In a new interview with People, Bollea reflected on his grief and said Hogan “was just always so positive, and he was so full of life. It’s almost like disbelief that it happened, because he was just always talking about how grateful he was for that day and excited for the next day and to see the sunrise.” He added: “The hardest part is never being able to fully prepare for something like that.” The 35-year-old explained that as well as being business partners, the pair worked out together and shared a nutritional plan. “There were so many different …

The Ukrainian in Hungary Who Has Europe’s Hardest Job

The Ukrainian in Hungary Who Has Europe’s Hardest Job

It’s not easy being Fedir Shandor, the Ukrainian ambassador to Hungary. His host country is holding elections next month, and the prime minister, Viktor Orbán, has made his whole campaign about Ukraine. Specifically, Orbán is asking voters to believe that Hungary risks becoming a Ukrainian colony, and that he’s the only person standing in the way of Volodymyr Zelensky drafting them into the fight against Russia. That might sound far-fetched, but Hungary occupies an awkward position as the most reliable Russian ally inside Europe. Its election is making things weirder, and more sinister: Orbán’s government has tried to paint the main domestic opposition party as a Ukrainian front, accusing Kyiv of carrying out a hostile operation designed to depose Hungary’s leader. So when the ambassador agreed to meet with me over the weekend, at a pastry shop on the outskirts of Budapest, I expected him to disguise himself in some way, or perhaps to talk in hushed tones and skirt sensitive topics. I was not prepared for the tank of a man who came careening …

Reform UK eye historic upset to hit Labour where it would hit hardest | Politics | News

Over the weekend Reform UK launched its big London election campaign in Fairfield Halls Croydon, saying it was confident of winning councils in the capital for the first time. Council elections will be held across London this May, with Reform confident of doing especially well in outer eastern boroughs, such as Bexley, Bromley and Havering. Labour cannot rest easy. Sir Keir Starmer’s party is also set to loss out to the Greens in much of inner London, with the Tories pretty much cast into irrelevance. London may not seem natural Reform turf. Still, Londoners are at the forefront of Labour-Tory open borders catastrophe, as well as the lackadaisical attitude towards crime. Hence Laila Cunningham’s confidence of being competitive in the 2028 London mayoral election as the capital faces mugging and shoplifting scum, and ongoing social decay. Predictably, Nigel Farage faced hecklers at Reform’s big event in Croydon, a part of London which has declined monumentally over the last thirty or so years. In London and other major cities Reform of course needs to make a …

how others have fared in the hardest job in UK media

how others have fared in the hardest job in UK media

Matt Brittin has been named the new director general of the BBC. He joins the broadcaster after almost two decades working at Google: he was its president in Europe, the Middle East and Africa before leaving in 2024. He is already on the board of the Guardian Media Group. The director general is the most senior executive at the BBC. The first director general was John Reith (later Lord Reith), a near legendary figure who dominated the organisation during its foundational period in the 1920s and 1930s. Reith played a key role in establishing broadcasting in Britain and creating the BBC. He had an obsession with controlling all elements of the BBC’s work and was determined to increase his own power at the expense of subordinates and of the BBC’s board of governors. Reith made the director general the most powerful office in the BBC. That power has since been diluted over the decades, but in theory the director general still has oversight of all the varied aspects of the BBC’s work. They must also …

The hardest question to answer about AI-fueled delusions

The hardest question to answer about AI-fueled delusions

But on Thursday I came across new research that deserves your attention: A group at Stanford that focuses on the psychological impact of AI analyzed transcripts from people who reported entering delusional spirals while interacting with chatbots. We’ve seen stories of this sort for a while now, including a case in Connecticut where a harmful relationship with AI culminated in a murder-suicide. Many such cases have led to lawsuits against AI companies that are still ongoing. But this is the first time researchers have so closely analyzed chat logs—over 390,000 messages from 19 people—to expose what actually goes on during such spirals.  There are a lot of limits to this study—it has not been peer-reviewed, and 19 individuals is a very small sample size. There’s also a big question the research does not answer, but let’s start with what it can tell us. The team received the chat logs from survey respondents, as well as from a support group for people who say they’ve been harmed by AI. To analyze them at scale, they worked …

The Hardest Part Of Getting Older Isn’t Physical Aging — It’s These 5 Heartbreaking Realizations

The Hardest Part Of Getting Older Isn’t Physical Aging — It’s These 5 Heartbreaking Realizations

I turned 40 this month. It’s weird. At 40, I figured I’d look a bit older than I do. When I was a kid, I also figured I would magically become capable of dressing preppy and having it look normal on me. Unfortunately, it never did. There are certain things people warned me about getting older: feeling creaky, not being able to drink as much, and not wanting to stay up all night, to name a few. However, the hardest part of getting older isn’t physical aging because you never get the full story until it happens to you. These realizations can be tougher to grapple with than the physical side of getting older. The hardest part of getting older isn’t physical aging — it’s these 5 heartbreaking realizations: 1. Realizing you were wrong about some people Rido via Shutterstock As you get older, the type of people you respect changes. Time has a very weird way of letting the truth out and shining a light on a person’s true character. A good example of …

Women Without Kids Have The Hardest Time Succeeding At Work

Women Without Kids Have The Hardest Time Succeeding At Work

A career coach named Brooke Taylor explained that women without kids have the hardest time succeeding at work because they’re the most flexible, which means they are always picking up the slack. There’s always been a common assumption that women without kids have a much easier time in the workplace. Without the demands of juggling both childcare and their work responsibilities, they are free to dedicate themselves to their professional success. But Taylor argued that women without kids are actually fighting a constantly losing battle because they are expected to do the work of their co-workers with kids, and they aren’t getting any benefits for it. Women without kids have the hardest time succeeding at work because they are more flexible. Career coach Brooke Taylor explained that childfree women don’t actually have it the easiest at work. In fact, the reason they have such a hard time succeeding at work is their perceived “free time” because they don’t have any kids at home to take care of. “Childless women are the people who have the …

I’m 64 And The Hardest Truth I’ve Ever Had To Accept Is That My Own Mother Told Me My Life Meant Nothing To Her

I’m 64 And The Hardest Truth I’ve Ever Had To Accept Is That My Own Mother Told Me My Life Meant Nothing To Her

I have a toxic mother. After receiving a breakup letter from my mother, I waited for about a month and called her. I should have waited two months, or maybe I should have started our break from each other right then and there. She began the conversation by saying it was sometimes necessary to get really angry at someone and went on to describe how she had marched into the dentist’s office and yelled at Fleur, the dentist’s wife, and the head receptionist. I’m not sure why my mom was so angry, but it’s an emotion she’s very comfortable with. I’m 64, and the hardest truth I’ve ever had to accept is that my own mother told me my life meant nothing to her Creative Family via Shutterstock My mother will plead old age if she forgets someone’s name or can’t read the restaurant bill, but she makes no excuses for expressing her anger. She thinks that she’s earned the right (by getting old) to speak her mind, no matter how hurtful it might be. …

Wrexham give Chelsea ‘hardest game of season’ but cannot find Hollywood ending

Wrexham give Chelsea ‘hardest game of season’ but cannot find Hollywood ending

Wrexham host Premier League Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round tonight in the biggest fixture at the Racecourse Ground since Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds became owners almost five years ago. The Welsh side have surged from English football’s fifth tier to the second with three successive promotions and are now lying sixth in the Championship, pushing for a place in the Premier League via the play-offs. Wrexham went into administration in 2004, and for years the club survived on volunteer labour. A week before the season kicked off, fans would turn up to paint, sweep and fix locks on the turnstiles. They toppled Nottingham Forest earlier in their FA Cup run, but facing eight-time winners Chelsea is another step up in class. Liam Rosenior has only lost three games since taking over at Stamford Bridge, all of them to Arsenal, but Wednesday’s 4-1 victory over Aston Villa was a marker of progress after some sloppy dropped points. Chelsea will be mindful of a Champions League last-16 tie against PSG this week, as well …
