell us what you’re seeing there? KAHN: Sure. I’m in the south of Israel, …
