Thoughts on Theology in Science by Kenneth Francis: Berkeley Vs Solipsism

Theology in Science, written by Kenneth Francis, is a fascinating book that covers a variety of topics from quantum theory to the dream life of spiders. For myself, the portion of the book I found the most interesting was the discussion on George Berkeley and the philosophical idea known as solipsism.  Solipsism claims the only thing that is sure to exist is one’s own mind. This is an idea that I find particularly irritating. If I am the only thing that exists, and my reality is some sort of byproduct of my own imagination, then I have some words for the manager. Speaking from a storytelling standpoint, I’ve always found the idea irritating because realities that are essentially an illusion are detrimental to stakes in a plot. There’s a reason the Matrix franchise has to consistently return to reality. If the whole movie were set in the Matrix and Neo died, nobody would have much reason to care because he’s probably still alive somewhere and can be rebooted at some point. In order for the suspension of disbelief to take place, the audience …

2026 Social Impact Summit Honors Kenneth Cole and Selena Gomez

2026 Social Impact Summit Honors Kenneth Cole and Selena Gomez

Kenneth Cole and Selena Gomez were honored at the 2026 Social Impact Summit, the first outing of the Social Impact Fund to focus on fashion and beauty philanthropy, where speakers and panelists shared insight on topics from the importance of creative diversity to why college isn’t the only pathway to a career in the industry. Veteran fashion and accessories designer Kenneth Cole was honored with the Social Impact Fund’s Excellence in Fashion Philanthropy Award by Michael Atmore, editor-in-chief of Women’s Wear Daily, in front of an audience full of VIPS, Fashion Institute of Technology students and fashion and beauty execs inside FIT’s theater. In 1985 — more than 40 years ago — Cole started a very witty ad campaign in support of HIV/AIDS research and charities. He was the first person in fashion to launch a full-scale philanthropic ad campaign, which led the way for many others. “At the time I started,” Cole told Atmore as part of an onstage Q&A, “AIDS was already pervasive, but no one was talking about it. I don’t think we could …

Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh Team Up for Buddy Comedy ‘Mayday’

Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh are teaming up for Mayday, with Apple TV releasing a first-look image from the new film during its press day in Santa Monica on Tuesday. The movie, which premieres Sept. 4 on the streamer, is described as a genre-bending, action-packed buddy comedy that flips the spy thriller on its head. When hot shot U.S. Navy pilot Lieutenant Troy “Assassin” Kelly (Reynolds) is sent on a top-secret mission into Russian territory at the height of the Cold War, the operation implodes, leaving him stranded behind enemy lines. Discovered by Nikolai Ustinov (Branagh), a gruff ex-KGB agent with a penchant for American culture, Troy thinks he’s toast — but could an unlikely alliance between the two lead to Troy’s rescue, and a bond neither saw coming? Marcin Dorocinski, Maria Bakalova and David Morse round out the ensemble cast. An Apple original hailing from David Ellison’s Skydance Media, Mayday is written, directed and produced by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (who most recently helmed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves). My Life With Kenneth Williams review – raconteur resurrected by an extraordinary mimic | Theatre

It will be 100 years next month since Kenneth Williams’ birth, and almost 30 since David Benson created his hit show about him, Think No Evil of Us – versions of which he has toured ever since. Here’s another one marking the centenary, and, more resurrection than mimicry, it can’t help but be striking to anyone who grew up with the raconteur, diarist and Carry On star as a mainstay of British life. There are ever fewer of us around, mind you: this is “a boomer show”, Benson admits, as strong on nostalgia as it is on insight into what made Williams tick. Indeed the first act is more about what made 13-year-old Benson tick. In 1975, his winning entry in a Jackanory story competition was read by Williams on national TV. We see him relive the moment, mortified that he’d now be associated by school bullies with the campest man in the UK. Elsewhere in act one, Benson recounts his adolescent awakening as an exponent of funny voices, casually deploying his note-perfect Frankie Howerd, …

The Incredible Hulk creator Kenneth Johnson reveals why Lou Ferrigno was banned from speaking in iconic show

The Incredible Hulk star Lou Ferrigno was banned from speaking in the 1970s series because he had a New York accent. The show – based on the Marvel Comics character created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby – ran between 1977 and 1982 and was repeated throughout the ’80s as well as spawning a series of television films. It was created by Kenneth Johnson and followed mild mannered scientist David Banner – played by Bill Bixby – trying to live his life without getting angry and turning into the enraged Hulk, played by Ferrigno. Bixby as Banner was famous for his line “you wouldn’t like me when I’m angry” and was a global hit. Now, the TV programme’s creator Johnson has spilled that Ferrigno always wanted some dialogue as the Hulk but the writer wouldn’t let him talk because of his thick Brooklyn drawl. Speaking to BANG Showbiz, Johnson – who also wrote sci-fi shows V and The Bionic Woman – shared: “Lou Ferrigno used to say to me, ‘Kenny, why doesn’t the Incredible Hulk …
