Texas Pacific Land Crashes After Largest Shareholder Dies

Texas Pacific Land Crashes After Largest Shareholder Dies

Land-and-royalty company Texas Pacific Land Corp. crashed the most since early Covid after the head of its largest shareholder unexpectedly died.  Bloomberg reports that Murray Stahl, CEO of Horizon Kinetics and a TPL board member, died on Thursday, sending shares spiraling lower by 17% in late-afternoon trading. This marked the largest intraday decline in the stock since early 2020. Stahl was described as a longtime believer in TPL, one of the largest private landowners in Texas, with most of its acreage concentrated in the oil-rich Permian Basin of West Texas. TPL generates revenue by owning land, collecting oil and gas royalties from activity on that land, and selling or managing water-related services tied to drilling and production. “His firm, Horizon Kinetics, along with its predecessors, had been TPL’s largest shareholder for many decades. Murray believed in the Company when it was still a thinly-traded, little-known trust that simply owned some land in west Texas,” TPL CEO Ty Glover wrote in a press release.  Bloomberg data show that Horizon Kinetics is TPL’s largest shareholder, owning 10.3 …

Largest UK solar farm approved to power 180,000 homes

Largest UK solar farm approved to power 180,000 homes

The UK Government has signed off plans for what will become the largest UK solar farm, marking a significant step in the country’s transition toward cheaper and more secure energy. The approved development, known as Springwell Solar Farm, will be built in North Kesteven, Lincolnshire, combining large-scale solar generation with battery storage and grid infrastructure. With a planned capacity of 800 megawatts, the project is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 180,000 homes annually – roughly half of Lincolnshire’s households. That makes it the most powerful solar installation ever approved in Britain. The approval follows a string of UK investments in solar power, including the recent greenlight for the nationwide rollout of plug-in solar panels. A milestone in the UK’s clean energy rollout The decision also represents a broader acceleration in renewable energy deployment. Springwell becomes the 25th nationally significant clean energy project approved since July 2024, contributing to a pipeline capable of supplying electricity equivalent to more than 12.5 million homes. Officials have framed the approval as part of a wider …

The UK’s largest solar farm just got the green light

The UK’s largest solar farm just got the green light

Image: Springwell Solar Farm The UK just approved what will become its largest solar farm yet – and it’s a clear signal of where its energy strategy is headed. The British government has signed off on the 800-megawatt (MW) Springwell Solar Farm in North Kesteven, in England’s East Midlands. To put Springwell’s size in perspective, the US’s largest operational solar farm is the 875 MW Edwards & Sanborn Solar + Energy Storage project in California. Once Springwell comes online in 2029, it’s expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 180,000 homes a year – roughly half the homes in Lincolnshire. It’s being developed by EDF Power Solutions Limited and Luminous Energy, and is expected to have a 40-year lifespan. The approval comes as the UK leans harder into domestic renewables amid global instability. Ongoing conflicts such as the wars in Ukraine and Iran have reinforced how volatile fossil fuel markets are, and how much countries like the UK depend on energy they don’t control. Cafeyn finalises Readly merger to become ‘largest buyer of publishing content in Europe’

The Readly app displayed on a tablet. Picture: Readly French all-you-can-read platform Cafeyn has finalised its acquisition of Readly’s non-Nordic businesses, meaning it is now running the platform in the UK. The deal saw Cafeyn buy Readly’s operations in the UK, Germany, Switzerland and Australia from Bonnier. It has taken the group to combined revenues of nearly €100m (around £87m). Some 350,000 Readly users have been added to the Cafeyn group, taking it to a total of more than 2.5 million users who can access 5,200 publications from 1,100 publishers. Users in this non-Nordic group will continue to see Readly branding. Press Gazette previously reported that the merger will see increased investment for publishers and an enhanced mobile app. Chief executive Laurent Kayser told Press Gazette said that the merger means more money to publishers through increased scale. “We will be the largest group in Europe buying content from publishers,” he said, adding that as more publishers join the platform “the more [revenue] we distribute to publishers”. This revenue is “pure margin”, he said. “The …

Israel hits Iran’s largest petrochemical complex after Trump threat

Israel hits Iran’s largest petrochemical complex after Trump threat

In recent days, Israel has targeted key industrial sectors as part of the ongoing military campaign against Iran. On Friday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israeli strikes had destroyed around 70 per cent of Iran’s steel production capacity, significantly undermining Tehran’s ability to manufacture weapons. Steel is a strategically important material used in industrial and military production, including for missiles, drones and ships. Katz said he and Netanyahu had ordered the military “to continue striking with full force Iran’s national infrastructure”. Iran has also targeted industrial sites in Israel, including a refinery in the northern city of Haifa. A DEAL? While the violence continued to spiral, reports surfaced of a potential push to halt the fighting. Citing US, Israeli and regional sources, US news website Axios said a deal mediated by Pakistan, Egypt and Turkey for a 45-day ceasefire to allow for negotiations on a more permanent peace was under discussion. The White House said Trump has yet to approve any draft deal to end fighting, following media reports on the ceasefire proposal. A …

VinFast prepares to enter the world’s largest motorcycle market

Vietnamese EV maker VinFast is setting its sights on a major new frontier: India’s massive two-wheeler market. After already laying groundwork for its electric car business in the country, the company is now preparing to launch a lineup of electric scooters as part of a broader push into India’s fast-growing EV sector. VinFast has confirmed that it plans to bring three of its existing electric scooters – the Evo, Feliz, and Viper – to India, marking its initial entry into the segment. These models are already sold in Vietnam and will be adapted for Indian riding conditions and usage patterns. Early units are expected to arrive as completely knocked down (CKD) kits assembled locally at VinFast’s plant in Tamil Nadu, with longer-term plans pointing toward deeper localization and full-scale manufacturing, according to local media. The scooters themselves span a range of performance and use cases. The Evo is positioned as a lightweight urban commuter with a modest 2.25 kW hub motor, dual 2.4 kWh battery packs, and a top speed of around 70 km/h (43 …

America’s Largest Hospital System Ready to Start Replacing Radiologists With AI, Its CEO Says

America’s Largest Hospital System Ready to Start Replacing Radiologists With AI, Its CEO Says

Sign up to see the future, today Can’t-miss innovations from the bleeding edge of science and tech Just weeks after the largest nurses strike in the New York City history, the CEO of NYC Health and Hospitals has a bold vision for a future where AI, not human radiologists, examines and diagnoses X-rays. At a panel held by Crain’s New York Business, Mitchell Katz, president and CEO of New York’s 11-hospital public benefit corporation, made overt gestures at his desire to replace highly trained radiology experts with visual language AI models, Radiology Business reported. “We could replace a great deal of radiologists with AI at this moment, if we are ready to do the regulatory challenge,” Katz said at the panel. One example he gave, according to Radiology, would affect women’s healthcare in particular, by automating breast cancer screening with AI tools. By sidelining radiologists until an AI system flags a reading as abnormal, Katz declared, hospitals could achieve “major savings.” Mohammed Suhail, a radiologist at North Coast Imaging in San Diego, told Radiology that …

Trump Proposes .5 Trillion In War Spending, ‘Largest In Decades’

Trump Proposes $1.5 Trillion In War Spending, ‘Largest In Decades’

Via The Cradle US President Donald Trump is asking Congress to boost military spending to $1.5 trillion for 2027, the largest such request in decades, while demanding cuts to domestic spending on social programs, AP reported Friday. The White House released details of the desired spending increase on Friday as part of Trump’s 2027 budget proposal. The proposal comes amid the US-Israeli war on Iran, which is costing US taxpayers over $11 billon for each week it continues. US Army/AP image Last month, the Pentagon proposed receiving an additional $200 billion to backfill munitions and supplies used in the war, which has killed 3,527 Iranians, including 1,606 civilians and at least 244 children. While the White House is demanding huge sums for war, Trump’s proposal would reduce non-defense spending by 10 percent, primarily by shifting some responsibility for social programs to state and local governments. “We’re fighting wars. We can’t take care of day care,” Trump said at a private White House event on Wednesday. “It’s not possible for us to take care of day care, Medicaid, Medicare – …

Foreigners Commit Nearly Half Of All Rapes In Austria, Syrians Largest Foreign Group Of Suspects

Foreigners Commit Nearly Half Of All Rapes In Austria, Syrians Largest Foreign Group Of Suspects

Via Remix News, The number of rape suspects in Austria has more than doubled since 2015, with foreign nationals — and Syrians in particular — driving a disproportionate share of the increase. In addition, foreigners nare now responsible for nearly half of all rapes, a major increase from 2015 as well. The figures, provided by Austria’s Interior Ministry in response to a request by Austrian newspaper exxpress, paint a striking picture of a decade-long trend. The composition of those suspects has shifted markedly. In 2015, 250 of the 688 suspects were foreign nationals — 36.3 percent of the total. By 2025, that number had risen to 538, representing 46.9 percent of all suspects, despite foreign nationals making up only 20.5 percent of Austria’s population. Reported rapes under section 201 of the Austrian criminal code rose from 826 cases in 2015 to 1,359 in 2024 — an increase of roughly 64.5 percent. The number of suspects rose in parallel, from 688 to 1,196. Preliminary figures for 2025 show a slight decline to 1,147 suspects, but that still …

US Firm Takes Control Of One Of The “World’s Largest” Cobalt Producers

US Firm Takes Control Of One Of The “World’s Largest” Cobalt Producers

An American company has secured control of one of the largest cobalt producers outside Chinese ownership, delivering a strategic boost to U.S. efforts to compete with Beijing over critical minerals, according to the Wall Street Journal. The buyer, Virtus Minerals, completed its acquisition of Congo-based Chemaf for $30 million, along with a pledge to invest roughly $720 million. The deal caps a years-long push, spanning both the Biden and Trump administrations, to ensure U.S. access to cobalt resources in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Chemaf’s mines can supply about 5% of global cobalt output—a key material used in fighter jets, smartphones, and electric vehicle batteries. Virtus says future production will be directed toward American and allied buyers. Despite its value, Chemaf proved difficult to sell. U.S. companies were wary of its heavy debt—around $1 billion—along with reputational concerns and the challenges of operating in Congo, including weak infrastructure, corruption risks, and labor issues. The company has a controversial history. Its Mutoshi mine has faced repeated problems with unsafe working conditions and incursions by informal miners. …
