‘That Is Not True’: Victoria Derbyshire Slaps Down Tucker Carlson’s UK Free Speech Claim

Victoria Derbyshire and Tucker Carslon BBC Victoria Derbyshire has slapped down Tucker Carlson after he claimed it was “not legal” in the UK to criticise Israel. The right-wing podcaster made the bizarre allegation as he admitted Britain has “been shafted” by Donald Trump’s administration. He had earlier accused the US president of being “a slave” to Israel over the Iran war. Carlson, a former close ally of Trump, made his comments during an appearance on BBC 1′s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg programme. He said: “It is illegal, it is a crime for which you can be arrested in Britain right now criticising Israel. “If you say you’re for Palestine Action you can be arrested, a lot of people have been arrested, so in other words it is not legal in Britain to criticise another country.” Derbyshire interrupted to tell him: “That is not true.” Carlson replied: “I’m sorry, what is not true about that? Have people not been arrested in Britain for criticising Israel? They certainly have been. There’s video tape of it.” But Derbyshire …

Laura Kuenssberg Confronts Iranian Ambassador Over Protester Killings

Laura Kuenssberg has confronted a senior Iranian officials over his government’s killing of thousands of protesters. Up to 36,500 civilians are estimated to have been murdered by the regime following by ordinary people an uprising in January. On the BBC this morning, Kuenssberg asked Seyed Ali Mousavi, Iran’s ambassador to the UK, how he could justify his government’s brutality towards its own people. She said: “Since we last spoke, your government has killed thousands of its own people in the streets who had the courage to stand up to protest against the suffering that they have been experiencing at the hands of the regime. “Thousands of people were killed. How on earth do you justify that, ambassador?” Ali Mousavi admitted Iran “has our own problems”, which he blamed on western sanctions imposed on the country. And he insisted all Iranians were now united following the military action launched on the country by America and Israel. He said: “Our people are in a very painful and sensitive period of time, but they are supporting the government …

Peter Mandelson Stops Short Of Apologising For Epstein Friendship

Peter Mandelson Stops Short Of Apologising For Epstein Friendship

Lord Peter Mandelson has refused to apologise for his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, insisting he is “not culpable”. The former ambassador to the US was sacked in September after unearthed emails found Mandelson had told Epstein “your friends stay with you and love you” even as he was facing child underage sex charges in 2008. Their friendship was already public knowledge prior to Mandelson’s appointment as ambassador last year, but these emails offered up new information, according to the government, which meant the ambassador lost his job. In his first interview since being fired, Mandelson told the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg that he wanted to apologise for the “system” which did not listen to Epstein’s victims sooner. He said: “I want to apologise to those women for a system that refused to hear their voices and did not give them the protection they were entitled to expect.” But when presenter Kuenssberg asked if he would apologise for his association with Epstein after his conviction, Mandelson said: “That system gave him protection …

The Labour tribes shaping Britain’s Brexit reset – POLITICO

To Starmer’s left, backbench rebels including Richard Burgon and Dawn Butler backed the push toward a customs union by the opposition Lib Dems. The members of the left-wing Socialist Campaign Group frame their argument around fears Labour will lose voters to other progressive parties, namely the Lib Dems, Greens and SNP, if they fail to show adequate bonds with Europe. Some other, more centrist MPs fear similar. Labour MPs with a military background or in military-heavy seats also want the U.K. and EU to cooperate further. London MP Calvin Bailey, who spent more than two decades in the Royal Air Force, endorsed closer security relations between Britain and France through greater intelligence sharing and possibly permanent infrastructure. Alex Baker, whose Aldershot constituency is known as the home of the British Army, backed British involvement in a global Defense, Security and Resilience Bank, arguing it could be key to a U.K.-EU Defence and Security Pact. The government opted against joining such a scheme.   Parliamentarians keen for young people to bag more traveling rights were buoyed by …

Keir Starmer Rejects Claim Elections Are Vote On Government

Keir Starmer has brushed off concerns he could face a leadership challenge after the May local elections. The prime minister has overseen a nosedive in his personal ratings while Labour has also taken a beating in the polls over the last 18 months amid economic stagnation and a multitude of policy U-turns. Speculation he could be kicked out of office if his party suffers in the forthcoming elections in Scotland, Wales and England in May has been rife. However, Starmer told the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg these local elections are not a “referendum on the Westminster government.” Starmer said: “I was elected in 2024 with a five-year mandate to change the country, and that’s what I intend to do , to be faithful to that mandate. “And I will be judged and I know I’ll be judged, when we get to the next election, on whether I’ve delivered on the key things that matter most to people.” Kuenssberg asked: “Are there any circumstances under which, if there was a leadership challenge to you, after …
