An exam­ple of Rand’s obser­va­tion, La Lin­ea, aka Mr. Line, a beloved and decep­tive­ly sim­ple car­toon char­ac­ter drawn with a sin­gle unbro­ken line, began as a shill for an Ital­ian cook­ware com­pa­ny. No mat­ter what he man­ages to get up to in two or three min­utes, it’s deter­mined that he’ll even­tu­al­ly butt up against the lim­i­ta­tions of his lin­eal real­i­ty. His chat­ter­ing, apoplec­tic response proved such a hit with view­ers that a few episodes in, the cook­ware con­nec­tion was sev­ered. Prominent left-leaning Italian weekly L’Espresso is at the centre of a diplomatic storm online, after the Israeli ambassador to Italy slammed its choice of front cover as “manipulative”. The magazine titled its latest edition “L’Abuso” or “The Abuse”, illustrating the cover with a photo of an armed Israeli settler sneering, whilst pointing his smartphone at a visibly distressed Palestinian woman. Israeli envoy Jonathan Peled said the image of the grinning settler “distorts the complex reality with which Israel must coexist, promoting stereotypes and hatred.” Online, pro-Israel accounts are casting doubt over the photo’s authenticity, questioning if it is fake or AI-generated, with some saying it dehumanises Jews and reinforces anti-Semitic stereotypes, likening it to Nazi propaganda during the Holocaust. In response to the criticism, the photographer of the image, Pietro Masturzo, confirmed that it is indeed real, sharing a video filmed from the incident in Idhna, west of Hebron on October 12, 2025. Ornellaia, the maker of Super Tuscan wines near the medieval town of Bolgheri, has revealed the designs it has commissioned performance artist Marina Abramović to make for its 2023 vintages. Part of the vintner’s Vendemmia d’Artista project, Abramović has created designs for the standard 750ml bottle, as well as its larger 3L, 6L, and 9L bottles. While the 750 ml have a much larger production, Ornellaia only makes 100 bottles in the 3L size, 10 in the 6L, and one in the 9L. Several of these limited-edition bottles with be auctioned in June at Bonhams, with proceeds benefitting the Guggenheim Museum’s upcoming exhibition “Guggenheim Pop: 1960 to Now,” opening in June. While Netflix prices seem to keep rising in the United States, the streaming giant may have to reverse that trend in Italy. On Friday, a Rome court ruled that Netflix’s price increases over the last seven years were unlawful, and that the streamer must refund its Italian customers, Reuters reported. Netflix apparently violated Italy’s Consumer Code by changing the subscription price without a valid reason. Specifically, the ruling states that Netflix breached this code in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2024, according to Euro News. Four Italian airports are being warned that they may face jet fuel restrictions amid limited supplies from a key provider. An aviation notice issued Saturday said that “due to limited fuel availability from Air BP Italia, refueling services for operators contractually linked to Air BP Italia may be subject to restrictions.” The affected airports are Bologna, Milan Linate, Treviso and Venice. Italian news agency ANSA reported that Air BP Italia — a subsidiary of British oil giant BP — told airlines that priority would be given to ambulance and state flights, as well as flights lasting more than three hours. The museum insisted no passwords or security maps were stolen and that the systems involved were closed-circuit and not accessible from outside, with “no information lost.” The transfer of items to the vaults, including Medici-era treasures, was unrelated to the cyberattack but due to ongoing renovations. WASHINGTON, April 1 : Messaging service WhatsApp said an Italian surveillance company tricked some 200 users into downloading a bogus version of its popular app that was rigged to spy on its victims. In a statement, the Meta Platforms-owned service said the campaign was carried out by ASIGINT, a subsidiary of northern Italy-based SIO, whose website boasts of “high-performance, field-proven cyber intelligence solutions and technology.” WhatsApp said the campaign was “highly targeted” and relied on deception to get victims to install “malicious software that impersonated WhatsApp.” It did not identify the victims beyond saying they were “primarily” in Italy. SIO, which says on its website that it partners with “Law Enforcement Agencies, Government Organizations, Police and Intelligence Agencies,” did not immediately return a message seeking comment. ROME (AP) — The Italian coast guard found 19 bodies and rescued 58 people after intercepting a dinghy filled with migrants that was in distress about 80 nautical miles from the southern Italian island of Lampedusa, a coast guard spokesperson said. The rescue took place Tuesday night with the Italian coast guard operating in the Libyan search and rescue zone during rough weather conditions, said spokesperson Roberto D’Arrigo on Wednesday. “We were the only ones able to intervene, as there were no other ships or rescue teams in the area. Sea conditions were pretty extreme, with waves of more than 6-7 meters (20-23 feet),” he said. D’Arrigo said the migrants had probably departed from Libya. The victims likely died of hypothermia but the cause of the deaths still needs to be verified. The survivors were brought to Lampedusa after a 10-hour trip and are in the care of local health services, the coast guard said.
