Saul Loeb | Afp | Getty Images The U.S. will impose tariffs of 50% on “any and all” goods imported to the country from any nation “supplying military weapons to Iran”, President Donald Trump said on Wednesday. Trump said in a Truth Social post that any country found to be supplying Iran with weapons would be subject to the levy “immediately”, with no “exclusions or exemptions”. The president wrote: “A Country supplying Military Weapons to Iran will be immediately tariffed, on any and all goods sold to the United States of America, 50%, effective immediately. There will be no exclusions or exemptions!” It came as Trump said the U.S. would “work closely” with Iranian authorities, following the ceasefire agreement announced on Tuesday and what Trump called “very productive regime change”. Trump said in a separate Truth Social post that “there will …

Significant sections of the B1 Bridge are seen destroyed after an airstrike attributed to the United States and Israel targeted the site near Tehran, in Karaj, Iran, on April 03, 2026. Anadolu | Anadolu | Getty Images U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday threatened to destroy Iran’s bridges and power plants, saying the “New Regime leadership knows what has to be done, and has to be done, FAST!” in a Truth Social post. Trump did not elaborate on what needed to be “done,” but said the U.S. “hasn’t even started destroying what’s left in Iran.” Hours later, Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reportedly claimed that a U.S. F-35 fighter jet was shot down over central Iran. Images of debris posted on Telegram included a photo that appeared to show the words “U.S. Air Forces in Europe” on what looked like a plane’s tail section. Nouriel Roubini warns Trump likely to escalate Iran war

U.S. President Donald Trump is likely to escalate the war with Iran, risking “1970s stagflation” if it does not go as planned, renowned economist and investor Nouriel Roubini told CNBC. Speaking to CNBC’s Carolin Roth at the Ambrosetti Forum in Cernobbio, Italy on Friday, Roubini — best known for predicting the 2008 Global Financial Crisis — rejected the view that Trump was “looking desperately for an off-ramp” to end the war. Markets have appeared optimistic in recent days about a potential resolution to the conflict. “People make the argument that … his polls are down, he wants this war to be over because there’ll be damage for the economy, growth, inflation and the mid-term elections,” he said, referring to congressional elections in November. “But if you think about it, the damage has already been done. If there is a ceasefire on conditions that are Iranian style, he’s going to look like a loser — his credibility’s weaker, he’s going to lose the election for sure.” “My argument is that, counterintuitively, he’s going to decide to …

The IDF said in a social media post that Tangsiri “oversaw maritime terrorism carried out against countries in the Middle East, as well as against U.S. and other nations’ energy infrastructure.” U.S. Central Command later confirmed Tangsiri’s death in a post on X. Tangsiri’s death from the Israeli airstrike “makes the region safer,” said the commander of CentCom, Adm. Brad Cooper, adding that strikes on the Iranian navy would continue. Iran has not yet commented on the report. Shipping traffic through the …

‘I don’t want to do a ceasefire’ in Iran war

President Donald Trump told reporters on Friday he is not interested in a ceasefire with Iran. “We could have dialogue, but I don’t want to do a ceasefire,” Trump said from the White House South Lawn before departing for Florida. “You know you don’t do a ceasefire when you’re literally obliterating the other side.” “They don’t have a navy. They don’t have an air force. They don’t have any equipment,” Trump continued. Trump’s comments come nearly three weeks into the U.S.-Israel war against Iran, which has turned into a broader regional conflict. They signal no quick end to the conflict, which sent stocks tumbling on Friday and has caused oil prices to soar. U.S., Israel winning but Iran revolution needs ground component

U.S., Israel winning but Iran revolution needs ground component

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday said “Iran is being decimated” as the U.S. and Israel target its ballistic missile and nuclear programs from the air — but he added that meaningful regime change will require a “ground component.” “You don’t want to replace one ayatollah with another,” Netanyahu said at a press conference. “You don’t want to replace Hitler with Hitler.” He said that the Iranian people must ultimately “rise to the moment.” “We can create the conditions, but they have to, you know, they have to exploit those conditions at a certain point,” he said. A revolution cannot come “only from the air,” he went on. “You can do a lot of things from the air, and we’re doing [them,] but … there has to be a ground component as well.” Read more CNBC politics coverage His remarks left open the possibility that such on-the-ground action may take many forms. “There are many possibilities for this ground component, and I take the liberty of not sharing with you all those possibilities.” The …

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian confirmed Khatib’s death in a post on X. “The cowardly assassination of my dear colleagues Ismail Khatib, Ali Larijani, and Aziz Nasirzadeh, alongside some of their family members and accompanying team, has left us in deep mourning,” Pezeshkian wrote. Tom Williams | Cq-roll Call, Inc. | Getty Images National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent on Tuesday announced he will resign in response to the Trump administration’s war against Iran. “I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war,” Kent said in a letter addressed to President Donald Trump, that was posted on Kent’s personal X account. Kent, a promoter of far-right conspiracy theories whom the Senate narrowly confirmed for the director role last July, accused the president of being deceived by Israel into supporting the war. “Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby,” Kent wrote in his letter. Trump disputed Kent’s claims later Tuesday. “I always thought he was a nice guy, but I always thought he was weak on security,” Trump told reporters …

U.S. asked China to delay Xi meeting ‘a month or so’ due to Iran war

President Donald Trump said Monday that the U.S. has asked to delay his planned meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing by “a month or so” due to the ongoing war with Iran. Trump was expected to travel to China at the end of March for the meeting with Xi. But when asked in the Oval Office on Monday afternoon if that trip was still on, Trump said, “I don’t know, we’re working on that right now.” “We’re speaking to China. I’d love to, but because of the war, I want to be here. I have to be here, I feel,” Trump said. “And so, we’ve requested that we delay it a month or so,” Trump said. “I’m looking forward to being with him. We have a very good relationship.” The comments came as tensions between the two economic superpowers have recently appeared to ratchet up, spurred by the Iran war and the U.S. announcing a new investigation into Chinese trade practices. Trump insisted in Monday’s remarks that the proposed delay was solely about …
