Kremlin Hails Putin Invite To G20 Summit In Miami, After Trump Said His Presence ‘Very Helpful’

The G20 Miami summit is set to take place at Trump National Doral Golf Course and will focus on “unleashing economic prosperity by eliminating burdensome regulations, unlocking affordable energy and pioneering new technologies,” according to President Trump’s words.  Amazingly and quite surprisingly, the Russian Foreign Ministry has announced Russia has been invited to take part “at the highest level” – meaning President Vladimir Putin has been invited, per the Kremlin. The actual date is still far away, slated for Dec. 14-15, 2026. Here’s what the Washington Post freshly reported: The United States intends to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the Group of 20 leaders’ …

Cardinal Dolan, interfaith coalition press Trump to add religion forum to 2026 G20

(RNS) — A group of faith leaders, including several prominent conservatives, is pushing the Trump administration to formally include a religion engagement group within the Group of 20 summit, to be hosted at Trump’s golf club in the Miami area next December. In November, over 80 leaders, led by New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan; Rabbi Abraham Cooper, associate dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center; former Vatican ambassador Mary Ann Glendon; and First Liberty Institute President Kelly Shackelford, sent President Donald Trump a letter urging him to build on his legacy as “a stalwart defender of peace and international religious freedom” and direct his administration “to officially recognize the Religion 20 Summit (R20) as part of America’s presidency of the G20 in 2026.” The G20 intergovernmental forum was formed in 1999 to address global economic issues, comprising 21 member with large economies, including the U.S., European Union, China and Russia. Its presidency rotates each year. The first time a religion forum, known as the R20, was incorporated into the formal program of the G20 was in …

G20 fails to deliver on sovereign debt distress | Debt News

Heads of state from the world’s most powerful countries gathered in Johannesburg, South Africa, over the weekend for a summit that had been billed, under South Africa’s G20 presidency, as a turning point for addressing debt distress across the Global South. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa had consistently framed the issue as central to his agenda, arguing that spiralling repayment costs have left governments, particularly in Africa, with little room to fund essential services like healthcare and education. Hopes that world leaders would use the G20 summit to tackle sovereign debt distress were further dashed when United States President Donald Trump, at odds with South Africa over domestic policies, skipped the meeting altogether amid Washington’s retreat from multilateralism. The summit also marked the close of a brief period of Global South …

The PM added he thought it was “really important to be [at the G20] to talk to other partners and allies so we can get on with the discussions around global issues that have to be addressed, and do have an impact back at home, but also to take the opportunity face to face to further the deals that I want to do for our country”. Macron in Africa in bid to turn the page on French setbacks in the Sahel

French President Emmanuel Macron intends to make good on his pledge to reorient France’s approach to Africa through a five-day tour this week that will take him to Mauritius, the G20 summit in South Africa, Gabon and Angola.   The aim is to turn the page on French setbacks in Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, after the military juntas in these countries severed defence agreements with Paris and forced the withdrawal of French troops in 2022 and 2023.   The withdrawals confirmed the decline of former colonial power France in Africa against a backdrop of rising anti-French sentiment and increased competition on the continent from Russia and China.  Read more‘Time to move on’: France faces gradual decline of influence in Africa The French president’s trip aims to revitalise France’s relationship with Africa, according to the Élysée Palace, and confirm a break from France’s colonial legacy – something Macron had spoken about early in his first term.   “I am from a generation that doesn’t come to tell Africans what to do,” Macron, then 39, said during a speech to students in Burkina Faso’s capital Ouagadougou in 2017.  “I will be alongside those who believe that Africa is neither a lost continent nor one that has been saved,” he said.  However, eight years later, the situation …
