Princess Kate’s ‘heartbreak’ holiday to Italy aged 18 revealed

The Princess of Wales is preparing to return to Italy for the first time in more than two decades, but behind the polished royal visit lies a far more personal story, one that began with heartbreak. Kate Middleton is set to travel to Northern Italy in mid-May for her first official overseas working visit since announcing her cancer diagnosis in 2024, marking a poignant full-circle moment 26 years after she last set foot in the country as an 18-year-old student. Long before she met Prince William or stepped into royal life, Kate spent a formative gap year in Florence in 2000, immersing herself in Italian language and art history at the prestigious British Institute of Florence. It was a time of independence, discovery and, as it turns out, quiet emotional healing. © FilmMagicKate Middleton when she was 18 According to royal biographer Katie Nicholl, the future princess arrived in Italy nursing a broken heart after splitting from her high school boyfriend, Harry Blakelock, just before her departure. While her surroundings were undeniably romantic, Kate kept her focus …

12 private royal living rooms: Princess Anne’s modest home, Princess Kate’s ‘museum’ & more

It may be hard to think of members of the royal family doing ordinary things like reading to their children on the sofa or relaxing in front of the television, but behind closed doors, they do exactly that, spending time in their private living rooms.  While some royal residences have the most amazing sitting rooms with ample space, high ceilings and decadent décor, others are much humbler, like Princess Anne’s relatable lounge, which went viral when a picture was shared during the pandemic of her and her husband Sir Timothy Laurence watching a rugby match in their modest room.  Then, we’ve got the impressive living spaces of European royalty with a distinctly formal feel, including bold colours and gilded touches. In stark contrast to the pared-back and modern look at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s Montecito mansion, which they share with their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.   Keep scrolling to see all of these and more… Harry and Meghan’s lounge is stylish and modern Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s living room at Montecito mansion The …

Prince William and Princess Kate’s palace home had ‘hazardous’ issue before they moved in

The Prince and Princess of Wales currently reside at Forest Lodge in Windsor, with their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. They have lived there since November 2025, but they still retain their London base, Apartment 1A at Kensington Palace, to use when they are in the city. Before the royal couple first moved into the 20-room residence in 2013, it required extensive renovations – including the removal of a hazardous material.  The renovations inside the property came to £600,000 and the roof repair cost £400,000, meaning a whopping £1 million was spent preparing the space for their arrival. It was last lived in by Princess Margaret and had not been refurbished since the early Sixties. During the process, experts were enlisted to clear asbestos in the home, a potentially dangerous substance. © Getty ImagesThe couple have a base inside the palace  Gov.uk warns of the dangers of finding asbestos in your home. “All forms of asbestos fibers are hazardous as they can induce cancer following inhalation exposure,” it reads. Prince William turns down Kate’s coffee – because it wasn’t decaf | UK News

The Princess of Wales showed off her barista skills during a visit to London Borough Market – but her husband was not as impressed. Huge crowds formed on Thursday to catch a glimpse of the pair – who even pitched in by serving customers. Kate made husband William a coffee – only for him to turn it away when he realised it wasn’t decaf. Elsewhere she told a brewer that she had to stay clear of alcohol because of her cancer diagnosis. The Princess of Wales showed off her barista skills during a stop at Change Please, a social enterprise training homeless people in coffee retail. Princess Kate’s parents Carole and Michael ‘dead set against’ her attending Prince William’s university

Princess Kate’s parents Carole and Michael ‘dead set against’ her attending Prince William’s university

The Princess of Wales’s decision to attend the University of St Andrews raised her parents’ eyebrows when she first filled them in on the news following her ten-week trip to Chile.  She was in South America on a volunteering expedition with the Raleigh International Programme and returned home to Berkshire with an idea. The young student revealed she intended to enrol in the Fife-based institution.  However, her news was supposedly not well-received by her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, as they feared she was only keen to attend St Andrews to follow her love interest, Prince William, who announced he would be studying there in August 2000.  Kate was originally due to start an Art History degree at the University of Edinburgh before her change of mind led her to graduate with an honours degree in History of Art from St Andrews in 2005.  In his tell-all book, William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story, about the royal couple, Russell Myers revealed why the princess’s parents were “dead set” against Kate attending William’s university initially.  …

Prince William and Princess Kate’s heated rivalry at Forest Lodge

Prince William and Princess Kate’s heated rivalry at Forest Lodge

In many ways, Prince William and Princess Kate are the perfect match. Both dedicated to their family and their royal duties, their values are incredibly well aligned. But there is one thing they vehemently disagree on – rugby. Princess Kate’s rugby team of choice is England, of whom she is the patron, while Prince William is patron of the Welsh rugby team, and this weekend sees the two teams go head-to-head in the Six Nations. The match takes place at 4:40 pm on Saturday, hinting that tensions will be running high at their home, Forest Lodge, all day as the Wales family awaits the match. © Samir Hussein/WireImageWilliam and Kate have conflicting rugby views The game is taking place at Twickenham, just a 34-minute drive from the royal home in Windsor, so there’s a chance the family might attend the match – watch this space! Video from ‘deeply personal’ series released on Kate’s birthday | UK News

The Princess of Wales has said her video series on nature has been “deeply personal” and has helped her “discover what it means to be alive”. In the final part of her quarterly Mother Nature project, posted on social media on her 44th birthday, Kate said the “coldest” and “darkest” season, winter, had a way of bringing “stillness, patience and quiet consideration”. “Where the stream slows just enough for us to see our own reflection,” she added in the clip. Princess Kate’s common habit she’s ‘notoriously bad’ for doing at home

The Princess of Wales always appears to be the picture of poised perfection during public engagements. Ever since she was welcomed into the royal family when she and Prince William became engaged in 2010, she has rarely put a foot wrong – so it’s something of a relief to learn that she is just like us in some ways. In an interview with The Times, podcaster Giovanna Fletcher, who had Princess Kate as a guest on her parenting podcast in 2020, gave a rare insight into what Princess Kate is really like, and her anecdote proves that the future Queen is more like us than we originally thought. “She told me that she was notoriously bad at keeping an eye on her phone,” Giovanna told The Times. “She always loses her phone. All of her Christmas presents that year were related to her keeping track of her phone… It was all about her not losing her phone.” © InstagramGiovanna and Kate have spoken several times A new challenge This could be more of an issue …
