Best Jokes by The Rock, Katt Wililams, More Stars

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Katt Williams, Teyana Taylor and other famous faces took shots at a game Kevin Hart on Sunday night at The Roast of Kevin Hart, which was held at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum as part of the Netflix Is a Joke Festival. Among the most common topics during the three-hour event, which aired live on Netflix, were Hart’s diminutive height, his film oeuvre (including the Jumanji and Ride Along movies) and his absentee, drug-addict father. Netflix didn’t reveal the list of guests ahead of time, so there were some surprises during the night. Hart’s frequent co-star Johnson made an appearance late in the show, walking in to lively rock music, very pro wrestling-style, as he joked: “I’ve been waiting an entire life where I could come to a Kevin Hart roast, have fun and just talk shit.” As Johnson complimented Hart’s wife, Eniko, who was in the audience, Hart playfully admonished Johnson and asked him to stop. Johnson also brought up the fact that both he and Hart recently lost their dads, noting …

Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, and Stevie Wonder Honor Eddie Murphy at AFI’s Lifetime Achievement Award

Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, and Stevie Wonder Honor Eddie Murphy at AFI’s Lifetime Achievement Award

Kevin Hart opened up the tribute to Murphy, by talking about the influence he had over every comic’s career and the walls he broke down as a black comedian. This was a prevailing theme throughout the night. “He’s our power. He’s our friend,” Hart said. “And even you white people think he’s your friend, and he’s done a lot to show you different! He’s given us the gift of laughter across generations.” In video interstitials, Murphy reflected upon his career. He pointed out that in Beverly Hills Cop, his character flipped the script on the usual tropes by having a black man not just tolerated in a position of power, but to take charge. He cited Peter Sellers as an inspiration to play multiple roles in movies like The Nutty Professor and Coming to America. He also pointed out that the industry initially complained about the novelty of Boomerang‘s all-black cast when it first premiered. Stevie Wonder received a standing ovation when he took the stage. Murphy famously parodied Wonder on SNL, but the two …

Jumanji 3 Title Is Open World: Dwayne Johnson Shows Trailer

Jumanji 3 Title Is Open World: Dwayne Johnson Shows Trailer

Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black are heading to our society this time around in Jumanji 3. The trio of stars hit the CinemaCon stage in Las Vegas to debut the first footage from the forthcoming film, which revealed its title as Jumanji: Open World. “We are pumped about being back for another Jumanji,” Hart noted. Black said, “I’ve never had more fun working on a movie. This is my favorite so far.” Hart joked that he didn’t quite agree and said about shooting the film alongside frequent co-star Johnson: “It was work.” “You don’t fucking know these people,” Hart quipped as Johnson tried to thank some of the exhibition executives in the audience. “It’s such Hollywood bullshit.” Johnson offered a sentimental moment when sharing that half the dice in the new film was the one used in Robin Williams’ 1995 Jumanji: “Robin, as we like to say, this one’s for you.” The trailer shows Johnson, Black, Hart and Karen Gillan in the real world as stilted versions of the video game avatars they …

Ice Cube, Kevin Hart in Talks to Return Ride Along 3

After a decade of development, Ride Along 3 is starting to see renewed momentum. Daniel Gold, who was a writer on the Netflix series Workin’ Moms, is set to write a new take on the buddy cop story, with Kevin Hart and Ice Cube in talks to return for the Universal project. Also in talks to return is director Tim Story and producer Will Packer, the latter of whom is releasing the rom-com You, Me & Tuscany with the studio this weekend. Universal had no comment on the potential project. Hart and Ice Cube star in the film series as brothers-in-laws who happen to both work in law enforcement, each with drastically different levels of expertise, who often end up in the middle of Florida’s various crime underworlds. It has been ten years since the last Ride Along movie hit theaters. The first Ride Along, out in 2014, grossed over $130 million at the domestic box office, while the second installment earned over $90 million in 2016, making it an overall profitable mid-budget franchise for …
