Everything Nigel Farage’s critics get wrong about Reform UK deportation plan | Politics | News

Never mind comparisons with Donald Trump, as someone who lives in Singapore, I can confidently say nothing Nigel Farage announced yesterday would look out of place here or in the other developed democracies of Asia. Yesterday the Reform chief announced asylum claims going back years would be reviewed with the possibility of over 400,000 folks being deported. The only difference is – unlike the enfeebled countries of the West – Asia would never have got itself into this mess to start with. No ECHR here, friends. As for the 1951 Refugee Convention Reform wants Britain to leave, Singapore isn’t even a signatory. Japan is. But Japan defines a refugee so narrowly it barely takes any in. These nations have strong borders and strong law enforcement. Sod the freedom to screech like a banshee, real freedom is being able to walk alone at 3am in total safety. That you can in Seoul, Singapore, Taipei and Tokyo (and, to some extent, in Budapest and Warsaw). Now try London, New York and Paris. See the difference? Tough on …

Reform UK eye historic upset to hit Labour where it would hit hardest | Politics | News

Over the weekend Reform UK launched its big London election campaign in Fairfield Halls Croydon, saying it was confident of winning councils in the capital for the first time. Council elections will be held across London this May, with Reform confident of doing especially well in outer eastern boroughs, such as Bexley, Bromley and Havering. Labour cannot rest easy. Sir Keir Starmer’s party is also set to loss out to the Greens in much of inner London, with the Tories pretty much cast into irrelevance. London may not seem natural Reform turf. Still, Londoners are at the forefront of Labour-Tory open borders catastrophe, as well as the lackadaisical attitude towards crime. Hence Laila Cunningham’s confidence of being competitive in the 2028 London mayoral election as the capital faces mugging and shoplifting scum, and ongoing social decay. Predictably, Nigel Farage faced hecklers at Reform’s big event in Croydon, a part of London which has declined monumentally over the last thirty or so years. In London and other major cities Reform of course needs to make a …

Border czar Tom Homan speaks during a news conference about ongoing immigration enforcement operations, in Minneapolis, Jan. 29, 2026. Scott Olson | Getty Images U.S. border czar Tom Homan on Thursday said federal immigration enforcement agencies are working on a plan to reduce their massive presence in Minnesota, while broadly acknowledging problems with the Trump administration’s activities there. “I’m not here because the federal government has carried its mission out perfectly,” Homan said at a press conference in Minneapolis, where an aggressive surge in federal deportation efforts has stoked major civil unrest. Homan said he and President Donald Trump, “along with others in the administration, have recognized that certain improvements could and should be made.” Trump on Monday sent Homan to Minneapolis to manage U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s operations. The announcement came two days after federal agents killed a second U.S. citizen, Alex Pretti, in the city during altercations that were caught on camera. Homan on Thursday said he is in conversation with state and local officials, including Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor …

ICE slammed by Minnesota judge after contempt threat

Todd Lyons, acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, speaks during a press conference about “Operation Midway Blitz,” an immigration enforcement campaign, at a hangar in Gary, Indiana, Oct. 30, 2025. Leah Millis | Reuters A top Minnesota federal court judge on Wednesday blasted the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency for violating nearly 100 court orders in the past month. “This list should give pause to anyone — no matter his or her political beliefs — who cares about the rule of law,” Minneapolis U.S. District Court Chief Judge Patrick Schiltz wrote in a new court filing. “ICE has likely violated more court orders in January 2026 than some federal agencies have violated in their entire existence,” said Schiltz, who earlier this week said he would hold a hearing where acting ICE Director Todd Lyons would have to explain why the judge should not hold him in contempt of court for repeatedly violating judicial orders. The judge warned that future noncompliance by ICE with federal judicial orders could result in his ordering acting ICE …
