How Kendrick Lamar Producer Mustard Cooks Up Hits TV Off, Not Like Us

How Kendrick Lamar Producer Mustard Cooks Up Hits TV Off, Not Like Us

A year ago, Mustard stood at the epicenter of a pop culture maelstrom. The producer, 33, backed Kendrick Lamar at the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, where his irresistible beats — particularly on “Not Like Us,” Lamar’s anti-Drake diss track megahit (to the tune of 1.8 billion Spotify streams) — became the head-bobbing soundtrack for the entire planet. The lowkey DJ with the bright yellow nickname is still riding the wave. Mustard added another Grammy to his collection on Sunday, his sixth, winning best rap song for “TV Off,” another infectious Lamar collaboration. He toasted the win on Grammy weekend with Patrón, one of several brands that have hopped on the Mustard bandwagon. (Another, not surprisingly, is Heinz Mustard). Mustard feted the tequila brand by creating an entire song out of the sound of a bottle uncorking. But The Hollywood Reporter managed to pull him away from the Grammy-week chaos long to enough to talk about where his name and tag came from, how he approaches about performance and preparation, and why trusting your ear …

2026 Grammy Nominations: Could Lady Gaga or Kendrick Lamar Win Album of the Year?

Nearly three months have passed since the Recording Academy released the Grammy nominations for 2026. Now music’s biggest night has arrived, and stars across Los Angeles are getting ready for what promises to be an unpredictable ceremony. At the 68th annual Grammy Awards, the competition for the top prizes is fierce, and so far it’s unclear who is most likely to take home the biggest haul of golden gramophone statuettes. Leading the pack is Kendrick Lamar, who picked up nine Grammy nominations. Last year he walked away with record of the year and song of the year (which is awarded to a song’s writers) for the combative and irresistible hit “Not Like Us.” Now his album GNX is up for album of the year, and its smooth SZA collaboration “Luther” is up for both record and song of the year. His main competition for the biggest awards is Bad Bunny, whose Debí Tirar Más Fotos (“I Should Have Taken More Photos”) topped streaming charts, and Lady Gaga, whose song “Abracadabra” crowned critics’ year-end lists in …

Abracadabra! The nominees for the 68th Grammy Awards are in. After sweeping last year’s Grammys with his explosive diss track, Kendrick Lamar led the 2026 pack with nine nominations.
