On Tuesday, another one of these lunchboxes on wheels seems to have smashed into a bus shelter and rained shattered glass all over the sidewalk. Bizarrely, it’s the second time in a matter of days that this exact same thing happened in the Windy City. Weird coincidence, or do the machines just have it out for fragile transit infrastructure? Something seems to be afoot, since the offending robots were operated by two different companies. The latest crash, as reported by local outlet Block Club, was perpetrated by a robot from Coco, one of several robotics firms allowed to operate deliveries in certain parts of Chicago. Footage posted online shows the Coco bot idling in the mess it made, with glass shards sprinkled across its top. The company’s alarming financials did little to buoy waning investor enthusiasm, with shares continuing a months-long plunge that reached an all-time low last week. Somehow, the situation has only gotten even more dire since then, with shares dipping well below $9. Jordan Peebles, 32, pulled out a kitchen knife as he robbed an off-licence in Coventry on Christmas Eve. A 55-year-old paedophile has been sentenced to 24 years in jail after he was found guilty of sexually abusing two children in an “incredibly distressing case”. Mark Kearney was arrested in November 2024 after the abuse was reported to police. He was swiftly charged and remanded in custody, and the evil Derbyshire man of no fixed address stood trial on multiple counts of horrifying sexual assault against two children in April last year, where he denied all charges. Police have commended the bravery of both victims for coming forward and supporting the investigation. Kearney faced charges for two counts of rape of a child under 13, assault by penetration of a child under 13, and inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity in regard to one victim. The 55-year-old also faced a charge of assault by touching a child under 13, and two counts of causing a child to look at an image of sexual activity. Earth experienced its fifth-warmest February on record last month – with temperatures at 1.49C above pre-industrial levels, scientists have said. The month was marked by “extreme rainfall and widespread flooding in Western Europe and the third-lowest sea ice extent in the Arctic”, the Copernicus Climate Change Service said on Tuesday. Experts say climate change was at least partly to blame for the exceptionally wet season across Western Europe. It saw a run of intense storms including Leonardo, Pedro, and Nils, which was described as having “uncommon strength” by French weather service Meteo-France.
