I created a custom Windows 11 install that’s faster than Microsoft’s version

I have an old laptop I refuse to part with. Not out of nostalgia, but because the hardware is still capable, and I don’t want to surrender to the temptation to junk a machine just because Microsoft’s system requirements say so. The problem is that every time I install a fresh copy of Windows 11 on it, the OS boots sluggishly, idles with a hungry RAM appetite, and arrives pre-stuffed with apps I have never once opened. This makes quickly removing bloatware from Windows 11 a mandatory post-installation chore. That frustration is what eventually led me to Tiny11 Builder, a free, open-source PowerShell script maintained by a developer known as NTDEV on GitHub. Related I just installed Windows 11 on a 10-year old PC — this method still works You don’t need to worry about Windows 11 hardware requirements with Rufus. IONNA will install hundreds of DC fast chargers at Circle Ks across America

IONNA, the EV charging network created by a coalition of large automakers, will install fast chargers at over 350 sites across America in partnership with convenience store chain Circle K. IONNA was founded in 2024 as a partnership between several large automakers to advance fast-charging in North America. At first, it was BMW, GM, Honda, Hyundai, Kia, Mercedes-Benz, and Stellantis, though later Toyota joined the fray. The partnership intends to install fast charging at locations they call “rechargeries” across America, focusing on extra-fast 400kW chargers, to feed today’s quickest-charging vehicles and future-proof charging for faster-charging vehicles to come in the future. IONNA has already opened several charging sites across the country (about 100 so far, as of last month), though there are still large gaps in coverage – the network is relatively new, after all. KDE Linux is the purest form of Plasma I’ve tested – but the install isn’t for the meek

Jack Wallen/ZDNET ZDNET’s key takeaways KDE Linux is a distribution that highlights KDE Plasma. This distribution gives you Plasma exactly how it should be. KDE Linux is still in alpha stage, so it’s not yet suitable for daily use. Over the past few years, I’ve become a big fan of KDE Plasma. Not only has it become one of the most stable Linux desktop environments, but it’s also incredibly user-friendly, fast, and beautiful.  But did you know that most Linux distributions present KDE Plasma with a version of the desktop usually customized to meet the aesthetic and functionality of that particular OS? For example, when you use KDE Plasma on Kubuntu, it looks and feels different from what the KDE Plasma developers created. Also: Garuda KDE Dr460nized might be the coolest-looking Linux distro available Sometimes those differences are hard to catch; they could be subtle tweaks of the theme, or how the desktop behaves, such as what you’ll find in KDE Neon. On the other hand, some distributions (such as Garuda Dr460nized) present KDE Plasma in …

The 7 Linux apps I install on every fresh system (no terminal required)

The 7 Linux apps I install on every fresh system (no terminal required)

A fresh Linux install feels amazing for about ten minutes. Everything boots fast, the desktop is spotless, and nothing is cluttered yet. For a brief moment, it feels like this machine might finally stay perfectly organized forever. Then real life begins. A few chats appear, perhaps you have downloaded a video, or your phone wants to send a file to your computer. Suddenly, that pristine system starts revealing small gaps that make everyday tasks slightly more awkward than they should be. Over the years, I’ve developed a short ritual whenever I install Linux. Before tweaking themes or reorganizing my home folder, I install a handful of apps that immediately make the system more comfortable to use. The best part is that every app here can be installed through your system’s software manager or a simple download. No terminal required. Vivaldi A browser that actually understands tab chaos Most Linux distributions ship with Firefox, and it’s a solid browser. I still install Vivaldi almost immediately. Modern browsing is messy. Research turns into twenty tabs before you …

San Francisco moves to install curbside EV chargers on city streets

San Francisco moves to install curbside EV chargers on city streets

Photo: it’s electric The City of San Francisco could soon make it much easier for residents without a driveway or garage to charge their EVs on the street. Mayor Daniel Lurie introduced legislation yesterday that would create the city’s first permanent curbside EV charging program. The proposal, which Lurie introduced with Board of Supervisors President Rafael Mandelman, sets up a permitting pathway for charging stations to be installed at city curbs. The move builds on San Francisco’s temporary curbside charging pilot program, which launched in April 2025. If the new program moves forward, the goal is to install 100 curbside chargers across the city by 2030. San Francisco already has one of the highest EV adoption rates in the US, but many residents, especially renters and people living in apartment buildings, don’t have access to home charging. Curbside chargers could help close that gap.
