GM suspends next-gen electric truck indefinitely as it retreats to gas

General Motors has indefinitely suspended plans to refresh its full-size electric truck and SUV lineup, putting the future of the Chevrolet Silverado EV, GMC Sierra EV, Hummer EV, and Cadillac Escalade IQ in limbo beyond the current generation. The move marks yet another retreat from GM’s once-ambitious electric vehicle strategy, as the automaker doubles down on gas-powered trucks instead. GM shelves 2028 electric truck refresh According to a report from Crain’s Detroit Business, GM was planning to update its full-size electric lineup in 2028, including introducing lower-cost variants of several models to expand market share. Those plans have now been delayed indefinitely. When asked about the decision, GM declined to elaborate, stating only that it has “not disclosed any potential plans or timing for any next-generation battery electric trucks” and that it would not “engage in speculation.” Advertisement – scroll for more content The news comes on the heels of a brutal stretch for GM’s EV division. Yes, an EV really CAN power your home – if it’s one of these

Can an EV really help power your home when the power goes out? It’s one of the biggest FAQs people have about electric cars — but the answer can be a bit confusing. It’s either a yes, with a but – or a no, with an unless. To find out which EVs can offer vehicle-to-home (V2H) tech to keep the lights on or even lower your energy bills, keep on reading. UPDATE 17FEB2026: take your pick – EVERY current EV from GM makes the list! Modern EVs have big, efficient batteries capable of storing enough energy to power home for days. That can mean backup power during a storm or the ability to use stored energy during expensive peak hours and recharge again when kilowatts are cheap. That’s all true – but only in theory. Because, while your EV might have a big battery, that doesn’t mean it has the special hardware and software that allow electricity to safely flow back out of the car baked in. Car companies call this vehicle-to-home (V2H) or bi-directional charging, and only a …

The FTC’s data-sharing order against GM is finally settled

The Federal Trade Commission said Wednesday it has finalized an order that bans General Motors and its OnStar telematics service from sharing certain consumer data with consumer reporting agencies. The finalized order, which comes a year after the agency reached a proposed settlement with GM, also requires the automaker to be more transparent with its consumers and obtain their explicit consent on any data collection. The finalized order comes nearly two years after a New York Times report showed how GM and OnStar collected, used, and sold drivers’ precise geolocation data and driving behavior to third parties, including data brokers LexisNexis and Verisk. The data was collected through GM’s Smart Driver program, a free feature contained within its connected car apps that tracked and rated driving behaviors and seatbelt use. Data brokers sold this information to insurance providers, which could affect customers’ rates, the NYT reported at the time. GM discontinued the Smart Driver program in April 2024 across all of its brands, citing customer feedback. GM said at the time it unenrolled all customers …
