Jonah Hill Teases New Kristen Wiig Comedy ‘Cut Off’ as Pure Stupidity

Jonah Hill Teases New Kristen Wiig Comedy ‘Cut Off’ as Pure Stupidity

Jonah Hill may not have made it to the CinemaCon main stage during Warner Bros. studio presentation to promote his upcoming film, Cut Off, but the comedy vet didn’t miss a chance to tease it while under the lights at SmartLess Live on Saturday. “Next one is pure stupidity,” Hill told SmartLess hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes of the film, due in theaters July 17. It comes on the heels of his Apple TV original Outcome starring Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz and Matt Bomer. Asked to elaborate and share the concept, Hill said this: “It’s dumb. I’m about to go on a run of just the dumbest shit you’ve ever seen in your entire life. I hope you left your brains at home. It’s called Cut Off and Kristen Wiig and I play two dumb ass heirs, rich kids in their mid-40s who get cut off by their rich parents, played by Bette Midler and Nathan Lane. It is like Step Brothers, Clueless and Trading Places. Classic comedy. It’s so great, and …

Bridesmaids: Behind-The-Scenes Facts You Probably Never Knew

Bridesmaids: Behind-The-Scenes Facts You Probably Never Knew

This time 15 years ago, some sceptics were seriously still carrying on that tiresome debate about whether a female-led comedy would actually be funny when Bridesmaids arrived on the scene. Naysayers were more than proven wrong when the comedy came out, and not only made audiences around the world howl with laughter, but became producer Judd Apatow’s highest-grossing film, taking more than £220 million at the box office. Viewers immediately fell in love with Kristen Wiig’s Annie, a maid of honour who is helping her best friend Lillian, played Maya Rudolph, prepare for her wedding, while also trying to keep a group of unruly bridesmaids (the incomparable Rose Byrne, Melissa McCarthy, Wendi McLendon-Covey and Ellie Kemper) in check. But it wasn’t just the audiences that were won over by the tale of enduring female friendship (and bodily functions). Bridesmaids was also nominated for the Best Musical Or Comedy prize at the Golden Globes, and even earned two Oscar nods, for Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo’s writing and Melissa McCarthy’s performance. To mark the movie’s 15th …

‘Bridesmaids’ Star Wendi McClendon-Covey Explains Oscars Absence

‘Bridesmaids’ Star Wendi McClendon-Covey Explains Oscars Absence

Wendi McClendon-Covey was quick to clear up why she didn’t join her Bridesmaids co-stars for the onstage reunion at the Oscars Sunday night. The 15th anniversary of Paul Feig’s hit 2011 comedy was celebrated by Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Rose Byrne, Maya Rudolph, and Ellie Kemper as they presented two awards at the Dolby Theater: original score and sound, which went to Ludwig Goransson for Sinners, and F1, respectively. Of course, the women had a little fun before the Oscars were announced — each of them was handed a note and claimed it was signed by A-list audience members like Leonardo DiCaprio or Stellan Skarsgard, remarking on their good looks and critiquing the length of the bit. Fans were quick to notice McClendon-Covey, who played Rita in Bridesmaids, hadn’t joined them. She posted on Instagram after the show in “response to some of the dms [sic] I’m getting.” “I had a neck lift last week because I’m tired of looking like a melting candle,” wrote the actress, also known for roles in St. Denis Medical and The …

We are not good with numbers, but we figured it out backstage. That means we shot this movie in 1883.” The tongue-in-cheek humour continued as Ellie began introducing the nominees, only for the group to be interrupted by supposed …

Bridesmaids Food Poisoning Scene Not in Original Script

Bridesmaids Food Poisoning Scene Not in Original Script

It’s hard to imagine the 2011 film Bridesmaids without the iconic food poisoning scene. During a recent video interview with Vanity Fair, Kristen Wiig reunited with her former co-star Rose Byrne and looked back on the Oscar-nominated film, directed by Paul Feig. At one point, the Saturday Night Live alum admitted that the infamous scene wasn’t part of the movie’s original script. “That was a sequence that came later in the writing process that we sort of embraced and like, OK, we’ll write our version of this type of thing,” Wiig explained. “We just kind of made it our own. We don’t want to see any vomit [but] you can find a way to do your version of it.” “It was so fun to do that scene and to see … everyone’s version of not feeling well and trying to hide it. It was fun to watch the ladies do their thing,” she added. The particular scene in question saw the friend group suffer from sudden food poisoning while trying on expensive wedding dresses after …

Rose Byrne and Kristen Wiig Toast to ‘Bridesmaids’, Friendship, and Launching Themselves Into Space

Rose Byrne and Kristen Wiig Toast to ‘Bridesmaids’, Friendship, and Launching Themselves Into Space

For If I Had Legs I’d Kick You and Palm Royale, you both have created such singular characters. How different are they each from you in real life? Wiig: She’s a little more delusional than I am. She’s much more ambitious than I am, also. I feel like we’re pretty different. I will say a similarity: I do have a belief that everything works out, and it is supposed to work out the way it’s supposed to work out. She doesn’t take no for an answer—and I do! Obviously, she’s just a little more scheming in a way, but she’s well intentioned, which I guess I am. Byrne: I am pretty different. She’s very, very different from me. The character is incredibly hostile, Linda, and she comes from a place of hostility throughout the film, because she’s under such stress and trauma. Whereas my default is not hostility if I’m under stress or trauma. It is a different thing. I go overboard in another way, but not like that. So that was hard, because it’s …

Laura Dern and Carol Burnett on the Inspiration Behind That Emotional Palm Royale Twist

Laura Dern and Carol Burnett on the Inspiration Behind That Emotional Palm Royale Twist

So began a decades-long friendship that entered a new phase when they were both cast in Palm Royale, which premiered in March 2024. Set in 1969 Palm Beach, the Apple TV series follows Kristen Wiig’s Maxine Dellacorte-Simmons, a spry social climber eager to infiltrate high society. Dern, an executive producer on the series, who also plays feminist activist Linda Shaw, had one person in mind for the role of Norma Dellacorte, the flask-toting matriarch who rules the area’s social scene. “I had a mission to get as close to Carol as possible,” Dern says, “and if I had to produce a show to make it happen, I was going to do it.” The first season earned Burnett an Emmy nomination for outstanding supporting actress—and a group of new female industry friends, including her costars Allison Janney and Leslie Bibb. “What’s wonderful is, at my age now, I’ve got new young girlfriends,” Burnett laughs. “But with Laura, it’s really a deep love. I do feel that it’s kind of like a mother-daughter thing. Not even kind …
