Palantir Employees Are Starting to Wonder if They’re the Bad Guys

Palantir Employees Are Starting to Wonder if They’re the Bad Guys

It took just a few months of President Donald Trump’s second term for Palantir employees to question their company’s commitments to civil liberties. Last fall, Palantir seemed to become the technological backbone of Trump’s immigration enforcement machinery, providing software identifying, tracking, and helping deport immigrants on behalf of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), when current and former employees started ringing the alarm. Around that time, two former employees reconnected by phone. Right as they picked up the call, one of them asked, “Are you tracking Palantir’s descent into fascism?” “That was their greeting,” the other former employee says. “There’s this feeling not of ‘Oh, this is unpopular and hard,’ but, ‘This feels wrong.’” Palantir was founded—with initial venture capital investment from the CIA—at a moment of national consensus following the September 11, 2001 attacks, when many saw fighting terrorism abroad as the most critical mission facing the US. The company, which was cofounded by tech billionaire Peter Thiel, sells software that acts as a high-powered data aggregation and analysis tool powering everything from private …

The ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Guys Looked Great in 2006

The ‘Devil Wears Prada’ Guys Looked Great in 2006

On Monday night, The Devil Wears Prada 2 premiered in New York. As you might expect, the red carpet was awash with plenty of spectacular fashion—Meryl’s Givenchy cape!—but the menswear on display was, well, just fine. Stanley Tucci, who’s returning in the sequel as Nigel Kipling, looked sharp as ever in a form-fitting velvet sport coat and charcoal slacks, but that was, ultimately, the only highlight. (TDWP, after all, is the rare blockbuster franchise not aimed squarely at a male audience.) But it did have us looking back with a little yearning at the simple, sexy looks worn by men on the original film’s press circuit in 2006. Back in that era, before celebrity styling had grown into the high-stakes game of chess it is today, there was far more room for spontaneity, personal taste, and plain old fun on the red carpet. Take Adrian Grenier, for example, who played Andy’s much-maligned boyfriend Nate in the first movie (and is not, to the cheers of many fans, back for the follow-up). At the movie’s New …

Guys Are Wearing Slutty Little Reading Glasses Now

Jack Harlow at the New York premiere of Marty Supreme. John Nacion/Getty Images In a recent viral Saturday Night Live segment, cast member Ben Marshall impersonated Harlow at the Weekend Update desk, looking the part by donning rimless shades and a slightly askew Kangol cap, two accessories the Kentucky rapper has taken to wearing in recent months. Among the many discussions drawn by Harlow’s attire and affect, especially regarding his latest album, Monica, one that has bubbled to the surface—and was referenced on SNL—was a comment he made on an episode of the New York Times podcast Popcast. “I got Blacker,” said Harlow, who is white. That quote and his recent schtick of wearing Cartier reading glasses—a style staple of ’90s and early-aughts hip-hop—has raised eyebrows. As seen back then on the likes of Tupac Shakur, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Master P, and LL Cool J, such readers looked indisputably suave and provocative; on those attempting to syphon that swagger with little claim to it, the style choice can come off a little contrived. Costume-y. But, …

Famous Guys Also Love Light-Jacket Season

Famous Guys Also Love Light-Jacket Season

Like cherry blossom season, the window for lightweight outerwear is fleeting. If you’re lucky, you might get two weeks of the sublime 50-to-70 degree spring weather that’s just right for stepping out in all those breezy, beautiful jackets currently lining your closet—from leather bikers and nylon bombers to flowy trenches, linen blazers, and beyond. That brief window is now open. And plenty of the best-dressed guys in Hollywood are already seizing the interseasonal moment. Earlier this week, at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Dune: Part Three’s Timothée Chalamet—no stranger to advanced-level outerwear—pulled up to the Warner Bros. presentation in an earthy suede bomber jacket paired with a black hoodie and a pair of service boots from the Japanese label Visvim. Chalamet’s co-star Jason Momoa, meanwhile, stayed true to his biker roots in a polished leather trucker jacket. (Both of them were ultimately outshone by Zendaya, who was clad in a sculptural Schiaparelli skirt suit.) Adam Scott, who was also at the star-studded convention to promote Boots Riley’s I Love Boosters, struck a preppier note in a …

9 Tips for Guys with Psoriasis and Other Skin Conditions

9 Tips for Guys with Psoriasis and Other Skin Conditions

7) Easy Does It Skip the scalding water. Prioritize lukewarm H2O instead, as Dr. Miller warns that hot showers worsen all three conditions. When it’s time to towel off, pat (rather than rub) yourself dry. “Friction alone can trigger irritation or breakdown of the skin barrier,” he says. 8) Scale Things Back During a Flare “Across all three conditions, the biggest mistake I see is overcomplicating routines,” says Dr. Miller. When you’re in the thick of inflammation, pare things down and stick to a simple skincare routine: a cleanser, your prescribed treatment (if you have one), moisturizer, and SPF in the daytime. Dr. Miller also advises against using exfoliants, retinoids, and new products, all of which can make a bad situation worse. The one exception to this rule is if you have psoriasis. “If tolerated, keratolytic ingredients like salicylic acid can help remove surface scales,” he says. 9) Consult a Derm While the tips and tricks above can reduce flare-ups, make your skin feel more comfortable, and improve your appearance, know when it’s time to …

Robert Pattinson Wore Menswear Guys’ Favorite Shoe in ‘The Drama’

Robert Pattinson Wore Menswear Guys’ Favorite Shoe in ‘The Drama’

If you know anything about me, you’ll know that I’m, first and foremost, a sneaker guy. I can ID a pair from across the street just by the shape of the tongue or the panel layout or the way the sole’s cut. My lovely editor Mahalia Chang calls my talent “scary,” which I choose to take as a compliment. But as much as I’m into trainers, I can also appreciate a good non-sneaker shoe. And one of the best non-sneaker shoes out there is the Paraboot Michael—the same one that Robert Pattinson happens to wear in The Drama. In the A24 movie, Pattinson’s character, Charlie, isn’t exactly what you’d call a high-fashion guy. He’s a museum director who clearly prioritizes comfort over anything else. He’s in Patagonia raincoats most of the time, worn over washed-out checkered shirts or open-collar button-ups with the tails hanging out. His glasses look like they’ve been worn down over years of actual use. Even his sneakers—a pair of Asics GT-2160s—are more about cushioning than clout. And his go-to backpack? An …

‘You Guys Look Great’: Artemis Astronauts Share Earth’s Out-of-This-World Views

It’s been more than 50 years since NASA astronaut Harrison Schmitt took the famous Big Blue Marble photograph, showing a breathtaking vision of Earth taken aboard the Apollo 17 spacecraft on its way to the moon. Now, as the four-astronaut crew of the Artemis II mission heads toward the moon, more spectacular images are being released. This stunning photo is perhaps the most reminiscent of the Big Blue Marble, showing Earth in all its fragile, lovely glory. “That’s us!” NASA wrote in a post. The post also quoted astronaut Christina Koch as saying of Earth, “You guys look great.” In a reply to questions on the post, NASA wrote, “Two auroras (top right and bottom left) are visible in this image. Zodiacal light (bottom right), is also visible, as well as airglow from Earth’s atmosphere.” Another neat photo from the Artemis mission shows the planet neatly bisected, with one side lit up by the sun and the other in darkness. This image of the Earth was taken by one of the Artemis II crew out …

Raule / Getty Images Jacob Elordi’s got a great mane (and some seriously good facial hair when he wants to grow it) but presumably when he’s not feeling his hair that day, he’s oft to reach for a hat from Paly. The …

Why Stylish Guys Are Swapping Their Sneakers and Boots for Approach Shoes

Why Stylish Guys Are Swapping Their Sneakers and Boots for Approach Shoes

It’s not just the big players. Smaller indie brands are approaching the category from a completely different angle. Paris-based label Village PM, for example, has taken cues from climbing footwear and applied them directly to skateboarding. “What interested us was the functionality,” says co-founder Bram De Cleen. “Climbing shoes let you feel exactly what you’re doing, while still being extremely tough.” That combo translates neatly onto a skateboard, where the feel of the board and durability matter more than anything else. “The first thing we transferred from climbing footwear was a very precise, asymmetrical fit,” he says. “Extended lacing comes in to assist that precision fit—helping with what we call lockdown, the feeling that your foot is held securely by the shoe.” The Village PM team also developed its own rubber compound inspired by climbing rubber, built to be soft, grippy, and hard-wearing. Keen, on the other hand, has been doing this for decades. The Jasper, first introduced in 2008, has become one of the most recognizable approach shoes around, worn by every big streetwear …

In Stanford Show, Miljohn Ruperto Trolls the Death Drive of AI Guys

As I stood in front of a black screen, a luminous alien creature with five legs and translucent antennae appeared. After a minute, it morphed into an isopod with larger, more articulated limbs. Fathoms (Tartarapelagic), 2025–26, by Miljohn Ruperto, uses AI to generate otherworldly creatures like these, all based on species recently discovered in the Pacific Ocean’s Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ). But there’s a dark irony: the extensive mining of manganese, nickel, copper, and cobalt in the CCZ—minerals essential for AI technology—have endangered the lives of the actual species. Related Articles Nearly every billboard on the road into Palo Alto—where Ruperto’s work is on view at Stanford’s Cantor Arts Center—advertises a different AI tool. There, Ruperto suggests that to know is partly to destroy. “I think of it as a moral position,” Ruperto said, when I asked him about this bind. “The current moment is directing us towards fractured individuation, and I want to show our entanglement, “ he explained—adding, with a smile, “It’s OK to be entangled.” He’s also showing a reanimation of a mile-high, …
