Shetland season 11 gets major update from BBC as guest stars confirmed

Filming has started on the 11th season of Shetland, with stars Ashley Jensen and Alison O’Donnell returning to their roles as DI Ruth Calder and DI Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh. The BBC has confirmed that series regulars Steven Robertson (DC Sandy Wilson), Samuel Anderson (Procurator Fiscal Matt Blake), Steven Miller (Rev Alan Calder), Anne Kidd (pathologist Cora McLean), Angus Miller (Tosh’s partner Donnie), Conor McCarry (PC Alex Grant) and Eubha Akilade (PC Lorna Burns) are back for the new episodes, which will film in Scotland and the Shetland Isles over the next few months. Based on the novels by Ann Cleeves, each season of Shetland focuses on one crime that Ruth’s team has to solve, and season 11 will be no exception. The synopsis says that “the forthcoming new series centres around an …

Just so you know, HuffPost UK may collect a share of sales or other compensation from the links on this page if you decide to shop from them. Oh, and FYI — prices are accurate and items in stock as of time of publication. It’s wedding season again! Yay (or nay, depending how you look at it). There’s nothing more stressful than navigating overly-complicated wedding dress codes. You can’t wear white (famously), some say you can’t wear black or red, and apparently green is off limits in some circles, too. Not to mention that you have to factor in whether you’re going to be among the same group of friends as previous years of weddings past. Add to that the number of separate ceremonies you have to dress for this year, and their respective weather and locations, and you have yourself a sartorial minefield. The good news is that no one cares about what you’re wearing as much …

In 2018, pictures of Owens, 63, scanning groceries at a New Jersey Trader Joe’s store circulated online. He recently explained at Sunday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards that he took the job during a period of “unemployment and debt” in an attempt to “hang in there with my [acting] career.” It seems the actor’s perseverance has paid off, as he landed a guest-starring role on next week’s episode of HBO Max’s Emmy-winning medical drama, The Pitt, as Dr. Clay Barrett, a cardiothoracic surgeon. If the invite reads a little vague, a little fashion (something like “creative formal”) and you have no idea where to start, the easy win is Lemaire. A dry silk double-breasted jacket with matching trousers brings that signature Lemare drape—fluid, understated, and expensive looking. Don’t be surprised if you upstage the groom a little. During Wednesday’s segment of the talk show, Eisen addressed the director of the National Counterterrorism Center’s recent decision to step down from his post. Joe Kent announced his resignation on X, writing he could not “in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran” because Iran posed “no imminent threat to our nation.” He added that it was “clear” that the U.S. war on Iran had been started “due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.” Reacting to Kent’s message, Eisen said: “I think it’s disrespectful and wrong to …

Opera Is Booming in Asia (Guest Column)

Opera Is Booming in Asia (Guest Column)

Before I even read about the Timothée Chalamet controversy, I was getting messages from all over the world asking if I had any opinion about it. After all, I’ve been spending the last couple of decades working full time on expanding the reach of opera, in a place far from the centers of the operatic cosmos. Surely I must be personally affronted by such a casual dismissal of my life’s work! The thing is, although it’s a bit much to say that “no one” is interested in opera, statistics would seem to indicate that world-wide the audience is shrinking — just like the audience for non-blockbuster cinema.  But where I am, it’s not shrinking. When I returned to Thailand almost thirty years ago, there was virtually no opera to speak of here, but now there’s a bit of a scene. Opera Siam, the company I founded, has had its setbacks, but continues to produce both classic and new works. It has now been joined by a plethora of more specialized companies and, most recently, by a “youth …
