Turkey brands Netanyahu ‘Hitler’ as Erdogan threatens Israel invasion | World | News

Turkey’s president has launched a scathing attack on Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, declaring he is “blinded by blood and hate,” while one of his ministers branded him a “Hitler of our time”. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also issued threats to invade Israel over its assault on Lebanon. In a speech delivered after indictments were issued against 35 senior Israeli officials, Mr Erdoğan said: “Had Pakistan not been mediating in the war between the US and Iran, we would have shown Israel its place. Just as we entered Libya and Karabakh, we can enter Israel. “There is no reason not to do it.” The officials, including Netanyahu, face charges of crimes against humanity, prompting the Israeli prime minister to hit back in a social media post, accusing Mr Erdoğan of having “massacred his own Kurdish citizens”. Israeli defence minister Israel Katz, who was also named in the Turkish indictments, branded the Turkish premier a “Muslim Brotherhood man”. The latest friction between the nations emerges as Mr Erdoğan cautioned Donald Trump about potential “provocations and sabotage” in …

Kyiv useful to US, Gulf at critical time: Drone interceptors ‘more effective than Patriot missiles’

Nadia Massih is pleased to welcome Dr Samuel Ramani, Associate Fellow at the Royal United Services Institute. According to Dr. Ramani, President Zelensky’s outreach to Gulf states reflects a calculated effort to reposition Ukraine within a shifting global order, where military innovation, energy politics, and diplomatic alignment intersect. This repositioning serves multiple objectives: strengthening ties with ambivalent Gulf actors, reinforcing Ukraine’s strategic value to the United States, and attracting much-needed investment into its defense and technology sectors. Trump accused of preparing for ground invasion of Iran | World | News

Iran has accused US President Donald Trump of gearing up for a possible ground invasion of Iranian territory. The Pentagon is said to have been preparing for “weeks of ground operations”, after around 3,500 US personnel, including Marines, arrived in the region. The personnel arrived in their thousands aboard the USS Tripoli warship, US Central Command confirmed. In a direct threat, Iran says its forces are prepared and poised for US troops to attempt a ground invasion, warning that they would fiercely resist and “engulf” American forces if they attempt to step foot on Iranian soil. In a message published to mark 30 days since the start of the war, speaker of Iran’s parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said: “The enemy signals negotiation in public, while in secret it plots a ground attack.” He continued: “Our firing continues. Our missiles are in place. Our determination and faith have increased.” The parliament speaker said Tehran is “waiting for the arrival of American troops on the ground to set them on fire”. Marking a month since the conflict …

Netanyahu says Israel will widen invasion of southern Lebanon

Netanyahu says Israel will widen invasion of southern Lebanon

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Sunday that Israel’s military will widen its ground campaign in southern Lebanon. Speaking at a news conference, Netanyahu said an expansion of the country’s “security belt” in Lebanon is intended to “thwart the threat of invasion and to keep the anti-tank missile fire away from our border.” Israel has been carrying out an invasion of southern Lebanon since Iran-backed Hezbollah began attacking Israel in response to its war on Iran, which it launched alongside the U.S. on Feb. 28. Since March 2, nearly 1,200 people have been killed and more than 3,400 have been wounded in Lebanon. Nineteen people have been killed in Israel. Source link

AP Is Calling Israel’s Attack on Lebanon an Invasion. What Does That Mean and Why Does It Matter?

AP Is Calling Israel’s Attack on Lebanon an Invasion. What Does That Mean and Why Does It Matter?

Israel has moved thousands of troops across the border into Lebanon, and Israeli forces and Iran-backed Hezbollah militants have been fighting on the ground for at least three weeks. Israeli officials, including the defense minister, said they want to take control of the entire area south of the Litani River — some 20 miles (about 30 kilometers) north of the border – and that displaced Lebanese residents will not be allowed back until Israel decides that its northern border is safe. Israel occupied much of that area from 1982 to 2000 after it invaded southern Lebanon during the country’s civil war. The army said Thursday it had deployed another division to Lebanon, adding to a force of thousands sent into the southern part of the country since the war erupted more than three weeks ago. The army won’t say how many troops were sent in on Thursday, or in total. What are the two sides saying? Lebanese officials say Israel has violated Lebanon’s sovereignty and is seeking to occupy Lebanese land. Israel says its actions …

Despite decapitation, Iran’s regime endures: Does Hormuz blockade give Tehran the upper hand?

William Hilderbrandt is pleased to welcome Paul Taylor, Senior Visiting Fellow in the Europe in the World Programme and a member of the Defence/Security EUrope project. He is also a freelance columnist for The Guardian. Amid the Strait of Hormuz blockade, Mr. Taylor argues that even overwhelming force cannot guarantee safety when asymmetric tools, such as drones and decentralised command structures, remain effective. At its core, he contends that reopening the Strait is not a technical or logistical challenge, but a political and diplomatic one.  Keywords for this article Source link

Fears of an all-out Israeli invasion mount in Lebanon

Fears of an all-out Israeli invasion mount in Lebanon

Katz warned Monday that the hundreds of thousands of people who have evacuated their homes south of the Litani River won’t be able to return until the “safety of residents” in northern Israel was “guaranteed.” That raised fears about how long a wider ground offensive — or potential occupation of the area — might last. “It will become bigger,” said Kobi Michael, a senior researcher at the Tel Aviv-based Institute for National Security Studies who previously served as the deputy director general and head of the Palestinian desk at the Israeli Strategic Affairs Ministry. “Wider and bigger because we have to clear all the strip between the border and the Litani River,” said Michael, who is also a member of the Misgav Institute for National Security & Zionist Strategy.
