Earth in rear-view of Artemis II astronauts | Space News

Published On 5 Apr 20265 Apr 2026 Artemis II astronauts have crossed the halfway point between Earth and the moon as they race towards a planned lunar flyby, and NASA has released the first images of Earth captured from inside the Orion spacecraft. As the astronauts settled down to sleep early on Sunday after rounding off the fourth day of their 10-day mission, they were nearly 322,000km (200,000 miles) from Earth and 132,000km (82,000 miles) from the moon, according to NASA’s online dashboard. The United States space agency published photographs taken from the capsule, including a full view of Earth showing a glowing orb of deep blue oceans and swirling clouds. The four-person crew is expected to swing around the far side of the moon early this coming week, a manoeuvre not attempted in more than 50 years. The next major milestone in the journey is expected overnight from Sunday into Monday US time when the crew is due to enter what NASA calls the “lunar sphere of influence”, the point at which the moon’s …

Snow-covered hills surround the Iranian side of the frontier at the Kapikoy border gate in Turkiye’s Van province, where families and lone travellers emerge, many after days on the road. Hundreds have crossed in recent days, and there is now a steady flow in both directions as the US-Israel war on Iran expands across the region. Some say they fled because bombs were falling on their cities. Others decided to leave after losing contact with loved ones, travelling by land when flights were cancelled. Egyptian factory worker Mohammad Fauzi, 46, crossed from Iran with no Turkish SIM card, no local currency and no knowledge of the language. He only had the phone numbers …

Iran’s oil distribution company said four of its employees were killed in the blitz, as a dark haze hung over the city on Sunday and the smell of burning oil lingered in the air. Saturday’s strikes triggered large fires after hitting four oil storage facilities and an oil transfer and production centre in Tehran and neighbouring Alborz province, the Fars news agency reported. Iranian state media described the incident as an “attack from the US and the Zionist regime”. The facilities targeted were the Aghdasieh oil warehouse in northeast Tehran, the Tehran refinery in the south, the Shahran oil depot in the west, and an oil depot in the city of Karaj. Witnesses said oil from the Shahran depot had leaked into nearby streets. Israel …

The cause of the blaze on Tuesday morning was not immediately unclear. The fire has “so far resulted in no injuries”, Tehran emergency services operations commander Mohammad Behnia said. The blaze started at a market in the Jannat Abad neighbourhood in the west of the capital, an area packed with stalls and shops, state television quoted the city’s fire department as saying. “The fire is extensive, to the extent that it is visible from various parts of Tehran,” Fire Department spokesman Jalal Maleki said. Maleki later said the blaze had been “brought under control” and that “smoke removal and spot-check operations” were under way, according to Iran’s official IRNA news agency. At least 10 people die, million without power as winter storm grips US | Weather News

A monster storm barrelling across the United States has killed at least 10 people and prompted warnings to stay off the roads, mass flight cancellations and widespread power cuts as freezing conditions persisted into Monday. At least 20 states and the US capital, Washington, DC, have declared states of emergency as nearly a million people are without power. As the storm dumped snow, sleet and freezing rain across a vast area, officials warned that an Arctic air mass trailing the system would drive temperatures to dangerously low levels for days, prolonging disruptions to daily life. The National Weather Service (NWS) said Americans should expect similar conditions to continue into Monday morning. New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said five people were found dead outdoors over the weekend in subzero temperatures. While he did not confirm that the deaths were weather-related, he told reporters there was “no more powerful reminder of the danger of extreme cold”. In Texas, authorities confirmed three deaths, including a 16-year-old girl killed in a sledding accident. Two people died in Louisiana from …

Thousands march in Greenland against Trump’s threats to take it over | Donald Trump News

Published On 18 Jan 202618 Jan 2026 Click here to share on social media share2 Share Thousands of Greenlanders marched against United States President Donald Trump. They carried protest signs, waved their national flag, and chanted “Greenland is not for sale” in defence of their self-governance amid growing fears of a US takeover. As they completed their march on Saturday from the small city centre of Greenland’s capital, Nuuk, to the US consulate, news broke that Trump, speaking from his home in Florida, had announced a 10 percent import tax from February on goods from eight European countries, in retaliation for their opposition to US control of the Arctic island. Trump has long argued that the US should own the strategically located, mineral-rich island, which is a self-governing territory of Denmark. He stepped up his calls a day after a US military operation ousted and abducted Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro earlier this month. In Nuuk, Greenlanders of all ages listened to traditional songs as they walked to the consulate. Tillie Martinussen, a former member of …
