Washing machines ‘sparkle’ and ‘smell fresh’ if you add 2 cheap items

Washing machines ‘sparkle’ and ‘smell fresh’ if you add 2 cheap items

People say the two-item hack makes their machine smell great (stock image) (Image: Getty) A homeowner has impressed thousands with her straightforward washing-machine-cleaning trick that requires only two items. Lifestyle blogger Kerry, known on TikTok as Kerriemariehome, shared her “quick and easy” technique, which costs ‘very little’. The video commences with Kerry holding two halves of a lemon, onto which she squeezes a dollop of toothpaste. She then tosses them into the washing machine and initiates a rinse cycle. “I know what you’re thinking, but hear me out,” she states in the clip. “For a quick and easy washing machine clean, just cut a lemon in half, add toothpaste, and throw it into your washing machine to eliminate odours and leave your washing machine absolutely sparkling.” In the caption, Kerry added: “Does your washing machine smell? Use this quick hack – toss lemon halves into your empty washer and run the washer on speed wash with very hot water. After the cycle is finished, you have a fresh-smelling washer – and for very little cost.” …

Taylor Frankie Paul’s dirty laundry is our reality check

Taylor Frankie Paul’s dirty laundry is our reality check

Devoted viewers of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” have seen the 2023 video that ended Taylor Frankie Paul’s journey on “The Bachelorette” before it began – part of it, anyway. The police body cam footage of her arrest serves as the “Mormon Wives” premiere’s cliffhanger. Until Thursday, that is the extent of what most “Mormon Wives” viewers know about what Paul calls “the worst night of my life” without saying why. The second episode picks up one year later, showing Paul pregnant with the child of Dakota Mortensen, her boyfriend at the time and the other adult involved in the incident that got her arrested. “It has been a challenge going from the scandal to relationship to miscarriage to arrest to being pregnant again,” she says as a sentimental melody lilts in the background. From there, any open questions about that night were quickly set aside to focus on the baby drama. Yes, she was charged with aggravated assault and sentenced to 36 months’ probation, she explains, but the revelation that she and Mortensen …

The best washer-dryers for a two-in-one solution to laundry

The best washer-dryers for a two-in-one solution to laundry

A washer-dryer seems the perfect space-saving alternative to buying separate washing machines and tumble dryers, and is usually more affordable. Still, you don’t want to get stuck with a subpar combo, which could run up high electricity costs and leave clothes damp after the drying cycle. If this is the case, you may want to buy a cheap-to-run heated clothes airer. Washer-dryers can cost anywhere from £350 to more than £2,000 but for most people, you’ll still be making a saving compared to buying separate machines. The two main types of washer-dryers are freestanding and integrated, which are fairly self-explanatory, but you can read more about what to look for in a washer-dryer in the FAQs section below. Freestanding washer-dryers tend to be more popular, which is why I’ve focused on them for this guide. I’ve also asked experts for advice and their own recommendations of specific washer-dryers. The best washer-dryers: At a glance How to choose a washer-dryer Choosing the best size and capacity for your home are key when buying a washer-dryer. “It’s …

Toss Your Not-Quite-Clean Clothes on Simone Giertz’s Laundry Chair

Toss Your Not-Quite-Clean Clothes on Simone Giertz’s Laundry Chair

Do you have a shirt or a pair of pants that are not quite clean but also not quite stinky enough to put in the hamper yet? You’ve probably just thrown them on that one chair, right? You know, the chair in your bedroom or living room that seems to have spent more of its life holding a pile of clothes than being a usable seat. This is the seemingly universal shared experience that inventor and YouTube star Simone Giertz wanted to solve. To do that, she built a Laundry Chair, meant to hold laundry and function as a chair at the same time. No more compromises. “You can pin it to my reluctance for behavioral change,” Giertz says. “This was one of those projects where I was like, I can’t believe this isn’t already a thing.” Courtesy of Yetch Studio After making a video of building the chair more than a year ago, Giertz is turning it into a real product you can buy. It started as a Kickstarter campaign—launched today, and is already …

This easy automation reminds me when my laundry is done

This easy automation reminds me when my laundry is done

Laundry is never fun. While tossing clothes into the washing machine is simple, the sorting beforehand, fluffing before transferring to a dryer (or hanging up to dry), then folding and putting away, can be a full day’s work for bigger households (and bigger wardrobes!) Add a busy schedule to the mix and I can’t be the only person who has tossed a load into the washing machine only to get caught up with other tasks and forgotten about it. Having to re-run the cycle wastes not only time and electricity but also money. That’s why I use a simple automation with my washer and dryer. This prompts me when it’s time to transfer clothes to the dryer or to ask someone else to do it if I’m not at home. Or it will remind me to take the clothes out of the dryer before they become wrinkled. Full disclosure: this automation, leveraging features of the ThinQ app from LG, only works with washers and dryers from that brand. But many other appliance manufacturers have similar …

A boy does laundry near the Siem Reap River. Macy Castañeda-Lee hide caption toggle caption Macy Castañeda-Lee In early February, Macy Castañeda Lee took a motorbike ride along the Siem Reap River out to the large green swaths of rice and lotus fields that pepper the outskirts of the Cambodian city. Miles from the city center, they stumbled across a booming industry that filled the streets, homes and riverside. “There was laundry everywhere,” remembers Castañeda Lee, a Filipino photographer who was in Siem Reap for the Angkor Photo Festival and Workshop. “Visually, it was very striking.” Camera in hand, Castañeda Lee started documenting the varied loads of laundry, and in the process learned what laundry means to the community: “Laundry is a symbol for Cambodian and Khmer people of their economic and health standards.” Invisible workers A new photo series from Filipino photographer Macy Castañeda Lee showcases the beauty in the mundane task of doing laundry and the role it plays in the rural Siem Reap economy. I watched LG’s new home robot CLOiD do laundry but I have questions

CES is always chock-full of robots, and this year electronics giant LG announced a new bot, dubbed CLOiD, that it claims will revolutionize household chores (as in, you won’t have to do them anymore). CLOiD is described as an AI-powered home robot, designed to assist its user with a wide variety of domestic tasks — from folding laundry to making breakfast to patrolling a home for signs of trouble. The company says that, eventually, it envisions the device “evolving into an ambient-care agent that supports everyday life.” The bot was announced during LG’s keynote earlier this week, but it was also available for inspection via rolling presentations on the convention room floor. I went to check one out, where I saw the bot, alongside a human presenter, performing a variety of tasks for an enthusiastic audience. CLOiD has autonomous movement, so it can get around by itself, and comes equipped with a variety of cameras and sensors that, when paired with LG’s smart home ThinQ app, can leverage situational and environmental data to make proactive suggestions for …

LG Brought a Robot That Cooks, Folds Laundry and Empties the Dishwasher to CES

Robots that cook and fold laundry have largely remained in the concept/startup phase, with no shortage of highly produced viral videos of humanoid bots making stir-fry or folding laundry in controlled environments; however, the tide may be shifting.  LG, one of the best-known home appliance brands, is set to unveil its first-ever multitasking autonomous home robot, CLOiD, at CES 2026. The launch could mark a major turning point, with blue-chip home appliance brands now feeling compelled to enter the fast-emerging multifunctional home robot market. LG’s home robot with laundry, cooking and dishwasher-emptying skills could mark a major turning point in home robotics.  LG According to the brand, ClOiD is an AI-powered home robot that purports to do far more than vacuum, mop pick up socks. While existing home robots are engineered to perform tasks such as floor cleaning, pool and lawn care, LG’s unique offering utilizes AI and vision-based technology to automate more complex household tasks, such as “retrieving milk from the fridge, placing a croissant in the oven for breakfast and folding and stacking garments after laundering.” Over …
