Teenager who brutally killed mum with hammer in hours-long attack is jailed | UK | News

A teenager who brutally killed his mother by repeatedly beating her with a hammer has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 22 years and six months. Tristan Roberts, 18, killed his mum, Angela Shellis, 45, after forcing her to wear a balaclava and walking her to a footpath beside a nature reserve. The horrific attack, which the prosecution said Roberts had planned for weeks, started at his and his mum’s house in Prestatyn, North Wales, on October 24 last year. Mold Crown Court heard on Wednesday how Roberts attacked and strangled his mum while she was initially conscious. He even recorded parts of the attack, which the prosecution said were believed to be some “form of trophy”. At one stage, Roberts can be heard saying in the recording: “This is the moment we are doing it. We are going to hit her with a sledgehammer.” After the initial attack, Ms Shellis firmly and calmly asked her son to phone the police as she realised what her son was planning to do, the …

Hours-Long Netanyahu Meeting Concludes Away From Cameras, Trump Committed To Iran Talks

Update(1443ET): President Trump met with Netanyahu for a reported 3-hours at the White on Wednesday, away from the cameras and with no press briefings either before or after. Trump later indicated that nothing definitive was reached on the Iran matter other than “I insisted that negotiations with Iran continue.” “If it can, I let the Prime Minister know that will be a preference. If it cannot, we will just have to see what the outcome will be,” he stated in a Truth Social post. “Last time Iran decided that they were better off not making a Deal, and they were hit with Midnight Hammer — That did not work well for them. Hopefully this time they will be more reasonable and responsible.” It was expected that Netanyahu would seek a muscular US approach to Tehran, and Israel has essentially been against even holding negotiations, charging that Tehran is using the process to stall and development nuclear weapons, and to expand its missile arsenal. Israeli leadership has time and again complained it’s a waste of time. …

Iran reopens airspace after hours-long shutdown spooks airlines

Security forces are seen during a pro-government rally on Jan. 12, 2026 in Tehran, Iran. Getty Images | Getty Images News | Getty Images Iran reopened its airspace early Thursday after a temporary closure that barred most incoming and outgoing flights for several hours amid concerns the U.S. could carry out military strikes, raising risks for airlines. The restriction, which ended at 3:30 a.m UTC, or 10:30 p.m. EST Wednesday, was in place for 5 hours. Live data from flight tracker FlightRadar24 showed most aircraft still skirting Iranian airspace as of 4 a.m. UTC, though some domestic carriers had begun resuming flights. The initial order exempted international flights to and from Tehran, provided they received prior approval from Iran’s civil aviation authority. The airspace closure comes as tensions escalated after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened intervention following a deadly crackdown on anti-government protests in Iran. Trump has publicly said he would “come to the rescue” of Iranian protestors if the violent crackdown continued. The U.S. has begun relocating some personnel and equipment from American military …
