Goop Kitchen Is Coming to New York. I Got to Try It First.

Goop Kitchen Is Coming to New York. I Got to Try It First.

For a certain kind of New Yorker, April 20 will be a holiday of sorts: It’s the day that Goop Kitchen arrives on the East Coast. For five years, since it opened in LA in 2021, people like me who are swayed by gluten-, refined-sugar-, peanut-, corn-, and seed-oil-free food had to get their Huberman’s Organic Turkey Chili on trips to Southern California. Now our time has come. And I got to be the first person in New York to try it out. The Brentwood Chinese Chicken Salad, I’m embarrassed to admit, made me cry. First, a little history: The name Goop is derived from Gwyneth Paltrow’s initials. She gained fame in the ’90s as an actor, won an Oscar, and dated Brad Pitt and later Coldplay’s Chris Martin, whom she married. By the early aughts, she was a new mom living in London and at an inflection point in her life. She started a newsletter called Goop that included things like her recipe for vegan banana pancakes. Goop showed that Paltrow was more than …

Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen, London, review: TGI Fridays (at twice the price)

Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen, London, review: TGI Fridays (at twice the price)

Ramsay, never knowingly promo shy, barely seems to have done publicity for this place. Has he even been here? But fair enough, after his recent Michelin push, Ramsay does TGI Fridays is hardly the best look. Perhaps it is an intended cash cow, a 250-cover canteen meant to offset any losses elsewhere in the company. It certainly costs: a cheap night out this is not. Of the eight mains, six are north of £40, with the signature beef Wellington at £65 (the next day I lunch at Chelsea’s upmarket NoFifty Cheyne, £59 to share). Sides include a £22 lobster tail. Cocktails are mostly £17; the wine list’s opening gambit is champagne from £105-a-bottle, with just three still wines under £50. Wines they pour at speed and in large portions, edging you towards a second bottle. It is easy to resent this sort of avarice encouragement. Ramsay’s Savoy Grill costs about the same for a similar menu, only at the Grill there is a sense of history and far fewer bandanas. Oh, and I’ve never eaten …

Tempo Prepared Meal Subscription Review (2026): Surprisingly Tasty

Tempo Prepared Meal Subscription Review (2026): Surprisingly Tasty

If you have eating restrictions, you’ll likely see even more repetition. My colleague Kat Merck, who tested GLP-1-appropriate meals—and also stated a preference for no fish—found herself drowning in a sea of chicken on the six meals she tried. She found the portions appropriate to those on GLP-1 meds, and appreciated that the meals offered her the proteins she needs to maintain muscle mass even while chemically un-hungry. But still: chicken. After eating five of her six meals, she wrote, “I don’t think I had one I didn’t end up liking, but they were absolutely repetitive. Chicken chicken chicken chicken.” The sixth meal she ate, a mushroom cream chicken, was the only utter failure. The chicken tasted different from the chicken in other dishes either of us tried, she noted: thick, dry, slathered in viscous cream with no sign of the advertised mushrooms. It was a little sad, a reminder of TV dinners past. But if anything, that failed meal cast into relief just how surprisingly well-managed most of the proteins turned out to be. …

Best Smart Smoke Detector (and Why You Still Need a Dumb One)

Best Smart Smoke Detector (and Why You Still Need a Dumb One)

Adding Wi-Fi doesn’t always turn out to be as smart as it sounds. A smart smoke detector turns out to be dumber than I thought, even with Wi-Fi added. Smart smoke detectors will let you know if a fire breaks out when you aren’t home, but other than that they don’t offer any extra benefits over a “dumb” model. And these devices introduce a problem: Most smart smoke detectors exclude one of two sensors to alert you about a fire. Every smart model I tested had only a photoelectric sensor, which picks up smoldering fires, while ionization sensors that pick up fast-burning fires were left behind. Ionization sensors are more likely to have nuisance alarms go off (while you’re cooking, for example), but it’s still a sensor you should have somewhere in your home, especially since modern building materials have shortened your window of time to escape a home fire. It’s not to say smart smoke detectors are useless, since what matters most is having a working smoke detector at all. A photoelectric-only smoke detector …

Maradona’s childhood home becomes soup kitchen for those in need | Football News

Published On 14 Apr 202614 Apr 2026 The late Argentinian football legend’s childhood home has been converted into a soup kitchen serving those affected by President Javier Milei’s austerity measures. At 523 Amazor street in Fiorito, a Buenos Aires suburb where the “Golden Boy” experienced extreme poverty growing up, locals can now receive meals and clothing assistance. This neighbourhood of about 50,000 residents living in modest brick homes features numerous murals commemorating the career of the iconic number 10, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 60. As a criminal negligence trial begins on Tuesday against the seven-member medical team responsible for Maradona’s final care following brain surgery, his childhood community continues his legacy of compassion. Neighbours visit “Diego’s house” carrying containers that volunteers fill with chicken stew and other meals prepared in large cauldrons in the yard, while cumbia music – Maradona’s preferred genre – plays in the background. “Diego would say there is a lot of hunger and we have to help, because the need is so great,” explained Diego Gavilan, …

The 4 Best Water Filter Pitchers (2026): PFAS, Microplastics

The 4 Best Water Filter Pitchers (2026): PFAS, Microplastics

This does not amount to an antimicrobial certification, hence Lifestraw’s caution to market the device for anything but municipal water. But if my primary worry were the bacteria or mold known to potentially accumulate in other water filters and pitchers, I would certainly spring for this Lifestraw. The same IAPMO India lab data also shows good removal of PFAS and PFOA “forever chemicals,” though not quite to the levels of my top filter picks. This doesn’t mean the filter is perfect. The Home’s tall dual-stage filter, comprising both a membrane filter and a replaceable activated carbon filter, causes the 10-cup Lifestraw to be quite lofty for a fridge pitcher: about 13 inches tall. It only fits in my refrigerator because I’d already removed a shelf to allow for tall bottles and meal kit boxes. The Lifestraw filter is also among the slowest I’ve tested, requiring more than 20 minutes to filter on the 10-cup pitcher. And while it removes free chlorine, it does not remove chloramine—a more stable disinfectant found in about half of municipal …

There’s a Secret Ingredient to Making Luxury Ice at Home

There’s a Secret Ingredient to Making Luxury Ice at Home

If you don’t want to bother with cutting your own cubes, then Klaris has you covered. Klaris has labored to make a kitchen countertop version of the classic Clinebell machine, and we loved it. Trouble is, it costs a hard-to-swallow $550. Now, however, the company has created a new, cheaper version called the Klaris Mini, which retails at a much more palatable $300. The small 8 x 8 x 8-inch box produces two ultra-clear, 2-inch cubes at a time, which can then be stored away in your freezer if you’re stocking up before a party. Nice Ice Now, these methods effectively banish those pesky bubbles, but what about replicating that glacial purity in your homegrown luxury ice? It turns out there are three solutions here, and all are easily attainable at home—the last one remarkably so. “Glacial ice is quite pure because it comes from rainwater,” Salzmann says, adding that the way to get cleaner water at home is to remove the ionic impurities (dissolved inorganic salts, minerals, and metals that carry a positive or …

The 3 Best Mug Warmers of 2026: Better Than the Ember Mug?

The 3 Best Mug Warmers of 2026: Better Than the Ember Mug?

A lot of these travel mugs tend to take the form of a sippy cup. But when sitting at home, my ideal pick is the Fellow Carter, which sips like a normal drinking vessel and is stainless steel—not plastic. It’s ceramic-lined on its interior to avoid coffee-oil buildup or any hint of metallic tang. If you like sippy cups, Fellow also offers a nice 3-in-1 lid system ($57) with straw and slider lids. What I tend to do is drop a four-cup batch of coffee into the Carter, and screw the lid off and on when I take a sip. Sixteen ounces of coffee can stay warm for hours without introducing a lot of oxidation or heat. The coffee in a thermal-insulated drinking container tends to taste better, longer, than any coffee that’s been subjected to the heat and air of a coffee warmer. This said, while the Carter is prettier than most travel mugs, it’s never going to be my favorite mug (which, for the record, is a Grinderman tour mug from 2010.) The …
