Ed Sheeran Is the First Person on Earth With This IWC Chronograph

Ed Sheeran Is the First Person on Earth With This IWC Chronograph

Ed Sheeran is one of the most popular musicians on the planet, but around these parts, he’s mostly known for being one of the world’s most famous watch nerds. Befitting both, he kicked off the first of three sold-out shows at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium—appropriately dubbed “Ragnarok and Roll,”—by arm wrestling Chris Hemsworth and wearing IWC’s new superhero-worthy chronograph on stage. According to horological lore, in the late 1930s, two Portuguese businessmen approached the International Watch Company with a request for an oversized men’s wristwatch—a strict departure from the daintier timepieces of the era. IWC fulfilled this request by fitting a pocket watch movement into an oversized wristwatch case, producing several hundred examples of it between 1939 and the 1970s. In the early 1990s, the brand released a special edition of the so-called Portugieser, and what was once a curiosity grew into one of IWC’s most beloved collections. Courtesy of IWC Heavily influenced by traditional pocket-watch aesthetics, the Portugieser has always been a dressier collection, with a range of sophisticated complications on offer, including the mind-boggling …

The Formula 1 Watch Season Has Officially Begun

The Formula 1 Watch Season Has Officially Begun

The cast of Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive—also known as Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, and the other stars of motorsport’s biggest stage—took their new cars for a test spin in Barcelona this past week in preparation for what promises to be another drama-filled F1 season. Meanwhile, in Switzerland, the biggest watch brands on the grid are making preparations of their own. At IWC, long the “Official Engineering Partner” of the Mercedes AMG Formula 1 Team, this meant giving Mercedes driver George Russell carte blanche to put his stamp on a new watch. Russell joined Mercedes in 2022 as Lewis Hamilton’s number two, and after his teammate left for Ferrari in 2025, Russell had a promising first season in the driver’s seat, finishing fourth overall. Given the success of Hamilton’s IWC collabs during his tenure at Mercedes, however, Russell has some good-sized Sparco booties to fill in watch design as well as on the circuit. Connor Storrie Is Everywhere—And So Are His Killer IWC Watches

Connor Storrie Is Everywhere—And So Are His Killer IWC Watches

It’s one thing to be hip-checked straight into the zeitgeist—it’s quite another to do so as a horological influencer. It seems like Connor Storrie, the 25-year-old breakout star of Heated Rivalry, has figured out how to do both. Appearing on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Storrie wore the IWC Portofino Complete Calendar, a large, contemporary take on a relatively little-seen complication. While annual and perpetual calendars are all the rage, “complete” (or “triple”) calendars are less common. Requiring manual adjustment at the end of each month, they’ve largely been superseded by their more sophisticated brethren. A handful of manufacturers still offer them, however, which is a welcome thing considering the eye-watering MSRPs of annual and perpetual calendars. The Portofino Complete Calendar—which is part of a dressy collection introduced by IWC in 1984—measures 41mm in 18K 5N yellow gold. At nearly 12mm thick, it doesn’t possess the wafer-thin proportions of, say, a Piaget or the diminutive loveliness of a vintage Patek Philippe Calatrava, but that’s not really the point. The ref. Dwayne Johnson’s IWC Perpetual Calendar Is a Miniature Mechanical Computer

Dwayne Johnson’s IWC Perpetual Calendar Is a Miniature Mechanical Computer

Not everybody can pull off a 44mm watch—even more so when it’s a 44mm dress watch—and even more so when it’s crafted from a solid hunk of 18K 5N gold (IWC’s honey-hued blend of gold, copper, and silver.) But Dwayne Johnson ain’t everybody, and the IWC Portugieser Perpetual Calendar (ref. IW503302) looks positively tiny on his beefy 6’5” frame. Appearing at the Creative Impact Awards and 10 Directors To Watch Brunch hosted by Variety during the 2026 Palm Springs International Film Festival a few days ago, Johnson paired a sand-hued Dolce & Gabbana ensemble with one of the International Watch Company’s premier complications. Though not part of IWC’s dedicated pilot’s watch collection, the Portugieser’s dressier 1940s-inspired silhouette still shares some aesthetic DNA with timepieces used by early flyboys as they piloted their piston-powered aircraft over Europe: The slab-sided round case, stepped bezel, and knurled crown all make reference to the fact that the original, oversized Portugieser watches actually used pocket watch movements, while the dial’s railroad minute track, thin leaf handset, and applied Arabic numerals …
