British people know Nazi tropes when they see them – spineless officials are the problem | UK | News

The British people know antisemitism when they see it (Image: Stop The Hate UK) Perhaps it’s because I don’t have an artistic bone in my body that I’ve always believed that drivel dressed up as high culture is the ultimate cop-out. Yet how often have we seen “creatives” – whose output might shame a toddler’s crayoning session – produce work that`s regarded as serious or high-minded. (Tracy Emin’s unmade bed, anyone? You could have seen my kids’ rooms when they were teenagers). All of which is a double exercise in stupidity: by those who promote it, and those who buy the stuff. The artist trousers the cash, and files their good fortune under The Emperor’s New Clothes. So far so harmless. The danger occurs when what is defined as ‘art’ is used as a shield behind which outright hatred can safely hide. How can Kent Police say this is not antisemitic? He and a colleague, who remains critically ill in hospital, were on call when their marked police car was in the crash. A member of the public who was in a second vehicle continues to be treated for serious injuries. The force said in a statement: “Bradley selflessly gave up his life while trying to save the lives of others who were in danger. “His bravery, dedication, and passion for helping others will not be forgotten.” Kent Police Federation, which represents the rank and file, said PC Bradley Corke’s colleagues were “devastated”. Neil Mennie, chair of Kent Police Federation, said: “We are all absolutely heartbroken to learn of this news. “Bradley was a popular colleague who will be much missed and we will be doing all we can to support his family and …

Police e-fit mocked for uncanny resemblance to A-list popstar | UK | News

Police have released an e-fit of a suspected robber – and prompted a social media meltdown. Commenters on Facebook said a computer-generated image of the alleged criminal was the spit of the Take That frontman Gary Barlow. Kent Police uploaded the picture on its social media account following an incident in Ramsgate on December 16 last year. The force said a bag was snatched from a teenage boy after threats were made to him near the town’s train station. However, the January 16 post has attracted more than 600 comments – many of which reference the e-fit. One user wrote: “They always look like Gary Barlow.” Another, referencing the Take That hit Back For Good, added: “Whatever he said or whatever he did, he didn’t mean it.” Others were quick to compare the post to a scene from spoof spy film Johnny English, as well as saying the image looked like a video game character from GTA or the Sims. More celeb lookalikes mentioned in the comments include MobLand actor Paddy Considine and American comedian …
