Seven years after his tragic passing, you can still feel Nipsey Hussle’s presence all over Los Angeles. You’ll hear his music booming in the arena at a Lakers game, see his face on countless murals across the city. Go to a rap show here, and the artist almost certainly drop a “Rest in peace, Nip” from the stage. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., on Tuesday slammed Democrats for conditioning Homeland Security Department funding on a requirement that federal immigration agents must obtain judicial warrants to carry out key enforcement activities. Johnson, in an interview on CNBC’s “Squawk Box,” called that proposal “completely unworkable.” But it’s Democrats’ top demand for funding DHS, which is set to lose funding by the week’s end if Congress can’t pass an appropriations bill. Johnson said he hopes Congress can pass another stopgap measure to buy time, but suggested Democrats have been unreasonable in negotiations so far. “They want to defund DHS just like they want to defund police,” Johnson said of his political opponents. DHS includes the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, whose deportation efforts have grown especially controversial after an aggressive surge in Minnesota stirred national unrest. A bucket of liquid plastic that never hardens sounds like a fantasy in a factory. It is also the kind of problem that drives real-world waste, delays, and safety risks. Chemists at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev say they found a new way around it, and they did it by moving the “on switch” into the material itself. Their work, describes a “smart” polymer system designed to stay quiet for weeks, then harden only when you decide. The team says the approach could simplify industrial curing, 3D printing, and repairs while cutting energy use and reducing risky handling. For decades, many researchers tried to control curing by designing “sleeping” catalysts. Those catalysts sit dormant until triggered by heat, light, or another signal. But they can be finicky, costly, and hard to work with. The Ben-Gurion team flipped the idea. They built the sleeping behavior into the plastic building blocks instead.
